How good is Artist Pointe?

We've always enjoyed Artist Point, but might be a bit biased for sentimental reasons, given the number of mixed reviews I've seen as of late. The food is very good in our experience, though probably not the equal of other sig's such as California Grill or Jiko. I think the value of Artist Point might be for those searching for a quieter, more romantic dining experience than you'll find elsewhere on property. I typically go for the venison and while generally very good, I'm not blown away by it as a culinary experience.

Artist Point is easily one of my favorite restaurants at WDW - excellent, interesting food and usually doesn’t have too many kids there. Not that I hate kids, my wife and I have five of them, but sometimes you just want a nice quiet, relatively romantic meal. Artist Point is among the quietest at Disney, although quiet is a relative thing - it is Disney, after all.

We've got five as well, -so I can relate and completely agree! Ironically, our first visit to the restaurant was Valentines Day 1997, before any of those little carpet crawlers appeared. :D

This all the way. DH and I love staying at WL, and AP is part of that quiet, romantic ambience. Plus we like Pacific Northwest flavors, so that sets it apart as well. IMO, it's a more laid back experience than say California Grill. Another plus is that if you get out around 8 or 9, Geyser Point is right there for a night cap. We've always enjoyed our food as well as the pacing of the meal.

Agreed and the Territory Lounge is awesome!

It's my favorite WDW signature. It's a beautiful restaurant (in a beautiful resort) with impeccable service and fantastic food. We've eaten there five times and on our last trip in December, it was, hands-down, the best meal of the trip (we also ate at Cali Grill and HBD on that trip). It's quiet and feels quite elegant. Love it!

Background.... DVC owners, we go twice per year. 12 years. Homed at BRV (the REAL "Villas at Widerness Lodge"). We do not buy DDP anything - every year, we buy TIW.

Artist Point (AP), over 12 years, has been a bit shaky. GOOD NEWS UP FRONT - a Major Restaurant Manager with a stunning reputation for "turn arounds" was given AP a good two years ago.

That stunning Manager has done WELL. She walked into a really GOOD Sig, in a DDP death spiral. She turned it around. As of 11-2017 (last visit), AP is AGAIN stunning. Oh yes, there was a good 4 year period PRIOR to this when AP fell into the dreaded "DDP quality trap".

Through GREAT management? This was corrected. AP wisely went with "Basics" + "Addons" to defeat the DDP Quality trap. Just us? We are very happy :).

We were there for NYE 2017. By far, one of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time. Service, atmosphere, food, all stellar. We enjoyed the appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Can’t say enough good things. So glad we finally made it.

We have been to all the signatures besides Monsieur Paul and Morimoto. Narcoosees and Artist Point was our least favorite. Granted we have only been once to them and may have caught them on an off night. Which is possible. Narcoosees we will never go back, but AP we may try again. Not sure. Next trip, 2019 we plan on going to MP and Morimoto along with several others of our favorite signatures (Le Cellier, Yachtmans, CG, CRT, Jiko).

If you order the mushroom soup, salmon on a cedar plank and the berry cobbler, I promise you won’t go wrong. All three items are spectacularly delicious.

Well, that certainly explains it, we ordered all three of these items!! Plus a few others. Actually, I ordered the chicken, since everyone else picked all the other options. I know it sounds silly, but it was seriously the best chicken dish I have ever had!

What went wrong during your visit to Artist Point? Bad food? Bad service? Both?

Thanks for mentioning this. I think my last meal at AP must have been before the changes. It was so bad, from both a food and service standpoint, that I crossed them off of my list. Prior to that meal, I had good (but not great) experiences. `But now I think I'll give them another chance!

Service was great! No complaints there. The food didn’t live up to the hype in our opinion. We were not impressed. For the prices we pay at signatures we want to be wowed. I understand if it’s just one dish, but none on our party of 4 were. We all got different things too. One thing one of us should have done was order the Salmon. We were just not in the mood for it that night and I hear that’s their best dish. That’s he reason we may try it again one day!

Narcoosees was very blah service and food. Something we observed during the bringing of our food kind of turned our stomachs to begin with. Just prefer to never go back there.

I do understand these are some people’s favorites and I would never try to tell anyone to never go. We have favorites that some don’t like either! We each prefer different experiences.
