Worst Ride Experience..I lost it on Mission Space

Kali River Rapids is mine. I have yet to ride it no matter how many times I've tried. Last trip, it finally was working enough to get into the raft, the raft is right on the edge of the turntable about to tip into the water when suddenly stops. The ride broke again but the CMs felt it was minor and went off to check whatever they needed to check. Now the bad part, it didn't just rain, the heaven's opened up and noah floated by. It took so long before they just let us out that it felt like I went swimming in my clothes. The nice part was a handful of use anywhere at anytime that day fast passes so we rode EE 10 times in a row. It was around trip 5 a cm finally asked if we had any more and did we just want to stay in the ride.

My trip that starts next week, I'm just going to skip it. No reason to even try to ride it.

Well, it starts when you uneasily climb up that freaking staircase, and as you make your way up, your fellow guests remind you exactly how high off the ground you are, which is just what you want to hear. This is only then exacerbated by looking behind and noticing that you can see the Contemporary and it seems to appear that you are on par with the heigh of California Grill (you know, the place where it looks like you're looking down on most of the Wishes fireworks). Then, you turn around and have the lovely opportunity of watching those in front of you lie down, cross their legs, scream like the Dickens, and drop straight out of sight (not to worry, we know they're alright because we can still hear them). And this is all before you actually get on the slide.

That's when it gets real fun, because you're asked to assume a very specific position (and if you're like me, your committed to getting and remaining in that exact position out of fear that any slight alteration in that position may result in your sudden and untimely death), while trying to avoid looking down at the well over 100 feet separating you from the ground. Finally, the green light flashes and you find it somewhere in you to push yourself (I reiterate willingly doing so) over the abyss, focusing on trying to maintain that position as (I kid you not) you're blinded by splashing water getting in your face and in areas where no chlorinated water should ever be. That is until the wedgie of all wedgies is formed, and it is at that point that you realize you've just landed (yes, you immediately realize you were slightly and not necessarily voluntarily in freefall for a slight moment) back on the slide, but luckily, you are able to process all that has just occurred just in time for an all-too-friendly Disney PhotoPass photographer to snap a picture of you, the look of sheer horror on your face, and your unevenly tanned exposed thighs (remember, the wedgie...). It's certainly an interesting memory (if you want to call it that), but that photo is certainly one I don't mind expiring from my Disney PhotoPass account.

Sounds like a John Pinette joke. Was it a slide? Nay, nay. At no point did my butt touch slide.

You're NOT supposed to close your eyes or move your head left or right. It only makes things worse!
I tried, and got VERy disoriented. The best thing to do is breath and keep eyes open and face forward.

With that said, I can't ride that ride anymore.
I've been on it DOZENS of times (back when it was only the one kind and then when they made a less spinny version to chose from).
I can't handle either anymore. MAYBE i can, but my anxiety about that ride has changed (i'm fine with any and every other ride, btw. Just this one).

This is embarrassing. I completely lost it on ToT. I had watched the youtube videos, my kids begged me, and I thought "how bad can it be?" Omg. It was fine until the thing shoots up. I was shrieking and screaming like I was being murdered. It was so awful! And how is it there's only a flimsy seatbelt holding you in place? I swear I had air time. The photo is me shrieking, with my eyes clenched tight, holding on for dear life. My kids are looking at me with alarm. Everyone else is smiling and taking selfies. NEVER. AGAIN. Note to self: when your choice of answers to the question "how bad can it be?" is "not bad" and "really bad", go with the latter.

I love that there's "airtime". Though, it's not as physically thrilling as it was when I was a kid.
Still fun.
I think maybe your nerves made the ride worse than it actually was. You should try it again. Now that you know what to expect, it won't be as crazy.

i recently just mentioned this on another thread and it was also mission space.... i was getting more and more nervous as they kept saying the ride was not suitable for people with fear of enclosed spaces. by the time i finally got in the capsule thing, i could actually feel it closing in around me. my butt barely sat in the seat when i bolted out the other door, i was terrified i wasn't going to make and and was going to get stuck in there! unfortunately, that left dh and dd, as only 2 on a 4 person experience. they couldn't reach the controls needed and was a bust for them.

i could probably do it if our vehicle was a convertible but cannot do that tiny capsule thingy. :)

Two words: Summit Plummet.

This is the ONLY ride in WDW I won't do! After my terrifying experience on Slush Gusher (Summit's weaker sibling), I knew I'd never try Summit Plummet!!

Your description is hysterical!

ETA - I'm lying. I forgot Astro Orbitors! I won't ride that one, either, but only because I'm terrified of the tiny elevator that you have to take to the top.

Mission Space for me too.

I had a full on panic attack. I was never claustrophobic till I rode it. Now I have problems with every ride that has a lap bar.

Last year my daughter wanted to do Sum of all Thrills with me. I convinced myself I could do it. As soon as they pulled the contraption over my head. I freaked out!!! Pounding, kicking, screaming......they released me quickly. Not one of my finer moments. :rotfl:

I have to admit that I'm a little nervous this year. I've ridden MS every trip since it's opened and never had a problem. But this summer, we were in Baltimore and went inside a WW2 submarine and I started to get panicky halfway thru the sub. A few weeks after that, I had a little of the same feelings when I had to get into the 3rd row of my Highlander... So, of course now I'm wondering if I've triggered something and going to be a mess. (My mom has full blown claustrophobia to the point where she will walk up many sets of staircases before ever stepping foot into an elevator, and even has to take a relaxer before getting on a plane.)

Ok, this is embarrassing but here goes...last week we were in Epcot. DH and DS's love Mission Space. DD not so much. Her and I had not ridden it in years. This year she decided she wanted to give it another go. I remember not loving the experience (green) because tight spaces aren't my thing. While in line I kept hearing the warnings. DD now 11 was excited so I didn't give it too much thought. Until they shut the door on that tuna can :scared1::scared1:. What the heck was I thinking quickly enters my mind. DD is excitedly chirping away. 'Isn't this fun mom?' Oh yes I manage to eek out. Now my heart is racing and I can't catch my breath. That stupid air blowing in my face is not helping. :rotfl2:. I am in full blown panic attack, I can laugh now. I am on the end and gently rapping on the door. I am caught between not wanting to ruin DD's experience and not wanting an unsuspecting cast member to find my limp body at the end. When my knocks of terror went unnoticed I decided it best to clench my eyes shut, pray to the dear Lord for mercy and go to my happy place ( all the while answering my daughters million questions and hitting my button at the appropriate time). I'm proud to tell the tale- I lived through it and will never ride it again :rotfl: What was you're worst ride experience and why?

And this right here is why I WILL NOT go on Mission Space. I can't breathe just reading your post :) I am extremely and irrationally claustrophobic!!! And, it gets worse the older I get!!! So, nope, won't ever ride it. I am so glad you can laugh about it!!! I can just imagine knocking on the door.."helloooo, anybody out there? " Except for me it would be bloody claw marks :)

This reminds me of a really high waterslide I went on when I was 12, in some waterpark I went to once in Georgia called The Rapids. It went straight down, there was a lot of freefall and it hurt my butt when I landed back down, and to top it off at the end of the slide the impact of the splash caused my swimsuit to fall off. So I was naked in the pool area at the end feeling for my swimsuit (thankfully no one realized this, not even the one girl who landed next to me from the other slide). I found it quickly and put it back on, and knew I wouldn't do that one again

For me it is a ride I lovingly refer to as Mickey's Fun Wheel of Death at DL's California Adventure. I am not a fan of ferris wheels in general, something about the combo of the height and the swinging motion. On this particular ride you get in a steel cage that is suspended to the wheel on a track so that as the ferris wheel moves the cage slides along the track and swings.

I did this ride with my DH, DS19 (at the time) and DD13. I had a full on panic attack and ended up in tears at the top of the ride. My family thought it was pretty funny. I will never ride that ride again! Just thinking about it makes me ill.

I've never freaked out on a ride, but we do have a member of our group that is scared of dinosaurs. . .and sadistic bunch that we are, we always ride Dinosaur, and she always says she can handle it. I can NEVER pass up the ride photo. (Note the six year old is fine)

Personally, I love Mission Space - and most other motion master type things. The ONLY ride I've ever had a problem with in Disney was when I had sunstroke thanks to Captain Hook (long story and it WAS an accident!) - I thought I'd be fine but the next day I was SOOOOOOOOOO ILL! My friend suggested EPCOT and the Ellen ride ... I was about 5 minutes into it when I threw up for no apparent reason. NOT pleasant - luckily we were the only two in our row!

Now I'm 99.9% sure we will NOT be returning until June (still better than what I expected before I went this June - that was 5 years minimum) ... apart from wanting to kill my boss ... I'm worrying about how my boyfriend will cope with Mission Space because he reacted extremely badly to a fairground ride. I'll give him the option to do the less intense version and see how he feels - he did say he has no problems with me doing the more intense version. He does like motion masters so fingers crossed he's OK - my friend was also ill on it 8 years ago ...

A few years ago at Disneyland I was on Space Mountain when it E-stopped and the lights came on. Super cool I thought! I always wanted to see this. After 10 minutes (really probably less) of no communication from the CMs I realized how tight the lap bar was and that we really were trapped. I started hyperventilating and sweating. It didn't help that it was raining that day and I was wearing multiple layers. I kept pushing up on the bar. Finally, I pulled out my phone and played tetris to calm me down. We were probably on there for 15 min before we were walked out, but it seriously feld like an eternity.

After this incident I couldn't go in elevators at all and many rides became impossible for me. I'm much better now, but I still refuse to go on Mission Space and RnRc or Screamin. The thought of being stuck with that restraint around my neck scares me to death.

Haunted Mansion for me.... I had a bad experience when I was 4/5 at WDW and then tried to conquer that fear by doing HM at Disneyland when I was 15. I was fine all the way until just before boarding when I dissolved into a full blown panic attack. Took me another 10 years to conquer it (and now it's one of my favourites).

Same trip and over at the Darkside they had a walk-through Van Helsing set. I saw the film and thought oh this will be cool until I saw a sign saying "do not touch the live actors." I immediately wanted out but my family said it'll be fine......it was not fine!!! Full on tears and shakes by the end and even woke up in the middle of the night "seeing" the werewolf standing at the bottom of my bed so I had to go and get in with my parents......Never again!

Mine would also be Mission Space the year it first opened I believe and had not heard about others personal experiences. My oldest was fairly young at the time, although I can't remember exactly how old. Anyway I think she needed someone to ride with her. DH was out so I sucked it up and went on. I remember clearly praying for it to end and when it looked like the ship was going to fall off that cliff at the end I think I may have begun to cry but thankfully that was the end. I very very slowly got out and carefully walked along the wall. (I needed the wall it was the only thing holding me up) and made my way to that arcade like room or whatever it is at the end to meet up with DH and DS who was still pretty little. DD was chirping along excitedly the entire time. I sat on the bench across from DH and slowly bent over putting me head between my knees trying desperately to focus on breathing. After about 40 minutes of entertaining the kids in this room he came and told me where he was going to take them and to call him when I was OK to leave. I was there at least another hour until I could straighten up and slowly walk to the nearest restroom outside and promptly throw up for a good ten minutes. I am honestly not sure how I held myself together that long. After another 15 minutes in the bathroom half of which was just taking water on towels and placing it on my head and neck I finally was able to go find my family. DH took one look at me and knew my day was done. I can not remember the rest of the day.

DD still remembers this and comments on every trip. DS does not remember it and has attempted to get me to ride with him. A close second was Expedition Everest. Although after that one all I did was slide down and sit on the floor of the gift shop. A cast member went and got me water and I think sprite to sip on. I was only there for about an hour total and it didn't wind up ruining my day as I continued to stay and do other things, and I remember wanting ice cream for some strange reason.

As far as Summit Plummet I did that once with DD around the same age. It was scary but I don't remember being upset or terrified. I do remember hydroplaning on the water, it hurting and the wedgy that was near impossible to get out when you finally stand up.

I just thought I would add DH's, which is BTMRR. This is the last roller coaster he will ever ride. He used to take the kids on roller coasters all of the time more than once often. Several years ago he rode BTMRR and when he came off it he was a mess and could barely walk. He afterward had difficulty driving and it did not go away it only became worse and worse for days and weeks. He drove and traveled a lot with his job at the time and at one point when about a 100+ miles from home he had pull over and couldn't move for a couple of hours. He finally went to an ENT and found out some tiny bone in his inner ear broke and there was an infection. It took him years to be able to drive long distances and go over certain bridges. It still acts up and causes bad dizzy spells. He to this day blames it on BTMRR and claims something during the ride knocked something lose or triggered all of this to happen. He had rode other coasters on this trip too but it was this one time everything just went haywire.

Star Tours. I gave it 2 chances on 2 different trips. Nope! Never again!! I've never been on Mission Space and I have a feeling that I never will!! I'm ok with that!
