Walt Disney Co is considering a possible buyout of the firm that manages Disneyland Paris, according to an exclusive report in Time.

The magazine revealed: ‘After two decades of putting up with lacklustre financial results at its European theme park resort, Disneyland Paris, the Walt Disney Co is considering a possible buyout of the publicly traded French company that manages the resort, Euro Disney SCA.’

The report said the purchase of the 60% of Euro Disney Walt Disney doesn’t already own would be the first step in a ‘comprehensive turnaround strategy’.

Of the 60%, 10% is owned by the Saudi prince Al Waleed bin Talal, and the rest widely held by individual and institutional investors.

Time said the Walt Disney Co was supposed to receive a steady stream of royalties and management fees from Disneyland Paris, but because of the resort’s poor financial performance, it has had to waive, defer or reduce these fees for most years of the resort’s 20-year existence.

The report also claimed that a buyout would be followed by increased investment in the resort aimed at paying down the debt more quickly, and increasing the number of attractions. Disney could build a third park on the site between now and 2030.

Ah typical! I am just waiting for my Halifax share dealing account password so that we can buy shares ASAP. Been waiting 3 days hope they don't go up too much in the meantime!!

This is great. I've never been, but I know the performance of cast members, and the number of CMs etc. (not just the cash flow) is lackluster. I think this would improve DLP in that aspect.

I think this can only be good news for the park, thanks for sharing, not a subscriber to Time so can't read the full article, look forward to seeing if anything more tangible comes out of it, read on another news site that Eurodisney were unable to comment this evening.

Never thought my shares would make me any money, but now wondering whether to get some more, will WDC offer to buy out all shareholders I wonder ?

Not been funny or anything but as you've never been how can you know ? :confused3

Even if this does happen and it's not the first time this sort of rumeur has come out, the CM's won't be replaced and the working practises will remain the same as they are bound by French labour laws and practices.

I was about to say the same. If you haven't been, you can't "know" this about the CM's! I would be the first to say if I found the CM's rude, incompetent or whatever, but I can honestly say that on all of our trips the CM's have gone out of their way to make our trip magical. It was a slightly unfair comment.

I wonder whether this rumour will prove to be true, and if it does what will that mean for the parks, I actually wonder if it may increase costs to the public, I was astounded at how expensive a visit to DL California is pricing up!

Ahhh I was waiting for shares been keeping an eye out as they've been going down and down :-( but now they've shot up! X

I agree we have never experienced an awful CM at DLP! There are just a fewer quieter ones but this may also be due to the language barrier!

We have had amazing interaction since having DD before we never had a reason to interact with the CMs

I'm sorry, I did. Very few, but I found some rude CM.
And on average CM are way better in the USA. I think this is due to an high turnover of people (they use short term contracts a lot) and less training.

As an expat here we are very familiar with WDW and DL. Now we have one visit to DLP with another scheduled. DH just read me the news from CNN and I think it is about time for the Disney corp to step in and take control. Ultimately the main goal is the bottom line and profit. Hopefully with that will come better trainings for the CM's and structure in the park. I for one felt that the CM's lacked the joy of other parks. It isn't language but how they seemed to feel about the job. Yes, you are suppose to smile, fake it if you must. Do labour laws stop them from doing a god job?

I hope Disney takes control and brings some organization down the actual customer level by having people queue for characters. I hope they listen to the what the customers have to say.

Of course, I also want my stock purchase to go up.

I agree there are some amazing CMs in America we were engaged and honeymooned in WDW and the service we received was AMAZING!

But since having DD we have had some great CMs as well in DLP. Especially characters! I think once you have been to WDW you have been a bit spoilt! But I have also read a lot of people on here (more the US side of the DIS) experience terrible interaction with CMs

Like I said before though me and DH don't interact with them much we both have jobs where we have to interact with the public and whilst on holiday we like to keep our selves to our selves and enjoy our own company.

I really hope this happens!!

DLRP is in desperate need of some WDC input!

I agree that while some CMs seem to get it there are some who are rude and grumpy.
Very un-Disney! We came across a few on our trip. To be made to feel like you're bothering a CM does not make you feel good.

Also this will hopefully mean less breakdowns, less shabby looking areas and cleaner toilets!!!

I'm sure where ever you go some one will experience bad service.

I have read plenty of threads on the US side of the DIS where people have complained about poor CM services

If DH would have replied to this thread he wouldn't agree with me about DLP! Even though we experience the same holiday and the same service I think I am more optimistic and remember all the brilliant CMs! He feels DLP is half hearted and the magic isnt there like at WDW!

Agree! About the breakdowns!

Hopefully the studios will look less like an industrial estate!

I really hope they get good input on the sanitation team and how to keep the WC cleaner.

At WDW there is usually a matron in the WC at least every hour to clean it up.

There certainly wasn't on our last trip to WDW (Christmas 2009/New Year 2010) as some of the toilets we used were disgusting, especially the ones in Epcot and they'd been like that all day!

I was satisfied with the state of the toilets we used last week but I've written a separate post about it so as not to take this thread too off-topic.

Jonjo, thanks for sharing this with us. :goodvibes I wonder if anything will come of it?

I hope this is true. It can only be good for DLRP in the long term. The last couple of years I've gone to WDW rather than DLRP and I have to say I have found everything to be far superior over there. I know someone above mentioned that you are spoiled if you go to WDW but that shouldn't be the case. It should be the same experience regardless of which Disney park you go to. I have only been with adults really to both DLRP and WDW and even though some people will argue that DLRP is just for children, I don't agree and believe that regardless of what age you are you are paying for the disney experience. I have found that you can be dismissed a fair bit in paris because you don't have children. Yes the prices will probably go up but I very much believe that you get what you pay for and if they invest and bring it up to the standard I've seen in WDW then its worth it. Prices are already fairly high for Paris anyway. I'm actually excited about this:yay:
