pet peeves

I have two major pet peeves.

#1 - Smokers who smoke in non designated areas. I'm with you, I have asthma and it impacts my day. Even with no health issues, it's still a peeve of mine.

#2 - families saving tables at CS resturants while someone gets the food. can't say that i agree on this one. the seating at CS is for Disney guests. guess what, everyone at Disney is a guest. I have yet to see a sign that requires food to be in hand prior to planting butt on the seat. I don't know of any fast food places that require that, McD's, BK, etc... But i guess what you are saying is that if every last seat were taken and all the people had food in hand you wouldn't be frustrated because they had the food?QUOTE]

See I see the 2nd secenario as completely different. What I am saying is that when it busy and the tables are full some people with food, some people just sitting there while thier party has just gotten in line and know it will be a while before thier food is there but they save the table anyway and watch as people look for a place to eat.

Just try explaining to your kid why there are three tables around you with people just sitting there and she has to eat while sitting on the ground. If the tables are full of people eating food it is easier to understand but waiting for food? not the same at all. At least this is my opinion.

Trust me - I get that everyone is there as a Disney guest. After encoutering this behavior a few times I learned quickly to eat at off times so I could avoid this. Does it ruin my vacation - no way. Is it annoying - you bet!

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I know we are in the minority, but I am with you.
DS (then 8) and I sat on the wall of the little flower bed inside the courtyard of El Pirata Y el Perico right beside a family who ran past us to grab the table we were heading for. They had no food, just sat there waiting for their food while we ate on the wall. Wow, now I feel lucky to have had that wall. I wonder what it is that these people are telling themselves while they sit there at a table with no food while families are eating on the floor. I really think it must be something like..."wow thank goodness we snagged this table or that could have been us!!!" :sad2: Dog eat dog!!! The only other major problem we had was the one I mentioned earlier involving the yelling, cussing family who were saving multiple tables! So most of the time ds and I do actually get to eat at a table without incident, but still..........people can be so inconsiderate.

People who have not been in our situation will not understand. Which is why we are in the minority!! I am sorry about that family being so rude and using such language around you and your DS.

regardless of age, everyone needs proper hydration and sun protection. obviously the little ones even more so. we took our DS at age 7mo. in July. It was hot as H and crowded. We were very conscious of sun exposure, hydration, ventilation. We encountered no issues and don't feel that we were bad parents for it. for that matter, i've seen plenty of people over the age of 18mo not taking care of themselves with regards to exposure.

I took my one mos old one trip and she was by far the easist one out of my family to care for. She was in a sling that I wore the entire trip. She was just so easy.

the only things that really bother me are the people that cannot seem to understand what "no flash photography" means and the people who make their way up to the front for parades at the last minute.

I agree it's rude to watch someone struggle and not offer help, helping is called being courteous. Things like lend a helping hand, or a seat on the bus, etc..

But with regards to tables at CS. I just totally disagree (can we agree to disagree?). There are no posted rules about seating in the public areas. There are no signs stating you can only be seated if you have food in hand, that's just ridiculous. Are people allowed to use the restrooms at CS locations if they are not eating there? Or grab napkins from the condiments counter to clean a mess even though they didn't buy food? Furthermore, if someone is saving a seat for the one ordering food for their party, they are using it as a patron of that restaurant and most definitely are entitled. Why is your right to sit any more important than their right to sit down. All parties have equal right to public seating.

The exception would be ADA seating, that most definitely is for people needing ADA accessibility and is marked as such. You and everyone else have just as much right to have a member of the party grab a seat while someone orders. If you choose not to, then that is your choice.

Personally I don't even think using a table at a CS and not ordering food is inappropriate. If so, then I suppose sitting on a park bench in Tomorrow Land at Magic Kingdom but eating a hot dog from Casey's is inappropriate? Afterall, it is not a bench dedicated to Casey's and therefore should be only for guests of Tommorrowland...I could be wrong, but Disney does not restrict public seating to patrons with food in hand. There are no rules saying "if it's crowded, give up your seat for people with food in hand"

As far as explaining to my kid that all the tables are full? It's just that, the tables are all full and that's life. We find another spot to sit as nearby as possible and enjoy the atmosphere and scenery there. But then again we must be breaking rules because shouldn't we be eating at the place we bought our food otherwise we are taking a seat from someone else?

Then again, maybe it's me. I don't let line jumpers bother me. It's just not worth it to me. It is such a small segment of the guests who do it that it's not worth raising my blood pressure over when the fact is, an extra person or two cutting me isn't really going to impact my wait time that much. Why should i let it impact my enjoyment?

I have been in the situation (I'm also a single mom), but I agree with the others.

When my son was too young to leave at a table while I ordered, I made sure not to eat during peak times. As he got older, we started to split up.

Since my family is small, I'm always willing to share our table with others during peak times.

ooh, such a bad mom!:lmao:

we have crammed in as many trips as we could with the kids young, before we have to pay airfare and park passes for them. Free is a good thing!

I know, I know lol Believe me, I have heard all about it..how bad it is to have taken her so young. If she were my first, no way. lol With my first, I barely even left my house for 3 months for fear of germs and all that. By the third...I was way mellow.

And yes. That trip I think I only had to pay for one child. Yeah, my oldest was 4 so we had to pay for her. But my 2yo and the 1 mos old were free. I bought a seat for my 2yo but not for the 1 mos old going down. When they made me take her out of her sling during take off, I knew I made a mistake. I bought her a seat for the return trip to put her carseat/carrier in. It just felt safer.

But yeah, free admission was nice while it lasted. OH and being able to put the 5 of us in a value was really nice too. Ahhhh...good times.

I certainly see your point and pretty much agree with it. However, I just think that I would rather be offended by someone acting on the side of caution than to live through a living hell of having my child abducted and no one who witnessed it having questioned what happened. I would get over my parenting ego and be glad someone actually cared enough to be concerned over a fellow citizen.

I think you are taking me a little to seriously! :goodvibes

Ofcourse we can agree to disagree. The thread asked for pet peeves and that one is mine. I know I am in the minority on that one.

I also know that a meal eaten on the ground at WDW is better than a meal at home for both my dd and I! :cool1:

Also I wouldn't consider having to eat a meal sitting on the ground a struggle per say.. there are so many more serious issues people have to deal with on a daily basis even while they are WDW.

yay, i guess this mean's that we aren't mortal enemies:banana:

no prob with it being your peeve, just not one of mine.

i think i am most impressed with the fact that YOU were up to Disney just one month after giving birth. that's impressive.

I completely agree with the above posters. I find the notion that all members of a party (including small children, kids with special needs or the elderly) should be required to put in their time on the line merely so that the people behind them will believe that they've "earned" their photo with Mickey to be completely absurd, and overly judgmental to boot.

If 4 people are going to take their pic with Mickey ahead of Judgy McLinewaiter, it matters not a whit in terms of actual time to Ms. Judgy if all 4 stand on the line or if one designee does, as long as everyone rejoins the line before their turn is called. 4 people don't develop an ability to pose for a photograph faster due to their time served on a line.

And I see absolutely no point in forcing a 2 year old, or an autistic 12 year old, or an elderly grandparent to stand in a shadeless confined space for 40 minutes or more simply to appeal to some random McLinewaiter's arbitrary sense of line-standing justice.

And I think the pious little group that prevented the bathroom-emergency teenager from riding ToT completely suck. Though I'm sure they felt very proud of themselves for putting the poor kid in his "place" that day.

:sad2:

Thank you! I have 2 autistic sons and sometimes it is near impossible to get them to stand in line. It's nice to hear that there are some understanding people out there in the world. It makes us feel a little less lonely during those difficult times..

I don't have a problaem with "line-waiters". You never know what the situation was. Maybe a kid was going to pee his pants if he didn't go to the bathroom? Maybe somebody forgot their camera back in the stroller? Maybe other party members were late meeting up? You never know what people's situations are. All these things have happened to me in the past and I got the dirtiest looks from people. Am I really expected to go to the end of the line? Seems like this issue gets really blown out of proportion. How does this even cause more of a line delay? WHat's the difference if there are 3 people in the party ahead of you or 5? They're still ahead of you either way. I just don't get it:confused: .

My only pet peeve at WDW seems to be when my kids act like complete crazy people. But that is really my pet peeve anywhere! They're embarrassing sometimes. They always seem to be the only kids on the bus screaming, or the only kids at the restaurant spilling stuff everywhere, or the only kids at the bus stop running around like they're on crack! I try to not blow my stack, but after a few days, I want to tie them to a tree stump:headache: .

:rotfl2: :goodvibes :rotfl2:

If only I could witness other people's kids acting as bad as mine, maybe I would feel better! But it never happens. All I ever see are these little angels sitting on benches or on the bus quietly and politely!

I don't have a problem letting A person or two by my so they can meet up with their party. It really doesn't bother me a bit.

But when there is ONE person holding a spot and then 5 or 6 or more people start shoving through rudely as if I should know enough to move for them...then I get angry and I will pretend to ignore them while also blocking their way. Rude of me? probably.

Huh... that's one I never thought I'd see listed.

Then again, none of my family members would dream of cutting a line to ask a CM to see their pins. If they are busy doing their job, it would be rude and inconsiderate to ask them to stop to trade with us.

In those cases (such as in checkout lines), we stand in line like everyone else.
