October 2010 Car Rentals

My rates with Alamo haven't went up since last week but it will not let me apply the Entertainment coupon (glad I booked last week with it!), but National has lost their mind! I thought maybe I put in the wrong code or something (one that added L&W added it) but nope. For 9.5 days they want $700 for a full size :scared1: There has to be a glitch in their system or the rate setter is on some powerful mind altering drug:rolleyes1

I went to re-check rates at Alamo yesterday with my $30 off coupon & it wouldn't let me use it either. This is the same coupon I already have a confirmed reservation using. I agree it must be some kind of glitch. I'll try again today. No big deal though. I already have a compact reserved for a week at $143. I doubt it will come down more than that, but you never know. It never hurts to keep checking.

I've noticed that on National the rates for early October has gone down to a more reasonable amount. However, there is still a coupon glitch going on and hopefully they'll get it fixed. My coupon works for my September reservations, but not for the October one and that is using the online coupon that is good until the end of the year. I'm guessing they are in the process of making somea adjustments, so will be patient to see if I can get a better rate for my Oct. 31-Nov. 12 reservation.

i noticed rates dropped slightly this am, but unable to modify corporate code on res & use the existing coupon i had attached to original res.:confused3]

oh how i'd hate to see that loophole of sorts close:eek:

The coupon does not seem to be working on any of the "codes", so it may not be related to your "special" code. I think it's a glitch currently w/coupons. I had no problem trying a coupon over the weekend for October reservations, only now did this start. It may work itself out. I got an excellent rate for my Sep/Oct trip, but that's because I'm picking up in September. Now the same rate is higher.

probably right...was trying to think of the verbage i've seen used when a site has stopped accepting coupons for high volume period...don't think this is it:confused:

my rate using original corp code i booked (without the coupon i had attached to original reservation of $30) is now same ballpark so i booked a 2nd one:rolleyes1hoping the dust will settle in day or so and coupons can be applied (otherwise i'll just cancel #1 & hope i can apply one within next couple of weeks to new res)

i've seen the verbage , "coupon exceeds capacity"...
I have a 9 day with National Emerald Aisle, $232.33, using 6100120 and 1 free day, Oct 23rd to Nov 1, 2010. If I try to book again it comes to over $500. Even if I try to modify with the $30 coupon, it brings it up to +$500.
October rentals with National are really crazy right now.

The rates are high in October this year because I am going in October instead of my usual thanksgiving. anyone going in November this year will be graced with low rates instead of the usual skyrocket rates. Sorry Penny.

Strange! October more than November. I was just able to reduce my minivan rental at Thrifty from $371 o $288 Nov 8-15th using the Orlando Magiccard code. I'm hoping more coupons will be published as time draws near.

It is sad that all the rental cars merged and created a conglomerate. I used to use Alamo exclusively but now there prices are double or triple what I can find in other companies.

I guess i should be happy with my $235 weekly rate at National for Emerald isle, 10/16-10/22. I thought that seemed very high but I guess the time for $150 weeks out of MCO are gone..

The low rates are still there, but unfortunately for you they are in September and not yet in October (we can hope). I've got a week rate for Sept. 29 to Oct. 5 for a Full Size/Executive Aisle for a total of $115. Now that is a deal!! It was only $70 before the taxes and fees after using the $40 coupon code for EA members.

I've got a 2 week rental for Oct. 31 to Nov. 12 and it's currently $299, which is pretty good. I booked it in Feb when the rates were lower. Glad I did.

that's it:thumbsup2senior moment sorry lol

just checked again, still no go on the 'good coupons' but the upgrade type (which i don't need w/national) are now working for my dates; hopefully a good sign

What is the recommendation for a 1 day car rental (and a two day car rental with the first being on a Monday and the 2nd being on either Wed or Thursday). I am also going to WDW in October (my first time!) and I would love to see US and IOA. I was thinking towards the end of my trip to check out Gatorland and the Kennedy Space Center. However, if it becomes too much of a cost, then I will just stick to the parks only and use the Mears Shuttle route for the one day US/IOA plan (which will cost approx $72 for two adults roundtrip).

Any thoughts or recommendations? Would a roundtrip cab be cheaper than $72?

just try plugging in all the codes listed here & on mousesavers for a starting point for 1 day rental from WDW.

you might find it more economical to combine your visitation offsite & book a weekend (3 day rental) & look for corp codes/coupons

if cost is an issue, don't forget to factor in gas (not much to U from WDW) & the parking fee @ Universal & tolls to KSC

fyi, there are guided bus tours available to KSC, would need to google for current info

Budget is a little bit less if you use BCD X474200 (travelocity public code) and E-Coupon MUWZ023 for $25.00 off. The total for a minivan after coupon is applied at checkout is $277.47.

Thanks for the heads up, Unfortunately, due to my airfare times, Budget penalizes me as it is not technically a 7 day rental. 6 days 19 hours! and so my rate with those cards comes cout to $302.47 actually take that back even at 7 days it is $302.47, guess I just missed those rates, but thanks for looking out for us webworm!!!!

Wheelie

The Alamo and National coupons that I could use yesterday, are not able to be applied today. Guess I should have booked yesterday.

I just found that out too, altho I already have a car booked thru Alamo for 10/5-10/11 using a coupon. I still check Alamo and National every day to see if the rates have dropped, but this morning when I checked... YIKES!! :scared1: The same midsize for same time period from Alamo that was $142 day before yesterday is now $369! And now the "coupon cannot be applied to this reservation". Thank goodness I booked early.

ive been thinking (hard;)) on this one, since it's not capacity issue stated, perhaps it's just black out dates in play.

we've traveled to MCO many times around Columbus Day & never ran into coupon blackouts...we have around Presiden'ts day though.

I've tried several of the big companies and their rates all seem really high to me :( Might just be taking the bus

Going the end of Oct/first of Nov and I can't apply the coupon either. I tried as soon as the e-mail came that said $25.00 off and it wouldn't let me do it and still won't over the past couple of days. Rates are over 400.00 for a week for the mid-size and not much less for a compact. :scared1:. We too may be taking the bus. Which will not go over well with either DH or myself - too many control issues :lmao:. Hopefully the rates will come down between now and then.

The rates are out the roof right now. I keep thinking there is a glitch and hopefully by the weekend things will be more normal. Hopefully folks at least secured something they are comfortable with. I'm happy with my reservations I'm holding, but I'm always happy to save a few extra dollars too! Good luck to all that are waiting and watching.

My travel dates are Oct 20 7pm to Oct 26 6pm - 6 days (pretty much weekly rate).
As a die hard Emerald Aisle fan, I think I'm going to have to go with Hertz this time around.
The best I have for National mid-size for EA is $212 all in which is more than what I'm used to. With CAA/AAA CDP and PC, I have a Prius at National for $148.

I think I'm going to spend some time in the next couple of days looking through all companies and will post the results in my PTR (see link below).

Hopefully as in past trips, about 2 weeks out National prices will come down!
