Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

I'm absolutely hopeless.

DH and I wanted to do Disney to see the Pandora stuff, since it wasn't open yet during our last trip which was over NYE. But Disney was going to be really expensive, and to maximize time we'd want to do that new (over-priced) AK VIP tour. So we decided to do Universal instead, since it would be cheaper, and we hadn't been since before either of the Harry Potter sections opened.

So, we booked a quick Easter long weekend trip to Universal. Thus I've got March 29 to April 2 booked at the Royal Pacific.

But today I noticed that Disney had a deal available. So now I've also got March 30 to April 2 booked at BC. And ADRs for each night. (Slow day at work equals too much time surfing the Disney sites.). But the AK tour isn't offered that weekend. Grr.

Now I'm not sure what to do. We are waiting for flights, and it's looking like that may be what decides it for us. One possible airline flies to MCO on the Thursday night and the other flies down Friday morning. Both are still way too expensive. The current plan is that whichever one goes on sale first wins, and we'll go to the park with the reservation that matches the flights. We prefer the airline that flies down on the Friday morning, but since we haven't been to Universal in nearly 20 years I'd want a full day there Friday, thus the idea of the not-so-preferred airline. For WDW, we've been enough times that a shorter stay is no problem.

Is it horrible to have two different trips booked for the same weekend? Do other people have problems committing to the idea of going somewhere other than WDW? I was perfectly fine with the idea of a Universal-only trip until the Disney deal came out. OMG, what is wrong with me?! I'm a total BC addict!
Don't worry you are not alone! We booked a short vacation at Universal for next month before our AP ran out. Then my husband saw that F&W festival would still be going on and asked about adding a night or two at Disney. He never asks for anything so sure we can add a night at Disney. Well then the airline that I have a ton of points at decided that they were only going to have a late afternoon non stop flight instead of the usual early morning nonstop. I hate switching planes and avoid doing it at all costs, so we decided to go the night before. Low and behold that days flight was crazy expensive but the day before that was almost half the price. Still with me?

Before I new it the 4 day short trip to Universal became a four day Disney trip followed by a 4 day Universal trip. Just don't know how that happened but were happy LOL! And yes at one point I had both the Dolphin and the BC booked at the same time why I tried to figure everything out. Just canceled the Dolphin hotel.

So sorry about your continued problems. Early in the day is the best time to go down to the front desk for a room change. They may tell you nothing is available till later in the day, but, if you are still going to be there, beyond today, I would accept that. You can place your belongings in a family member's room, till new room is open.

I have stayed in a guest room that was backed up against a service elevator, and I heard that elevator run all hours of the day and night. It was sheer torture! Is your room next to passenger elevators or service elevator?

They should be able to move your room, though the new room might not be next to or near rooms of others in your party. It may be your call, as to what is more important.
So here's what's happened. $200 resort credit and 6 extra fp for MK. we decided to stay in room b/c the thought of re packing and missing more park time wasn't worth it. Feel completely ok with what disney did to fix it.

I really really hope the weather this weekend doesn't suck! I know it always rains in Florida, but this tropical depression is making it look like it's going to rain a lot more than the usual afternoon thunderstorm. I'm staying at YC 70% because of the pool (I'm obsessed with SAB) and have some major pool time scheduled. Fingers crossed!

Me too! We're going this weekend, not staying at BC/YC but still hoping for some pool time.

Big difference? I would have to say no. Tangible differences? Yes! Little subtleties like lobby atmosphere, shopping, lounges and restaurants. I have not stayed at the YC in a while but it seems like the room renovations are meeting with mixed reviews. On the other hand BC renovations seem more favorable to guests who have stayed there. All [99.5%] rooms at YC have full balconies or patios. BC has less and some are not full balconies. Both have access to SAB and the Ship Shape health club, arcade are centrally located for both resorts. Add another 2 - 3 minutes for walk from YC to Epcot, but the YC is closer to the Friendship Boat dock. I'm sure there are other differences, but these best reflect my observations.
Another difference that we noticed.... shared busses pick up and drop off at YC first. Some days the bus was to full when it got to BC, that not everyone waiting got on.

It's been a few days since we got back from our short weekend trip to the YC. I really want to try all the resorts so I seldom have repeat stays, but I would like to return to the YC, or maybe BC.

Mostly I want to go back because I don't feel that I truly got to enjoy the YC/BC experience. This was a weekend trip for just my two kids and me (no DH) and each was allowed to bring a friend. That really changed the dynamic of the trip. I rarely saw 13-year-old DD as she and friend were off doing their own thing. The bigger problem was that my usually well-behaved son (9) and his usually well-behaved friend went totally crazy for the weekend. I spent most of my time keeping them from literally climbing the walls, laughingly running down the hallways, climbing things that were not intended to be climbed, and all manner of monkey-business. I don't know what got into them, but it took all my time and attention just to keep them in any semblance of respectable behavior. We had fun (ok, THEY had fun), but I didn't get ANY chance to just relax and enjoy the ambience of the resort.

Good excuse to go back, right!

Sorry for digressing from the point of this thread. As far as YC goes, it was lovely. CMs were super pleasant and helpful. We arrived around 9:00am and while they didn't have a club level room available, they gave us a room on the 4th floor with an upgraded view of the pool and the lake which was absolutely beautiful (I just wish I'd been able to enjoy it more, but no lounging on the balcony with a cup of coffee for me on this trip). The room was nice and spacious. I loved the curtains! I didn't find the hardwood floors to be noisy, but the boys somehow brought in sand in their bathing suits, which got all over the floor and was a little unpleasant. I missed having a ceiling fan, mostly for the noise, but the room was plenty cool enough. I slept on the pull-down couch bed, which was very comfortable and large enough for a grown-up. I expected the room to be crowded with five of us but surprisingly it didn't feel cramped at all. It helped that we had the CL lounge to go to to spread out so we didn't spend much time in the room.

Stormalong Bay was everything I'd hoped it would be and more! This was my one chance to relax a little because it was more ok for the boys to act a little wild in the pool than in the resort lobby and hallways. They got a lot of "no running, no climbing on the rocks, no running, no throwing sand, no running, no going down the slide head-first, no running, no hanging on the volleyball line, no running," but overall it was a good time. That slide tunnel had always looked a little narrow to me, but I was surprised at how big the tunnel part is when you're actually in it. I'm pretty sure I could have sat up completely inside it--I didn't try it because I value my noggin--but I think I could have. I really enjoyed that slide! The line for the slide was never more than a few people and the pool was just the right amount of crowded. There were enough people for it to be "sociable" and for the kids to find new friends to play with, but not unpleasantly crowded. it was really absolutely perfect. It was fun to swim over to the edge of the pool near where the walkway is fenced off and see people walking to and from Epcot or wherever, and remember how many times my family has walked that path and looked in on Stormalong Bay and wished we could be in that pool. And now there we were!

This was our first time staying club level and I would do it again under the right circumstances. This was just a resort stay (no parks) and I had four children with me, so I think I would have spent more than club level cost just in drinks and snacks. It was nice to have a pleasant place to go to take a break and get a cold drink. We didn't get any of the perks mentioned for club level--no curbside welcome at check-in, no welcome drink, no turn-down service, or bathrobe and slippers, but we were on the 4th floor and it was better for us to get a room early than to get these amenities. I didn't care much about these perks anyway, I really just wanted easy, constant access to food and drinks and a place to spread out a little, and it met our needs perfectly. If it were a family trip and we were going to spend most of our time in the parks, I probably wouldn't pay the extra for club level.

So, I liked the resort as much as I thought I would but I really wish I'd had the chance to enjoy it more. Hopefully I'll get a chance to come back and do just that someday in the future!

We will be in at YC over the holidays. I usually decorate our window when we stay at a moderate. Does anyone decorate windows or doors at YC? Looking for ideas if so. Also, I have a three year and I was going to order the mickey balloon bouquet, but the one offered on Disney floral and gifts is the exact same one I bought last year so that's out. I love the mini tree but $200 is way too steep for me.

I've never seen doors or windows decorated at any deluxe resort.

I saw one door decorated at YC. It was a very attractive ship's steering wheel sort of thing, decorated with nautical stuff and little things (that might have been buoys?) with the family members' names painted on them. It looked like a craft project like you might get the stuff for at Michael's, so a little more upscale than a few Dollar Tree decals, haha.

I have seen balconies decorated but not too many doors.

I am not sure if it was the same one, but we also saw 1 door decorated this weekend at YC with a ship's wheel but I thought that it had spiders with the family's names on them (it was very nice), we were in room 4047 and passed it every day to get to our room. I don't remember seeing any other doors decorated.

I have brought suction cups with hooks and hung Xmas lights on the sliding glass door at the Beach Club. When we stayed at the Boardwalk one year I hung Christmas lights inside the room. They were loosely draped over the frame of a picture and they made a great night light.

I always hang suction cup Xmas lights inside my room window at Plop Century, no matter when I stay. It makes it fun to find your room at night and the other kids staying near my room always wag their tails when they see them. I have heard a couple of families talking about them as I approached the room.

Hi all! We checked in last night around 11pm. I actually got a room ready text at 11am while I was sitting in my living room. Ha!
We were lucky to get a room here at all, as it took some perseverance, calling daily, til something opened up. Major convention of some sort going on. So we were only able to get a standard view. It is a roof, facing the front of the resort, and trees. Can't see the ground because of the roof. However I can see the Epcot ball great off to the right. So all in all, not a bad room. I love the sitting area that is only a couple doors down from us. I am out here chilling while dd naps and I can still see our room.
It is raining today. I have the little one napping now. Was supposed to be a pool day for her and myself while DH and sons went on their fishing excursion. We were only out there 15 mins when started raining hard. She needs extra rest anyways. We have mnsshp tonight, so cross fingers it isn't raining the whole time.
This is a precruise stay so we only have today and tomorrow. We were hoping for some good pool time.

Here is the view...

Yes! That was it! My memory plays tricks on me sometimes where I fill in parts of memories that are hazy with whatever makes sense to me. It must have been spiders because there was some type of web-like material wrapped around the ship's wheel, so that makes sense. I guess it was a Halloween-themed ships's wheel? I didn't really look too closely, just glanced at it on the way by, but we were in room 4091 so we walked by it often also.

Oh I am definitely doing this for our stay at the Swan in December! Thanks for the idea!

Does anyone have the check in option show up yet? We aren't going until March! I thought it was 60 days prior but it's showing up now? Could it be a glitch or do they start this early now?
