All Good Things Come To Those That Wait - A Pre-trip Report

Yeah just caught up again :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I love the a Disney plate Corinna and what a fantastic idea  like you I have had several pillowcases done for the girls over the years and once home not known really what to do with them, but the plate would be a lovely idea ;)

OMG that water looks choppy in Cabo :rotfl2:

How lovely re Cabo. That's very good value re glass bottom boat tour. I do enjoy those :-) Sealions wonderful! I hope you manage to get to the market this visit. Those crafts sound very charming. It must be difficult to pace yourself on souvenirs with luggage restrictions on flight home! Although I have to admit we always purchase an extra bag now lol...

Cabo is a really beautiful place. I am actually not too bad with souvenirs. I tend to be drawn to small and lightweight things. I am really hoping to get a rough emerald in Columbia. I love my Disney pins. I like jewellery so some Mexican silver jewellery is a possibility in Cabo as is some of the gorgeous embroidery.

That'll be a great update when you do get round to talking about the glass bottom boat ride. Hope you have a great experience. :thumbsup2

I enjoyed it last time, but the sea was just a little too rough to get the full experience.

Corinna, Cabo looks gorgeous!!! I've seen that rock formation in movies but never knew where it was.

The rocks are fascinating and the whole area around Cabo is very pretty.

We didn't get off the ship in Cabo due to the tendering. It sounds like a neat port and hope some day to experience it.

That is the one drawback with Cabo.

Yeah just caught up again :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I feel much the same about the pillowcases.

It really was a rough old day that day.

Today is a special day in the countdown to this trip: It is our Single Digit Day. In 9 days we should be just about to embark on the last leg of our flight from New York to Miami. I can’t believe how quick time is going at the moment.

Today was a good mail day for me. The last things that I needed for my Secret Mickey arrived as did my dresses and the foldable shoes that I had ordered have arrived. So now I have everything that is coming here. There are two packages going to Miami. I know one is due to be sent on Friday so that should get there in plenty of time. The other is still work in progress, but that one does not have very far to go.

We had a bit of a spanner in the works over the weekend. Our washing machine broke down. We won’t be able to get a new one before we leave for this trip. So now I need to pay a visit to the launderette to get some of the stuff that we are hoping to take washed. Fortunately I have Friday off so I can do it then. The closes launderette even has free internet so I can catch up with stuff while I wait for the machines to finish.

Single digit dance!!!!!!

:jumping1::jumping1::jumping1:

Bummer about the washing machine, sorry that happened, and at such an inconvenient time :(

Wow, you are so close! What a pain to have to go to the laundromat before the trip.

Yes, I could have done without this. Still, I have three days off coming up so plenty of time to get the laundry done.

I just found out they do service washes. It is not much more expensive than doing it myself and that will be one thing less to worry about.

9 days yeah! How exciting Corinna! Did you order those nice foldaway shoes in silver like the picture? They sure were pretty. Glad all your packages arrived. I love good mail days. Sorry to hear about your Washing machine! If you still lived near us I would do your washing for you! I just got mine mended. The door seal decided to leak all over the kitchen floor. Huey our little dog thought it was a hoot and flapped his big Shih Tzu ears in it! They were very clean. He smelt of Ariel washing detergent for days lol...

Imagine how you will feel when you buckle up on that flight knowing the next time you walk on land you will be on US turf in Miami! Next you will see those custom booths...that distinct smell of America.

Yay for single digits, but boo for the washing machine. I read this yesterday, but keep forgetting to comment from the phone!

I'm in single digits too! Yay!

I hope you have a great trip and so glad that all of your orders are on the way to you and you don't have to worry about things! You're going to have a great trip!

Single Digit. :dance3:

I am starting to go into a little panic. Still, I have only got today to get through and then I have three days off so at least I can get the last cruise preparations shipshape.

Yes, I ordered the silver ones. I really like them. I have had fold up shoes before, but these look a lot more classy.

A week from now we will be at the gate at the airport or maybe even on the plane waiting to take off. The first time that we set our feet on land again will actually be in New York as we have a 5.5 hour layover there. Still, it is all good. I am hoping I will be able to get the latest installment of the Kingdom Keepers series there. If I can't find it at the airport, I will just order it on Amazon once we get to Miami and have it sent to the hotel in San Diego. Then I will have it for the flight back. We will also have a late lunch/early dinner there so that we can go straight to bed when we get to the hotel in Miami.

Yay for your single digit day, too. Everything has arrived now apart from the packages that are going to the hotel in Miami and they will be shipped tomorrow and Saturday respectively.

Making Magnets has been an integral part of the planning process for me ever since our Med cruise in 2010. I spend many happy hours looking through the Photobuckets of talented designers to find inspiration and then request my favourite designs. I like that this makes our door look more personal and also helps us to find our cabin quicker in a corridor where every door looks like the next. On some of our more recent cruises, I had difficulties with Magnets not sticking to the door properly and falling off. So for the last cruise, I decided to just laminate the designs and stick magnetic tape to the back. This worked extremely well and none of the magnets moved even slightly. So this is what I have done again this time. The only slight issue is that my cheap laminator is getting rather too hot after a while and this makes the edges curl. Still, I had plenty of time to get the magnets done and just laminated them in small badges of 6 to 8 at a time.

Normally most of my magnets are pretty generic. Although they tend to be personalized with the date of the cruise, the actual design could be used for any cruise. I then have a few magnets that are specific to the itinerary or to the ports of call. This cruise is different. I have a few generic Magnets, but most of them are specific to the itinerary or the ports of call. Here are my generic magnets:

Other than that my magnets fall into four categories: Itinerary Specific, general Panama Canal, Panama Canal 100th Anniversary and Ports of Call.

The star attraction of this cruise is definitely the Panama Canal for me. So I have a nice variety of magnets for this. This is also a rather special year for the Panama Canal. In August of this year, the Panama Canal will celebrate its 100th anniversary so of course I need some magnets to commemorate this this.

Normally I have one or two magnets with the itinerary on them, but I recently came across some great designs that are symbols made up of words. I really like those and they contain all the ports of calls and other information about this cruise. I also have a couple of more traditional itinerary magnets.

While I was browsing, I came across some really cute porthole designs with the ports of call for a Med itinerary. I asked if something like this could be done for the ports for this cruise. I really love how they have come out.

Another designer did some different port graphics for me and I really love them, too.

Now I just have to find the time to actually add the magnetic tape, but that can be a task for the weekend.

That's a very effective way to create magnets. Hope you find your magnetic tape. :thumbsup2

Love the pictures you've gotten. They look great and I hope you'll take a picture of your door with them all up to share.

I know precisely where the magnetic tape is, I just need to stick it on. There will definitely be photos of the door in the trip report.

What a great idea re magnetic tape! Where did you get it? We had issues with our door last year and I wondered if it was because it was an accessible cabin they have auto doors that are slightly different.

Love your magnets! Our view is if you can see the white of the door. You have failed...

My favourite FE gift was a laminated blank piece of paper last year with a date and picture of The Dream on the top. They stuck a wipeable pen and a little eraser to it and a magnet to the back. Folks put them on the door and we left messages for each other when we passed. Then we started writing on any board we saw ... Every day we came back to a message. Even the crew joined in!

Love all those magnets! I'm to the point of starting to use the magnetic tape too. The pictures on the magnetic paper just aren't as crisp and nice as I like them.

The magnets look great! I have so far not added new ones except for ones I've received as gifts. I like seeing the same ones each cruise.

I got the magnet tape from Amazon. I had big issues last year on our back to back on the Wonder where the magnets get falling off and to a lesser extend on our 2012 cruise on the Magic. I used the magnetic tape for the first time on our December cruise and had no issues.

A magnetic dryboard is now part of the Castaway Club gift.

I have always had them printed as photos and then used the Xyron Creative station with the magnetic cartridge, but the magnets are just not strong enough. Just laminating them and adding magnetic tape at the corners is also cheaper.

The magnets look great! I have so far not added new ones except for ones I've received as gifts. I like seeing the same ones each cruise.

I have great fun making new magnets for every cruise.

Corinna

I don't know if they still sell them, but I picked up magnetic photo sleeves back in '08 that worked like a charm! They came in several sizes. This way I was able to slip in a photo to suit my mood/activity, and the magnet was quite strong.
