I just got back from the doctor and thought I'd try the chat - tried to log in and got "unknown error" - have no idea how it works???
Chris

Chris, it is the space in your name. I had the same problem. I had to create a new DIS account with a name without spaces just for chat.

OK....

SO BIP has set a new DIS repo record.... I count 24 multiquotes. Anyone wanna say I am wrong about her takin' the cake for now?
Wow. I had no idea that many. I wasn't even trying- I was just way behind and that's how many I'd clicked to reply to later... by the time I'd caught up and could post!

BIP is the Babe Ruth of multi-quotes.:cool1:

Aye, that I am (I guess)

Bettcha thought I forgot.... ;)

This one is in honor of nuthin' it's a random Pirate Joke...

pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
Where did the Pirate learn to draw his sword?
pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
At the ARRRRT Institute!
pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:

Didn't do any reading yeasterday, and didn't have time today. I'm scaird to see how far behind I am. Oh yes, all the way back there on page 2396! :faint:

But wait! It's an opportunity! Perhaps I can beat BIPs record for the number of multi quotes in a single post.... :rolleyes1

I'd do the summaries, but I'm hooked on everyone's stories of their first Disney experience. How fun has that been?

Anyway, DH is back from his 3 day trip and I got better things to do tonight...

Catcha later! Maybe.

Gosh -the fingers are faster than the brain (oooops - did I just say that?) anyway, apparently I have been given the go ahead to buy a DVC membership now the ? is - what is the average points used that would make a good starting off point?

It seems that with a credit discount and other options I might be able to get a good price on points if I read the discussion right. Also, I can buy in lots of 100 as opposed to the regular 150 usually sold. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Any one and any 2 cents would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Anbody want to guess where I'm going tomorrow?

That's right -

I'm going to Disneyland!

Ok here goes - what would you suggest would be a good amt of points to start with? We are a family of 5 but the older 2 are probably going to fly the coop withing the year or next. (21 and 20) with a 14 yo still. As we used to take large family vacations, not sure what to do - would 200 or 300 be too much?

Although you can start with 100 or 150, the # you need is more in the 200 range. Once you start you will likely increase your points. The value is truly realized after about 5 years.

That's exactly what I thought on the cruise we took in October. And to think I'll get to experience that again in, oh 17 1/2 months with another toddler.

(These are the pages I did for my Circle Journal album from that wonderful experience.)

I think that really depends on your travel habits. Things to consider are:
  • Is there a particular time of year that you need to travel?
  • Will you be using your points every year - or is once every two or three years often enough?
  • What sort of accomodations do you believe you will need?
  • Do you need to be able to reserve 11 months out, or will 7 get the job done?
Once you have a handle on those answers then it becomes a whole lot easier. We started out with 150 pts in 1999. when the boys hit school and going during January and October wasn't an option any longer. We added on a second contract to bring the total to 282. (Same home resort, same use year - why make things complicated?) That's enough for a 2-BD during the low and "off" season. Fortunately, school doesn't start until after Labor Day, and all the "summer camps" around here end in mid-august. So, we're pretty tied to family vacations the last two weeks of August. (Handy that, for this cruise.) Which tied nicely to the "off" season at the WDW resorts. So, 282 seems to be working for us.

We still don't go every year. Used up two years worth of points on DCL last year. (Will rent those points instead of using them on DCL from now on.) Took a week in Vegas on an exchange one year too. With a trip to WDW and a cruise in 2006, 10 days at WDW in 2007, and this cruise in 2008 - we'll probably be Disney'd out for a year or two after that. (Blasphomy! Make her walk the plank!) So, we'll probably do more with exchanges for a little bit. Or just bank them and invite a whole bunch of friends along on the next trip. The flexibility is nice.

have fun at Disneyland!!

Curious about that comment - is it because the prices go up higher? Really havent attended the talk yet so not sure how it could be applied. Just wondering, had a friend sign up and his base resort is Saratoga Springs and he's buying some more points when AK lodges opens up. Sounds like more Disney plans on getting your $ but hey - I keep going back for more.

COOL - I won't make you walk the plank if you don't tell anyone - LOL - thanks - I think that 300 might be a good starting point as I'm used to inviting everyone and sometimes tight quarters make for a mutiny party! :dance3: Anyway, I'm getting excited now - thank you!

Hope you have a great time!

I would look at the point charts and see the amount needed for how you want to vacation, time of year, size of room and buy that many. If you are ever short in a year, you can always rent pretty easily. We started out with about 300 and have done 2 add ons.

I'm still just reading this seperate POV on your story... http://web.mit.edu/dryfoo/Masonry/Essays/meridian.html however... I was moved by your recanting of the story.... things like this often "break me up" as I've always been one to not hide my emotions well...

Thank you for sharing ....

This passage from the end of the article I googled may be of interest ...

Crash this is so amazing. I thought I had seen everything written about this, but I don't think I ever saw this article. It really brings the emotions back! Thanks for finding this.

The cost per point goes up. But the number of points you will need for a particular stay normally wont. If you add the number of points in a column this total can not change, but they can change individually. As far as I know DVC has done this 1 time and it was in the early years at OKW. They said that they had the off-season to low and adjusted it.

Also you MF will increase every year.

I found more but didn't want to hog the bandwidth with stuff. Besdies, what I posted seemed the most pertinent and direct.

I am glad my posting didn't trigger anything inappropriate or undesired in feelings. I had a slight concern on that - the fear of the unknown...

I am playing ketchup again. I really prefer mustard!!!!:dance3:

I did manage to see Zodiac at the movies. For all you detective fans it was really good. :thumbsup2 Not much vilence but lots of crime solving.:rolleyes1

Going back to see the 600 posts I missed again.:headache:

If I do not get through all of them:surfweb: , have a nice evening.:goodvibes

Gee - thank you - I think oh, I've got the hang of the computer world - then reality strikes again!! However, I'm so stubborn I'll just keep plodding along until I get it - takes me soooo long though sometimes - but w/help - such as yours - I get closer to what -oh - what a 6th (?4th?) graders can do!!!!LOL:dance3:
