Just trying to catch up a bit .. .sorry I've been out of pocket for so long . . . too much work . . . got three new website clients in the past two weeks. It's a good problem to have.

I am working on our website. The site is done. Just adding the list from the old site. I know a bunch of folks were working on the links for each of our ports of call. If you're one of those, would you please PM me? If I can get your data, we can add that this weekend as well.

Maybe by Monday we can have an official rolling out party (you know champagne bottles hitting the ship . . .er . . .website . . .something like that . . .)

Still dreaming about the cruise. . .can't wait . . .

I'm impressed that you know about cow tipping . . . it is an amazing experience (but requires large amounts of achohol to even attempt) . . . Best advantage to go to a rural college . . the good frats were out in the sheep and cow pastures . .. LOL

By the way, I think fly tipping in British terms has something to do with dumping your garbage, but I'm not sure . . .

Ignoring the inner boxes, it's 1-squared + 2-squared + 3-squared + 4-squared for the main box. (You are counting the 4x4's (1) + the 3x3's (4) + the 2x2's (9) + the 1x1's (16)) so that is 30.

Then for the inner boxes, it's 1-squared + 2-squared (or 5) times two.

30 + 5 + 5 = 40.

That's my final answer.

Although there still aren't any squares.

I think this is where you were going with this.

The easiest way to do a problem with squares, looking at the larger sqaures only in this problem, is to take the sum of the squares (not squares we see, but a square of a number, i.e. 2 squared is 4).

You can apply this to any sized square then. You take the number of squares in each direction and square it. Take one less and square that. So on down to 1.

Take a checker board. It has eight rows of eight squares. Therefore you would take 8 squared or 64. Add on 7 squared or 49. You do this down to 1 squared which is 1.

The answer for the checker board would be 204.

For the problem given today, you would treat each section separate, taking out the two smaller squares of 4.
