Ice Wine: I am not much of a wine drinker (I prefer Coke:rotfl2: ), but Dh nejoys it and has learned a lot during our monthly wine and cheese nights wit hour German and French friends. So here is what he tells me about Ice Wine (other than he LOVES:love: it):

Ice wine is made by leaving the grapes on living vines as winter sets in. As the grapes freeze they begin to dehydrate. Lots of liquid is gone but the sugars do not evaporate. Thus, what liquid remains in the grapes is very concentrated and sweet. As the grapes are now very small and shriveled it takes substantially more to press a bottle and some may be lost in the freezing process so the price sky rockets. The result is a very sweet dessert wine. DH says it goes excellent with the soufle at Palos. DH also notes that he makes this soufflee (true) and if you bring the ice wine he will make the souffle:lmao: Cheaper "psuedo ice wines" are made after the grapes have been thorugh one frost and are less sweet or have an added sweetener.

Danke, Hadley! That's a much better explanation than I could have come up with. My best was going to be, "More sugar content than normal, and the wine makings (grapes, or muscadines in my case) are supposed to be harvested after it gets cold." :rotfl: Your DH's explanation helps me understand the price difference on that stuff! :thumbsup2 It was $21/bottle for the muscadine ice wine. *yeouch* Oh, but it was gooooood! :thumbsup2

Oh, and DH just thought it -wrong- that I put the rest of the bottle of wine in a leftover baby bottle. I wasn't going to fool with the cork any more--my wine now has a screw top cap! :lmao:

*chuckle* Have a great day, everyone!

My only comment about ice wine is that it is so sweet you could pour it on pancakes!;)

Just kidding, sort of. I had a tiny glass of it at F&W and it was large enough! I shared it with my husband who has a huge sweet tooth and is not a fan of wine. He loved it!:lmao:

A baby bottle?!!?!:lmao: DH has one of those special thingies (very techinical term I know) that sucks the air out of the open bottle and tops it. The Europeans laugh at him for ever having an open bottle that is not finished:rotfl: but he is on his own (other than a few small sips from me). Hmm, this morning Dave was saying a decent ice wine will run $50 or more per small bottle, so sounds like you got a steal:upsidedow He is normally not a wine snob (loves Two Buck Chuck--which is Three bucks in Mass. and not available in NH), but I guess ice wine is really fabulous?!?!

:rotfl: Well, it was a Colorado wine, being sold at the liquor store in the Sam's Club! It was a small bottle (what's the term for half the normal 3 glass size?) that I can see being used for a bud vase now.

Oh oh oh!!! Talking about my new "bud vase"... So I mentioned to DH about it just fitting a single rose, and he quoted Blazing Saddles! *blink blink blink*

Lili Von Shtupp: A wed wose, how womantic.

Complete with the accent! :lmao:

So, to complete your morning, here's a link to the "memorable quotes" for Blazing Saddles, one of my family's favorite movies! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/quotes

:lmao:

ETA: Oops, some of those quotes are not as clean as the AMC version! Sorry about that!

Fun clips! I have actaully never seen Blazin Saddles. Perhaps I should add it to the queue.

Oh yeah, the little bottles. Dave was trying to make me put in this morning that almsot all ice wine comes in the smaller bottels only. He was thinking someone may want to try it now and not know what to look for:rotfl:

Oh, and it might also be labelled "Eist Wein."

I recommend watching Blazing Saddles with someone else who "gets" the jokes first. It's like Monty Python--it is funnier watching someone doing Monty Python, than watching Python yourself. YMMV.

Mom had to explain a LOT of the plays on racial jokes to me. *sigh* I just didn't get the sarcasm watching the quick repartee as a teen.

Oh, and DH -loves- Mongo. I love Bart and Jim... Jim only a -little- more. Those two actors worked well together.

zweihund... For your notes... Colorado muscat ice wine is -yummy!-

DH and I have been jonesing for ice wine, so we splurged and got a bottle. I started feeling all the tense muscles easing immediately after a 1/2 glass... :rotfl: Did I mention Fiona has become the Princess of NO! :headache:

Kimberly, I think it would be a good match for your strawberries, but remember, I'm such a wine snob I tend to buy wine in boxes because it keeps better... :snooty:

:rotfl:

Mmmmmmmm.....Ice Wine.........*Homer Simpson drooling*

Been meaning to ask if any of our Double Dippers scrapbook?

If so would anyone be interester in doing a swap we could actually swap on board LOL Live and in person. Or maybe do a circle journal or both? If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. It would be a great way for us to start getting our scrapbooks ready before the cruise for all those great pics im sure we will be snapping up!

Mememememe! Though, I still have yet to finish my book from the cruise before last.....I put the photos in, and never printed up my journalling. Making pages ahead of time sounds like a fine idea, I might actually finish one!

Beautiful! How was the giant slide? I have two friends going on Celebrity (the ones who were on the first Transatlantic - those who were there might remember a really tall guy with one arm? And his tiny girlfriend? That's them!) in March to try it out. She's worried it won't live up to DCL.

njdrumrun - Great pictures! My favorite was the "eat the momma!!!" baby picture. It always cracks me up when babies do that!

Kris, I've looked through your slideshow a couple of times. I love some of the captions, and the picture of you, Josh, and Rachel watching the flag raising is absolutely priceless, imo! I love that one!

Josh is such a little man with that full head of hair. TOO cute! Rachel is just beautiful as well. Although it wasn't a "Disney vacation", I'm sure it was enjoyable to be with friends. :)

Thanks for sharing!!

Hello, Michelle!! I'm glad you found us!! How terribly exciting that this is everyone's first cruise! :goodvibes

I'm glad you found the website! As you mentioned, our thread has quite a busy bunch of chatters! Just hop right on in!

It looks like you already found the famous Post 577 as I see you got your email out to me! Thanks for that! See...you're on top of things already! There will be several other infants on the cruise with us, so you'll probably see some familar faces at Flounders!

Looking forward to getting to know you!

I know several of you have been chatting about staying at Ron Jon before the cruise. In case you missed this on the main forum, I thought I would bring it over here. Might be worth a try to inquire.

For any of those sailing soon and still looking for a hotel near port, I just got an email from the Ron Jon resort offering a Limited number of Studios at $70 per night and 1-bedroom units at $90 per night! Not a bad deal for a night or two before or after. It didn’t give any real specifics and just said to call the number that can be found on their site under the rental section to see what is open. Hopefully someone can land a good deal :thumbsup2

Kimberly- Wow, that is a great price for a 1 bedroom at Ron Jon. We have a 1 bedroom reserved and we did not get it for anywhere near $90! I will call them tomorrow and see if we can get a better deal! :sad2:
