Wk of Jan. 20th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Morning all!! I got 3.3 miles in XC skiing yesterday. I then did my core and dynamic strength training for another 20 minutes. I am beginning to hate the plank. It was 20 and pretty brisk but the trails were pristine and the skiing was awesome! And, yes, I was wearing my balaclava just in case anyone cares. ;)

Mel: I would have to side on the weekly thread as I can find my place where I left off the day before pretty easily and even though some days it takes longer to catch up than others, it is usually well worth it. I find this thread (and many others too) very informative and agree that sometimes I have found a topic that gets forgotten about in the following week and have to bring it back up again in order to fulfill my curiosity. :surfweb: So, mark me a vote in the "weekly" column!!

Everyone is doing soooo well with their post-marathon workouts!! Keep up the good work. Also, those of you starting out/continuing your "pre" marathong workouts (come on, you know you want to!!!) keep on keeping on!

Oh, and Kung Fu Panda, I LOVE BILLY JACK!! I watched ALL of his movies when I was younger!!! Ah, my hero....

Morning all! Gonna get some kind of workout in this afternoon. Hopefully around 4 miles on the dreadmill.

Angie--if there isn't a WISH shirt order by Minnie--I would be glad to let you borrow my tank. It's a size small. I won't be using it that weekend:sad1: so you're more than welcome to it! And I have the Garmin 205, and for the most part love it. Sometimes I have trouble getting it to synch up (and the one horrible run where it started counting backward:eek: ), but other than that, no complaints!

Okay, off to work! Have a great day all!

Mel, I would love to get in on ANY WISH shirt order! :) Being a newbie, I don't have any WISH gear yet except the wonderful backpackss which are awesome and very generous!!! So, I'd be up for tech and/or cotton. I'd also be up for socks! So easy to please!:lmao:

Count me in for any WISH gear! You are the best, Mel!

RaceReady is working up a quote for us. They've said they may be able to cut some of the vneck shirts in lime. The lime crewneck and singlets are stock items and easily done. I'll update when I have more info.

We're also changing things around a bit with the team listing. There will be a separate thread that Lily stickies that has the team list and will allow folks to post a bio and photos if they'd like (thanks to Matt for the great idea). The team listing will move to the new thread and I'll update as always, just won't open the weekly thread with it, unless y'all still want it there as well.

Count me in for the vneck! Thanks for all your work!!:thumbsup2

Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a nationwide special showing of a movie about marathoning tomorrow the 24th at 7:30pm. It's called the Spirit of the Marathon and it will be interviews with some elite runners, but also some "penguins" like myself!

Quick drive-by:

Howard: I'm sorry your 2 miles hurt so much- I ran 1 mile yesterday with my IT band thumping and called it quits. I don't want to go to a doctor yet, because I know it's getting better. By better, I mean I can finally walk without limping! It's getting very frustrating. To sum it up, I share your pain.

Helen: on the pain front, you win. You know, the WISH team has members all over the place- maybe you need to find out your toe-stomping guy's address so one of us can be sent on a mission to do a little stomping on your behalf...

Angie- I have a med tank you can borrow (it probably will be really big on you though). I have a Garmin 301. I sometimes use the heart monitor- it usually shows my heart rate is much slower than my perceived exertion- so maybe I'm cheating on my workouts?! I had a Nike+ but it was way off-- it was perfect in 5ks (maybe off by a few seconds), but told me my LRs were a good 1-2 minutes faster than my Garmin said. And yes, that was somewhat crushing, along with the realization that my LRs were probably shorter than I thought...

OK, really have to work now!

I'm a newbie here and signed up for my first official walk/run, The Minnie. I'm a little nervous about it, but reading through these threads gave helped me make the decision.
I'm definitely in for a Wish Shirt if an order is made.

My training consists of wogging (more walking than jogging) 2-4 miles 4 to 5 days a week and a variety of different classes (weight training, step, aerobics, intervals) at a local fitness center. I'm not fast, but hopefully with Minnie coming up, I'll be able to pick up the pace a little bit.

SamSam, we still have openings for more players on the miles team if you are interested. It will begin on Feb 1st and run till Dec 31st.

Hi guys! I've been such a slacker since we got back from WDW!!! My first 5K went very well--as in I finished it!!! Yay me!

I have not signed up yet...but... are you ready...I'm training for the Minnie 15K!!! ack! :scared1: I cannot believe this! But, here I go! My plan is going to be to establish my base, then do an 8 week training leading up to the 15K. Something similar to Hal Higdon's 15K training plan. We are also doing the 5K too. Maybe for this one I can be as fast a Big Vic! :goodvibes

Oh, I may be a little behind, but thought I would pass this along...

I know a lot of you guys workout w/ ipods, mp3s... You may have already found these sites, but I came across a few site where you can buy CDs or download in MP3 format, workout/gym type music. It gives you the BPM (Beats per minute), which I read in a related article, should/could coinside w/ you heartrate. They have Yoga/Pilates Music around 90 beats per minute and then ranging up to the 140s/150s BPM for jogging/running... They play continuously without breaks between songs (I think--at least I read they do on IPODs) and the beat is consistent which will definately help me keep my pace when running. I've found this to be difficult when I create my own playlists.

Here are the two sites...
workoutmusic.com
powermusic.com

I found it interstering and will probably order/download a few for myself.

I promise to try to keep up w/ this thread starting next week! You guys just move sooooo fast!

It is sold out near us. It would have been hard to get there anyway. It is playing again in February I think DH said... He also told me if you go to the website you can sign up to be notified by email when it comes out on DVD.

OK I NEED HELP/ADVICE

With all the races we have done our training is still very archaic and I am ready to move it to the next level. I WANT A GARMIN!!!

Until now we have plotted out different routes by the car odometer, which leaves us very limited as to where we can run :( and then if we time we just use watch. I am done with that, especially if we are training for full this year. That way of training makes it hard to do tempo runs, speedwork etc.

Anyway my request is I need any and all advice on which ones you guys have and what you do and do not like about them. I am going to be honest between buying new shoes, signing up for MINNIE, getting hotel for MINNIE, etc I don't want to spend a ton. I want one that will tell me how far I went and how quickly I'm running, that's really all I need.

SO fire away and tell me what you guys think :confused3

angie

Angie,
Thought you should know, there is an entire conversation about the Garmins
on the Wish discussion board. I was going to lead you to it, but can't find it (I just posted on it, too!). Anyway, I want one, too, and they are talking about a sale at Amazon, no shipping, and there are WISH green accents on the band (201 model). Good Luck!!

Re: the thread discussion. I'm okay with whatever the majority feels. I admit, the fast-moving thread & discussions can be overwhelming at first, but you're a welcoming group. I'll just follow the posts, treating them like mile markers. Speaking of welcome, welcome to everyone who's new!

Angie, like Jeff and Jen, I have Nike+ (saving up for/earning that Garmin), and I like it, especially that it syncs with my music. Like Jen said, it seems a bit off. I wore it for both the 1/2 and full. It was near spot-on for the 1/2 & off by about 1/4 mile in the full. I don't wear it with Nike shoes (use the Nathan pouch) and I haven't synced it to my stride, so I don't know how much those things make a difference. On the plus side, the Nike+ is inexpensive (as I already had a nano), easy to use, and it made a difference in my training.

Re: the marathon movie, I just bought 3 tix for me DW and a triathlete friend of mine to see it at the Santa Rosa mall in Fort Walton Beach, any of you panhandler types headed that way as well? Anne? Vic?

Angie - we both have the Garmin 201 and really like it. I've looked at the newer, smaller models, but honestly I think I like the bigger screen to see my numbers while running.

Mel - I also vote for weekely threads for all the reasons you stated. And thank you for keeping up with posting the new threads every week for years!

Matt
- we are going to the marathon movie tomorrow night, but in MA. ;)

I forgot to tell you guys....when I was at Target yesterday getting my new scripts, I bought the 5 green cowbells they had left! Gotta get ready for next year, right?

Greetings all -

No training as Wed are rest days for me. Instead, in true corporate form, I spent most of my day - and I'm not kidding - in meetings to prepare for a meeting on Thursday which is a prep-meeting for a meeting on Friday which is about a meeting on Tuesday!

Kristi - Oh no! I'm so sorry! I hope you are enjoying your day in bed anyway. Come on, get better! You have to start training next week for the Minnie! :yay: More cowbell!

Speaking of cowbells, I'd like to thank Anne, Kathy and Carrie for giving Charlie and I some. I tied them all together with a lime green shoelace from Lily and they are all now in my suitcase ready for May! On the trip home, when we took my suitcase out of the car, I heard this noise coming from it and I said "Oh no, something broke." But no, it was cowbells!

Mel - I kinda like the weekly format. I too think it will die down after a while. But under no circumstances do I want to scare Matt away! :teeth:

Howard - Sounds like you need a massage.... :rolleyes1

Helen - I think I'm headed down the same toenail road. I lost one on the other foot right after the Minnie last year. Now that one is all grown in, I'm going to lose one on the other foot. Geez. Guess my ugly dogs won't be seeing the light of day any time soon. On a more pleasant note, it was great to finally meet you! :yay: It was fun waiting for the race to start, while you were having your three course meal. And I was glad I got to see you one last time at AKL. Got any plans to come next January?

Dave - Oh Dave! That's so cool! What are you teaching?

Very sad about Heath Ledger...I liked him a lot. :sad1:

Shirts- I *should*be able to get our traditional shirts, in wicking material or cotton, by Minnie. However, we are at teh mercy of the shirt companies when it comes timing on getting the new ones done. Mel will let you know more on that when she gets info back. Stayed tuned.

More on shirts - Please don't post to or PM Mel or myself about wanting a shirt or putting you on a list now. We will put threads out when we have more info and let you knwo the best way to contact us with your information. It's just too much to track to get info before we have our own tracking methods set up. Thanks!

Can I mention that having your slowest amrathon is not as bad as it seems? For teh first tiem ever, I did not want to die durign my first post-marthon run. Did 3 miles on Saturday adn teh world has sabbotaged my work outs since. Hope to get 30 min in tonight.

Nah. I'll wait until it comes out on video.
