Your secret revealed about the disney dining plan

We bought 2 mugs for our party of 4 (2 adults, 2 children). In the mornings I would take my shower and get dressed, then while the others were getting ready I would run down to the foodcourt and get one mug full of (black) coffee and the other full of juice. When I got back to the room my hubby and I split the coffee into 2 cups, which when we added milk, really did make 2 complete cups of coffee! The kids split the juice, and each of us had a donut (from the whole box I got for one snack credit), and that was breakfast. At night after we returned to the hotel my husband would run down and do the same thing again, but get decaf instead of regular coffee. The mugs cost $11.99 each I believe, so for our 6 day trip, we got 4 cups of coffee and 4 cups of juice for $4 a day![/QUOTE]

This sounds like a great idea! So, are milk and juice for the kids available to fill the mugs? There are more choices than just coffee and soda? (We will be staying at the Poly.)

My fil once requested that I serve seafood on my family lunch buffet holiday dinner. Being on a limited income in those days it was difficult but I complied. He was first in line for the food and naturally he picked up the tray with all the seafood and took it to his seat at the table. As awful as it was at the time it was worth the expense just for all the times I have told this story the past couple of decades. :lmao:

One time I was having a small dinner party for a friend so I didn't know most of the people. After every one had gone through the line the last guy took folded up aluminum foil from his inside jacket pocket & put the remaining stuffed chicken breasts in it. When I asked him what he was doing he said, "Gleaning." He walked them to his car & then came back & ate his meal & socialized.

As for the chocolate house someone mentioned earlier on, I make edible sugar art & I love when people eat it. It's just going to get thrown away anyhow as it's illegal to reserve it.

Not sure about an uncut pineapple, however:rotfl2: . Man I wish I'd seen that. When my Grandma was alive she used to dump all the sweetner packets into her purse whenever we were at a restaurant, and if she thought no one was looking the tables around us too!:sad2:

estherhead, sounds as if we might have some relatives in common. :rotfl2:

I take elderly friends out to eat often and invariably they will tuck a few cookies or a roll, wrapped in a napkin, in their purse. At first I cringed but then got to thinking about how very little they are able to eat and since no one has ever confronted us (thankfully) I have become resigned to the behavior. :)

My husband, who is totally shameless, once went to a nearby church for their Easter Brunch and when I asked him why he came back so soon he replied "It was time for the services so I left". :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

If you ever made something edible in chocolate I might become shameless too. :cheer2:

An answer to Jill Schwartz---milk and juice usually are not included in the refillable mugs. You can fill them with coffee, hot chocolate, sodas, tea, and lemonade. At the Poly, they do have small containers of milk and juice for purchase at Captain Cook's.

My grandmother used to take a purse full of plastic baggies to dinner when we went out to an all-you-can-eat seafood place! She used to stuff her purse full! :sad2:

I alway wondered what her bag smelled like the next day! :scared1:

Many of us were tempted to avoid using snack credits for bottled water. Save the credits for more expensive items. You get dessert with your CS meal (lunch) and with your TS meal (dinner). Most days I didn't want an extra ice cream.

I used my extra snack credits for food for the trip home but it makes sense to make sure you use your snack credits during your stay. Use them for breakfast items or for drinks..

We had the DDP on our last trip for the 1st time and I was soo worried about running out of snack credits that I hardly used any. We ended up having so many credits left over that we could've used the snack credits to eat breakfasts. We brought our own snacks too so we used those a lot instead of snack credits. Next time I know and don't have to bring as many snacks.

We found that most days we were too full for dinner if we ate a late lunch. What worked best for us was having lunch around 11:15 or 11:30. Not only did it help us be ready for dinner but also allowed us to beat the lunch rush.

Also, we found that we weren't using our snack credits during the day because we were full from lunch and dinner. So we would use our snack credits to get something from the bakery for breakfast, which was more than enough to hold us over for our early lunch.

Yup, this is the best suggestion. Snack credits for a light breakfast (bagel, muffin, coffee, fruit, drink).

I was just looking over the confirmed snack credits list and noticed that in MGM, one can get coffees/cappacinos, etc. at the Writer's Stop. That could be a very good tip for those seeking a java jolt. However, can anyone confirm that their coffees actually taste good? I know most places around WDW, you can't get a good cup o' joe!

We had coffee here and the coffee lovers all loved it. They have ginormous cookies too that were good too.

The only thing I was disappointed with was we could hardly use our snack credits in Epcots World Showcase. A lot of the good snacks were independent vendors that didn't participate in the DDP. :sad2: Although we did buy caramel apples in Germany with our Snack credit.

I bought a whole bag of Chip-N-Dale pretzels to take home for DS's pre-k class. Also, I bought a bag for the room. Only 1 SC per bag.

Also, the fruit bowls were good to keep in the room fridge.

WE went in April 2006, but at the time the ABC Commissary had a great CS breakfast. You could get an adult breakfast platter, with coffee AND a bowl of cereal with a milk for 1 CS credit. Anyone been there lately? If they still do this it's a great place for breakfast.

That's great info! I'm always looking for something good to send back to DS's class and 1 snack credit makes it an awesome deal!

How do you make sure they use a Snack credit at a Counter Service?

My DW purchased (Cash) a bunch of bundles of Mickey and Pooh Lolipops for my DD pre-school class as souvenirs.

On our last day, we had several snacks left and surprised to find out that you could get those as a snack too.

I am pretty sure that this has been said before but I will say it again, if you have your mugs and you do a counter service at your resort, make sure you get a bottle of water or something else. WE did this and since we had 4 people we got 3 bottles of water and a bottle of apple juice for my 2 year old so I didn't need to buy much water or juice since we were drinking from our mugs.

How do you make sure they use a Snack credit at a Counter Service?

Most things it will be clear by what you're purchasing, but when we stopped at Main St Bakery for a snack, we got a container with 2 Krispy Kreme donuts and a chocolate muffin. When we got to the cashier, she asked if we were using a CS credit (would have been the two items plus a drink) or snack credits. We already had water, so I just used 2 snack credits. Then I made sure to check the receipt afterwards. If you're concerned, you can just ask them "can I get this with X snack/CS credits?" They're happy to help you figure it out.

Can you use your snack credits for the fudge in the MK Bakery?? (If you can I'm in BIG trouble!! LOL)

We saved all our snack credits for the food and wine festival. We sampled food from every country. That was our dinner for the evening, it was great.

When we were in Disney last August, My DH and DS were able to use snack credits to get fudge. I think they got 2 pieces each.

My BIL was THE Pineapple Thief! Unfortunately he isnt on the DIS and doesnt have email or I would give it to him!! LOL That's funny!

After reading this entire thread, it is clear to me that I am on a different level of eating than most of you folks.

I read here about getting a box of donuts and eating them for breakfast all week. Well, how big of a box of donuts are we talking about? Donuts at my household don't last a week. Most of the time they don't survive a whole day. I can get a dozen on a Saturday morning and they will most likely be gone by Saturday afternoon. Lol and we are not talking about a family of 5. We are talking about me and my wife. She will have maybe 2 donuts and I will destroy the rest.:thumbsup2

Then I read about a family of 4 sharing a CS chicken strip basket. Again, there is no chance of that for me and my wife. If we go to the grocery store and buy a frozen lasagna that is supposed to serve 4 people, you can pretty much gaurantee that we will eat it all. I mean it is just 2 pieces per person.

I love food and drink. It is one of my passions and is also the reason that I always need to be on a diet. Trying to lose another 20 pounds before our July trip.:bitelip:

I agree for the most part- besides, it's vacation and my boyfriend and I don't share one meal on a regular basis, why do it at disney? Even if it's going to be way too much food, we order what we want, eat what we want, and take it home to his mom who will eat it for the next three days :rotfl:

Hay I live ALONE and I don't think a box of donuts would survive 2-3 days either. I know most other snacks/treats dont :rotfl2: (I clearly try not to buy donuts!)

Definitely looking forward to our trip with the ddp but I've already factored in an extra $100 for breakfasts (Kona Cafe, WCC, food court...)

eeyore45, hubby and I found that you can actually put bottles of alcohol in your checked bagage. normally we drive, but when we fly, you are allowed quite a bit of alcohol in your baggage. so we bring a bottle of whiskey, a bottle of rum, a bottle of vodka, then we buy the mugs. the frozen cokes at POP work very well with the rum,. a FANCY DRINK!! at just the price of a the same thing at the gin mill dowm the street from your house!
