I love credit cards so much!

I paid in full last year with gift cards. I also paid this year with my Disney Rewards redemption card. No issues whatsoever - if Disney accepts it as a payment method they will basically :)

I'm sort of surprised at this. Did you take advantage of the $100 referral/$200 statement credit? or are you using the 2% card and gasp paying the fee??? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for correcting me! I will edit my post.

Sure.

This change has made my calculations on buying DVC harder. I am all set to buy tomorrow when my guide is back in the office. I will say I woke up at 4 a.m. today in a panic - cold sweat about spending the money on something frivolous. My husband thinks I'm insane. I probably am. I do think, though, that people shouldn't discount the increased point requirement for member benefits (since they can/do change apparently) and the ever-increasing cost of resale. For small contracts (100 or sub) it's really hard to know what to do.

We have been going back and forth about getting DVC, this is probably why they don’t want you to walk out the door without buying while there but I am trying to understand this use year and booking window and whether it is difficult to get reservations for say Aulani or Vero Beach in June or Aug. so let’s say I get a use year of Oct, my home Resort is Copper Creek, in order to take advantage of the 11 month’s out, I would need to book Sept. But DS has school in Sept so I would be looking probably to book either June or Aug but I may not be able to get them since that would be either 8 or 10 months out? But then I usually book my airfare first with SW before my hotel since the airfare can be all over the place pricing wise but SW’s schedule isn’t out 8 or 10 months in advance...or am I just overthinking this and I should just buy the 120 points and be done with it? Especially since I already have this Plat that I need to make the spend on and justify the outrageous AF to DH...

Ithink your getting use year and the 11 month window mixed up a bit.

Use year is when you get say your 120 points...if you have an October use year every 10/1 ...you get 120 points in your account....that can be used from say 10/1/18 to 9/30/19....

The 11 month window is when you can start booking your home resort so if you wanted to book a August 2019 wacation...you could do so now using your October 2018 points

We fly SW as well and usually book at the 11 month window...then book flights when released

I guess it depends on what member benefits you're going to use the most. A lot of people tout the AP discount and that is great, but if you only buy enough points for a few nights a year, is it worth it? You have to run your own cost-benefit analysis, but usually the answer is no, unless you're leveraging your stays such that you're using most of your current and next year points in an 11-month period, so you get two separate long visits with an AP.

Then you have to consider, once you buy that AP, you start to think to yourself "Hey, park tickets are expensive, but now that's paid for an entire year, and look now that I have an AP and DVC I can get cash discounts on rooms, so I could pop down to WDW for a quick weekend. And since I get a dining and merchandise discount I'll buy some souvenirs."

Disney knows what they are doing.

Well, I'm going to give you my perspective from my experience in looking at this for the last 18 years.

For 100 or less points buy direct where you want to stay and try to get the best use year for your vacationing habits. It's really much, much simpler and the price difference can probably be made up in ready to use points or the almost double points depending when you buy and the no hassle absolute convenience. Waiting for and trying to capture a small contract by resale appears to be no picnic and hasn't been easy since I bought in. There are of course going to be people who 'made out' with a small resale contract, but not by anything so significant that I would wait for it.

I’d tell her to do sole prop with her name and social, based on the childcare.
Does her dh have any history with chase? He may want to try discover and see how his score looks after using that for 6 months.
thanks for the advice. I'll pass that along.

In terms of a sign-on bonus, is the CSP still one of my best bets? I don't want to double dip and I don't want to open a business card. I know about the whole Disney UR debacle, but again, just wondering which card will give me the best sign on bonus. I don't want something like the Southwest card that for the most part can only be used for SW flights. Thank you!
ABSOLUTELY! A CSR or CSP Card still makes a ton of sense and is one of the best signup bonuses out there.

If you can easily double dip the travel credit and the TSA pre or GE credit make sense then I’d go CSR.

IF those things don’t appeal to you take the CSP! 50k URs with an annual fee waived the first year...YES please :) :)

I have a Sep use year because we do F&W and MNSSHP but I go all year round. September is when the points get loaded into my account. But I can book before then at the 11 month window. Example, my 2019 points will be available to me for September 2019. If I have plans for October 2019, I don’t need to wait until September of 2019 to book my stay. Nothing would be available if I did that. I can book my October 2019 stay in November of 2018 (11 months) out. I am using my Sep 2019 points to book that. If I was planning to stay in say a grand Villa that will use more points than what i have in my allotted 2019 UY then I could also bank 2018 points to 2019 and borrow 2020 points too.

I love SSR! It was the first resort I stayed at so it will always be special to me. He agrees that in order to be a deluxe you have to be closer to a park. Plus there is also no signature restaurant at SSR or even a character meal. I still love it thought but French Quater is nice too.

It was our first DVC stay and contract! Love SSR!

This is one card where it is pretty easy to get support clicks on r/churning ;)

Also many of us here benefited from DoctorofCredit doing a big article on the Disney card and allowing us to share our links there.

I have not put a dollar on any of my Disney cards this year though, lol (and we have 3 of them between me and my wife lol)!!

Since double dip is dead, I guess it is a good thing you don't want to do it. Lol Either the CSP or the CSR would be your best bet. I know the $450 fee is scary, but take a look at how much you spend on travel/eating out a year. You can get more back with the higher fee making it worth it. Especially now that you have to wait 48 months to get the other, think about it before you make the decision. Maybe you can get the CSR and double dip your $300 after a year and then downgrade to CSP if you think it is not for you. Good luck!

Guess I won’t be using the CVS RMN offer I linked. Apparently the only two CVS stores in Idaho are in Nampa and Twin Falls. Not going to do either of those drives for $10. I might be able to hit CVS when I’m in CA at the end of the month though....

It can be worthwhile if you get another RMN account for your SO...twice the earnings in one trip :rolleyes1

Since I just finished putting almost $5600 on my SPG Lux to meet the spend of $5K I have been watching these accounts as often as 4-5 times per day. That feels like a whole lot to me so I can't imagine doing it 10 times per day.

But I digress. Again. In trying to figure out how to quickly get rid of the spend, I paid 2 bills with speedpay which required small fees. No big deal. So, first I watched them go pending immediately 6 days ago. Then I saw them both paid on the water and electric websites the following day. But still pending on Amex. Yesterday morning both disappeared from the pending but did not post. My balance due jumped to just under 5K. Then the smaller payment posted a little later in the day. This morning still waiting for the larger ($600+) payment to post. It's missing from pending. The electric company has their payment. Without this posting I am $8 short of minimum spend.

Anyway, I'm sure it will post soon. But I think it's really weird that there would be no sign at all on the website of a $600+ charge for up to 2+ days that the credit card has paid out to the merchant.

I'll be watching this one all day until it posts. I don't quite get why they would post one charge but not the other, especially since it has paid out. Is it possible they could 'see' my prepayment of 3-4 times my electric bill??? Or is using speedpay perhaps making them look sideways at my transactions? Speedpay is Western Union, I believe and is what our local electric and water use to accept credit card payments.

This happened to me as well; also with the Lux. I bought a mattress over labor day that delivered this past Saturday. From labor day through Saturday, I expected the charge to be in pending status, just as if you were shopping online and the merchant doesn't run the charge (other than a temp hold) until the items ship. Well, Saturday rolled around, got the mattress, and I expected to see the charge post by Monday. Monday rolls around and the charge is gone . Not pending, not posted. Figured Amex will get their money...and of course, three days later, I see the charge finally post. But it almost felt like a Chase Biz card where charges go poof in between from pending to posted.

I showed my husband my spreadsheet with what we have saved on trips since last spring (2017) when I started tracking thru March 2019 spring break. It was around $20k and I haven’t even booked all our flights yet.
His response, “is that inflated though?”
Ummm no. Why does this all seem so far fetched!?:teacher:

Too good to be true?

Me and DH haven't truly combined our finances yet; may never will, but we have a joint account for household expenses such as the mortgage, utilities, etc. Vacation money is still considered "discretionary", so we both transfer money into the joint after we reconcile all vacation spending when we get back and divide it in half. For this reason, DH sees exactly how much he had to spend on a vacation since it's a direct withdrawal from his account to our joint. Flights have generally been "free" for us since we had a ton of SW points and CP, so he's aware of this, but has taken this for granted lol. This past June, though, for our trip our west to CA/DL, our hotels were completely on points, so when we came home and I told him the 'damage', he was floored :scared1:. It was essentially half of what we normally spend since all we paid for was food, activities, and baseball tickets (DL I paid for with Disney GCs I amassed, so he reimbursed me for those early on). When he sees the withdrawal amount taken from him cut in half, it drove the point home rather quickly :D

unless you're leveraging your stays such that you're using most of your current and next year points in an 11-month period, so you get two separate long visits with an AP.

This is good strategy if you can vacation like this. I do this with my BWV points for stays in Jan or Feb and Nov - I use/activate an AP for the first January trip, then go in November, and then my third visit will be this January approximately 2 weeks earlier than last years.

Nov 2019 may be AP or may be no expiry - haven't decided yet, but will structure stays to get 3 trips over a 1 year period. I don't worry about ap renewals discount.

Can someone help with my next credit card selection? I'm kinda stuck and we have about a $30k kitchen remodel coming up in the next month so obviously makes sense to get some new cards...

Travel plans for the next year....
Disney Nov 2018 (fully covered with points now)
Carnival Cruise Mar 2019 (cruise paid in full, Holiday Inn 2 nights before covered with points) - driving
June 2019 - 4 night boating/lake stay in KY/TN - AirBNB (driving)
Aug 2019 - Hilton Head via AirBNB (driving)
Only plans beyond that is *maybe* Vegas/Grand Canyon/Cali trip in July 2020 but nothing in stone....

Cards:
Me - Chase Freedom 4/2016, CSP 1/2018, SPG Amex 2/2018, Chase Ink Business 6/2018, Capital One Venture 8/2018 (hit bonus today)
Hubby - Citi Toro CC 1/2018, Chase IHG 2/2018, CSP 4/2018, SPG Amex 4/2018, Capital One Venture 6/2018

I just sent my husband the referral link for Chase Ink Business card, and he's going to open an account at Chase this month for the $500 bonus, but not sure what direction I should go....thoughts? And yes, I'll be using referral links to apply as a thank you because this group is the best! :P

Fun Discussion Question:
Which "churning high" do you find best/most exhilarating?
1) Approved for the card (you like me, you really like me!)
2) Receiving the card (yay the mail is here!)
3) Meeting the MSR (i.e. completing the last purchase to finish the MSR!)
4) Seeing the bonus points post/go pending (whew...they didn't shut me down or use the T&Cs against me, lol)
5) Redeeming the points (not the physical act of traveling, rather the on paper act of redeeming, lol)

Any thoughts??? Figured this might be a fun discussion for our group here :)
#4 followed by #1

I love seeing the points go pending. I don’t like meeting MSRs or spending my points. I just like to see them there! And, of course, who doesn’t love getting approved!?! Whether instant approval from Amex or checking the phone line with chase every hour, it’s a rush once you know you are approved.
