RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

After a long while I have found one (1) bright side to this: I now get to observe three days of precedent before my trip. Will the new rule become a 5:30 opening with BGs gone by 7:30, or will the 6:30 open hold fast? We'll know soon...

I work until 1:30 AM, so I'll have the whole thread to review over breakfast tomorrow.
The way things are going, the data might not be useful in 3 days lol

Woodys lunchbox has not been opening until official park opening so 8am. I know because we tried to get our favourite holiday special - the cinnamon apple tarts!

I've been giving some thought to the effect MMRR is going to have on crowds at DHS. Obviously it wont have the same pull as RotR, but it will undoubtedly cause a big jump attendance on top of an already huge increase. We'll have RotR traffic colliding with MMRR traffic, and guests trying to do both. I hope the park can handle it!

DHS is finally getting its renaissance.

So, who will be there tomorrow (Thursday) morning for the first day of 7am open?

I’ll be there Friday morning, so I’m hoping people will post stats from tomorrow so I can judge how stupid-early I need to drag myself over to DHS from YC.

I’m hoping that the speculation is correct that the new 7am open is just a technicality to better reflect the 6:30 open that’s been happening all week, and that a 6am arrival will still be okay. (Because 5am is really gonna hurt, but I’ll do it if I absolutely have to.)

I hope someone will be there tomorrow too and can enlighten us. We will be at Epcot tomorrow but plan on going to DHS on Friday as well.

When waiting in line to get into the park at HS, is there a special wheelchair line you have to use if you have an ECV? I don't want to get there early and end up waiting in the wrong area.

I've been wondering about MMRR opening off and on as well, since it is so soon - thinking that maybe at that time, you may well have to get a boarding group for ROTR and MMRR... or maybe they would have you choose between them! At the very least you'd have to think about which one to click on first.

There was not a separate line for ECVs. Before security opens there was the "no bag" line and then on the other side, several lines for folks with bags, including strollers and ECVs. After security, it seemed any line was fine.

Ok, thanks!

Anyone have reports on taking kids on that are just at the required 40" height with shoes on? I've read that Disney's height measurements seem to fluctuate slightly between rides. I'll prepare my kid for disappointment either way.

Our daughter is 40 inches without shoes on. She was measured outside of the entrance to the ride today. It seemed pretty standard procedure, same as other rides we took her on where she'd get checked at entrance and prior to boarding. I haven't noticed any differences/inconsistencies in the way she measures up against any of the 40 inch height rides.

I missed the point about wifi. Better to use Disney or not?

Also, does it matter how big your party is when joining a boarding group? We are a group of 8 and lots of times when booking FP, I have to split us up to get them. Any point in trying that here, or should I just sign all 8 of us up at once (we will all be there)?

Laurie

We were a group of 4. As soon as we were all tapped in I tried to get a boarding group. 3 of us were recognized as in the park but my daughter was not showing as in park. Took a few extra minutes/retries/restarting the app. Had walked over to a cast member at that time to get advice and she recommended trying to restart the app and reminding that it can sometimes take up to 5 minutes for it to recognize it. As we were there right at park opening I think those few extra retries moved us about 4 or 5 boarding groups out.

I imagine that with a group of 8 it could be a bit more stressful but definitely doable.

You might have a hiccup in getting all 8 people recognized but hopefully that should just take a few minutes to clear. If it's likely you'll be cutting it close in terms of boarding group availability, could be better to split that up with another person who can wrangle their group of 4, while you wrangle your group of 4.

I have read elsewhere that completely closing and then re-starting the app is the way to go in this situation. I have a prepaid-service smartphone with pretty basic features and constantly have trouble with Disney wifi, even in allegedly 'strong' wifi zones. It will be data all the way next month. In my case, the MLK weekend will make it even more challenging, but I'm hoping for a slight edge over people who didn't research it and have to burn a couple of minutes figuring out how to grab a BG.

My parents went on December 10th. They got to the gate at Hollywood Studios about 6:45 AM and got boarding group 30. Then they did all 3 rides in Toy Story Land and waited 10 minutes to get on Tower of Terror. At 8:28 their group was called and they went to get in line. At 9:16 they had made it to the room with all the Storm Troopers when the ride shut down and they got a paper fastpass. At 10:58 they redeemed their fastpass and sent me pics of the entire ride at 11:33.
