The ABCs of a New 'Ohana Adventure-G is for: Greetings From Teppan, Good-Byes, and Good News!!! - COMPLETED 1/7

Oh boy that's me if I ride two times in a row usually :scared:

It seems the older I get the worse rides mess with my body. Who would have ever guessed?! 🤣

This is wonderful  The whole day and night! I can't imagine my kids not seeing my mom for 2 years and my grandparents all lived right behind us growing up so I saw them constantly; however we haven't seen my sister and her 2 oldest now in over a year and I hate it. So happy this worked out this way!

It's definitely been a huge bummer living so far away from my folks and other family. I wish my kids could have gotten to spend a lot more time with them. I'm hoping that may change in the next couple (few?) years.

I adore Animal Kingdom, too! It makes me so sad when people still refer to it as a halfday park because I could spend endless time there!

I think those people miss the point of what the park is. It's a place to explore and slow down. If your aim is to only ride a few rides and you aren't wanting to just see and discover, it's not the park for you. And sadly those folks will miss out on some truly beautiful and quality theming.

That's pretty hilarious. I wouldn't take him on the Budweisers either, but only because I can't drink their beers!! Something in their brewing process doesn't agree with me. BUT, this did remind me of a few summers ago. We were hanging out beside the pool at Pop Century and a lady with her family, clearly headed home from their trip, offered us a plastic bag full of fruity wine coolers. We took them and enjoyed them the rest of our afternoon. Afterward, we laughed thinking about how nowhere else in our regular life would we just accept a bag of drinks from a stranger!! But, somehow at Disney World it seemed OK!?!

I agree!! LOL!! We've both given and received stuff from other people and it's totally okay!! There's even a FB group and a DIS group I think for giving away stuff. Better than throwing it away.

What a special surprise! Gave me goosebumps and reminded me how wonderful it is to share Disney trips with loved ones.
I did have to laugh at your dad's comment over the beer and his nosing around the food. I can see the selections at Sanaa being outside a picky eater's comfort zone. (I haven't even attempted the restaurant with my grumpy son...)
Your TOL nighttime photos are gorgeous. Makes me wish I was back there right at this moment. :goodvibes

Awww, I'm glad it was a nice feel good story that I could share. I don't get to see my folks nearly enough, but hopefully that'll change soon. We'll see where things lead over the next couple of years.

Sanaa does have flavors and ingredients some folks aren't used to. But there is a chicken and a steak meal that I think most would be comfortable with.

I miss it too. This is mostly a year off of Disney for me, as I focus on other trips and my BIG one to Italy and Greece. :)

Quite Quintessential!
Quoth the Queen.
One can only hope.

Assuming there's no brain damage.
:rolleyes2
Okay, I'd agree with all of that actually. Although, what you describe I find more attractive. Just a personal preference, but that is not at all to say I don't like MK too.
Best part about Disney. Something for everyone. :)
I have heard a rumour she is leaving or gone. I have no confirmation of that, but that's the word on the street. Sad day!
Nooooooo!!!
I telephoto'd a little. But not much. He was pretty close in this one. The fact that he got his lazy butt up was pretty awesome enough.
Cool!
Yes, I mean the "let the stragglers in" process could literally go on for hours. All day long, in fact.
::yes::

And... the show must go on... that means without someone walking in front of you because they showed up 10 minutes late.
I like Nemo too, but WAY better than any of the DHS shows.
DHS doesn't have any shows.

:rolleyes1
Yeah, yeah. Okay, got a previous day's photos mixed in. Sue me.
What're ya worth?
Yes, but I imangine the Skyliner is going to be a game changer there for some situations.
::yes::
I used to be able to do that before I got old and fat.
I've seen you. You're neither.
It was a sealed can of beer. What could possibly go wrong?
Covid-19
I think they were all so charmingly shocked. It was definitely a great family moment.
:goodvibes

Quoth the Queen.

Correct!

DHS doesn't have any shows.

:rolleyes1

Frozen Sing a long? Beauty and the Beast? Little Mermaid? Indiana Jones?
What're ya worth?
LOL! Not a heck of a lot right now.

I've seen you. You're neither.

I feel it.

I think from what I read it only lasts on surfaces for like 30 seconds. That beer sat that for a LONG time.

Quips: “Woot!”
Frozen Sing a long? Beauty and the Beast? Little Mermaid? Indiana Jones?
Don’t think of Indy as a show. More an attraction.
But did forget about Frozen. That’s good. ::yes::
As for the rest... DHS doesn’t have any shows. (Other than Frozen.)
I think from what I read it only lasts on surfaces for like 30 seconds. That beer sat that for a LONG time.
Oh really? Had no idea.

I stayed behind where I was and stayed dry there until the shower passed. I wasn’t in a hurry and was perfectly content to savor the details of this lovely trail with the most perfect backstory.

So are the bats back yet/

I’ll bet you didn’t know it was called the Anandapur Rail Service

Actually I did. Back when it opened and lines extended through the entire queue and FPs hadn't been invented yet, I waited in the line. I read every little display just to keep myself amused. Somewhere in the queue it talks about the Anandapur Rail Service.

Time for some grub and what better than some snackages from 8 Spoons and Flame Tree?

I'm bummed. I totally meant to try 8 Spoons and forgot about it again! There was even a perfect time that we didn't have any plans and ended up somewhere else. :headache:

I also felt a tiny smidge badly for another family that had FiPs for the show but were 15 minutes late. The rules for when you have to be in line for shows are pretty clearly communicated, as are the areas where to line up, so I didn’t feel badly for too long.

No need, unlike RotR, Disney is pretty up front with things like shows and timing.

Gimme a break; I’m old and my memory grows dim, I’ve only had one cup of think-sharpening coffee this morning, and this TR is as old as dirt like me. <goes to make a 2nd cup the Elixer of Life>

I don't know how you can drink more than one cup. I'd never get to sleep at night. Then again, my one cup is a pretty big one.

I needed to make a phone call in a place the kids wouldn’t hear me. Because I had a gigantic surprise up my sleeve.

This surprising kids seems to be a thing on the DIS recently.

I did not know myself until the Tuesday before we left that Friday that my folks had decided to come down to WDW for a couple of days and they asked me to keep it a secret from the kids. I did and they were shocked to tears.

That's very sweet. It seems whether young kids or big kids, grandparents are always a pleasant surprise.

I’d always heard of the “Opening Ceremony” at Sanaa, but had never had the pleasure of getting to see it. But this evening, with fortunate timing and circumstances, we did.

I had no idea that there was an "Opening Ceremony"!

And I found some details in the restaurant I'd not noticed before. The ceiling is fashioned after leaves!

Hey that's pretty cool! I don't know when I'll be back there, I hope I remember to look.

No one goes to Sanaa without getting the Bread Service (you've seen it a thousand times). So, we did.

I have. Then again I'm weird.

The kids, as of yet, hadn’t seen Pandora or the TOL at night, and we spent quite a long time wandering around from the time the nightlife of Pandora woke up until we found ourselves too tired to keep on keepin’ on.

Sounds like a long day!

Hopefully an update this weekend. We shall see...
Well, sadly, My Friendlies.... an update just didn't happen this weekend. I wasn't able to be on at all last weekend which put me WAY behind in reading all your threads and that, while very enjoyable to read them all, zapped the time I had. :) Having said that, I hope that next weekend I can find the time to edit some photos and write something worth reading.

On a personal note, my surgery set me behind financially and I have racked up a bit of debt that well.... everyone has their own opinions and philosophies regarding debt but to me it feels like a gigantic millstone around my neck and until it's eliminated I am trying to work every spare hour I can to get it all paid off. I still owe about $2,500 on my cruise and while I did find a one way ticket to Rome for under $400, I still have to figure out if and where I might spend a few extra days in Europe and where to fly home from.

I am SUPER wanting to visit @Flossbolna and end my trip in Germany, but a co-worker is begging me to visit Croatia and end there. Time and the Covid-19 will tell.... As of right now, my dream of visiting Venice and taking the train through the Alps from Milan to Munich is off the table and I don't want to wait too much longer to plan the rest of my itinerary. Meantime, I'm working 6 days a week at 2 jobs (Saturdays I've picked up On-Call Shifts in the recovery room for extra $$). My hope is that in a few more months this debt (new car, surgery bills, cruise, and boosting my way-too-low savings/emergency account) will be a thing of the past.

I humbly apologize to those that I couldn't multi-quote this time around. I love reading your threads and am sad I just don't have a lot of time now for better writing on my own thread and to give your threads the time and attention they deserve.

Are there any peeps out there who have been reading mine that have a thread going that I didn't see? Please PM me if so!!

And with that, have a wonderful week, Everyone.

Don't fret about not being able to multi-quote or being able to post an update every week. We all just appreciate you popping in to say hello and keeping us up to date with your daily life and vacation adventures. Speaking of, 400 for an international flight is a steal! That's awesome.
I completely support the Germany addition to your post-cruise/Italy portion of the trip. I miss that beautiful country.
Fingers crossed there are no more travel restrictions on the places you intend to visit. The current closures have wreaked havoc on a lot of my community's Spring Break plans.
If you end up having a layover or short stay in the U.K. let me know! :goodvibes

Happy to see you around here whenever the time allows, but completely understand the need to focus on real life/work/debt, etc more!

I don't think you've popped in on the TR I just got going on, but it's the first one here in my signature! :)

Wow, that's a lot of bills to pay. I am the same way with debt. I tend to try and get rid of it as fast as humanly possible.

Hang in there! Hope you can get rest as needed. I know it's hard.

Well, sadly, My Friendlies.... an update just didn't happen this weekend.
That's okay. I get that life can get in the way. You have to put things in perspective... some things can wait... some can't.
I have racked up a bit of debt that well.... everyone has their own opinions and philosophies regarding debt but to me it feels like a gigantic millstone around my neck and until it's eliminated I am trying to work every spare hour I can to get it all paid off.
I get that. I'm not fond of debt, either. I don't pay credit card debt if at all humanly possible and I shake my head in wonder at those who do. Yes, sometimes circumstances can dictate the necessity, but those who do it willingly, or deliberately... :sad2:
I am SUPER wanting to visit @Flossbolna and end my trip in Germany, but a co-worker is begging me to visit Croatia and end there.
I love Germany, but have never been to Croatia. I have no idea what to expect there. Beauty and abundance or poverty and pollution. No clue!
Time and the Covid-19 will tell....
:sad2:
I'm not a huge fan of this virus... Just sayin'.
Meantime, I'm working 6 days a week at 2 jobs
Yikes! I thought I had it rough!

Well, sadly, My Friendlies.... an update just didn't happen this weekend.

I know the feeling!

On a personal note, my surgery set me behind financially and I have racked up a bit of debt that well....

I'm sorry about that, but at least you have a plan.

I am SUPER wanting to visit @Flossbolna and end my trip in Germany, but a co-worker is begging me to visit Croatia and end there.

Personally I'd probably go with the friend over new territory, but that's me. I tend to be a little clingy and not so adventurous.

Time and the Covid-19 will tell....

Yeah, about that....

Fingers crossed! I'm sure you can do it!

R is for: Ristorante Maria and Enzo’s with a side of Disney Springs

We have a fair bit to go, Dear Readers, with our Disney Adventures. Not to mention, I haven’t even gotten to my Uni portion yet, so bear with me as we trudge on. I hope you are not getting bogged down with reading this drivel and still find some level of entertainment as we hop, skip, and jump from place to place.

This particular update seems coincidentally relevant as I watch my cruise and trip to Italy possibly go up in smoke. Italy’s on my mind. So is the trip insurance I just added. :rolleyes2 More than a little bit glad I did that. So, yeah, this update directly ties into that trip scheduled for September… but we’ll get to that. First, let’s stroll a little….

After we got all checked into the Poly and had a day at the pool, and I swear we’re gonna get to that, we headed to The Springs, affectionately still called DTD by the diehards.

(Might be my new favorite DTD photo.)

We had a couple of hours to kill which is an unfortunate euphemism to use as you’ll see in a minute. My kids’ most firmly planted memory of DTD, as with many of yours I imagine, is of the Lego Store. Heck, it’s also one of mine. The oversized creations still rock my 10-year old self, and I could spend quite a while just browsing and geeking out. So we did. *Photo overload imminent*

(I was just getting into this series so this was super fun to see.)

I was having a ball, until it happened. I got one of those kinds of “cramps”. You know what I’m talking about… it’s the kind that makes you break out in a sweat, wonder what foul thing you ingested to make your knees weak, and to start looking for a place to die in agonized glory, writhing in tachycardic panic. Waves of faintness washed over me as I ran from the store in search of the nearest private place to suffer. Yes, I literally wondered if I’d make it without having to purchase a $500 Disney set of new clothing. (I usually save that for nights I wine pair. The clothes buying part that is.) Luckily, there is a restroom next door to Amorette’s just by the Lego Store and for the next… while, I sat contemplating the meaning of life and planning my funeral.

After 5 eternities, it passed.

I weakly made my way into Amorette’s and asked for some water, told the cashier I wasn’t feeling well, found a table to sit at without passing out, and sipped my water. I texted the kids, who still sucked at not hearing their phones, and slowly recovered from whatever sudden scourge I had. I am guessing…. just an educated guess… that I had become somewhat dehydrated and had lost enough electrolytes that it caused the cramps and other “unfortunate” symptoms, weakness, etc… and needed to simply replace them. In which case water wasn’t really the cure. Sure, it’d help, but I also needed some salts. What better place than at a Disney restaurant where salt is king? Pro-tip: Don’t be an idiot like me. Stay hydrated so you can play longer.

(Apparently, I was just enough better to take a picture of the Fall dome cake. )

Luckily, I was able to avoid an embarrassing EMS encounter, or worse, and made my way back to the Lego Store where my kids were obliviously engaged in making cool stuff while their mother was dying. No big deal.

Even after a perilous encounter with the Grim Reaper I can find the desire to stuff my face with Italian food. This was another new place for me and I’m here to give you all details of our experience here. You can find Maria and Enzo’s over near the Edison, STK, etc… Along the way, you might run into some street entertainment. Clearly she was happy that I was alive and well enough to spend a day’s worth of salary on another meal in Disney.

Maria and Enzo’s has a cute backstory that makes sense once inside. According to sources such as this one:

https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando...sney-springs-italian-restaurant-trio-and.html

Maria and Enzo are very successful restauranteurs who make the most of their 3 dining locations, Enzo's Hideaway, Maria and Enzo's, and Pizza Ponte. Their Italian restaurant, located in a converted air terminal is really well done in a retro, Art Deco style. I love the bright, open space with the travel poster art lining the walls. Even more, I love that it is staffed with real Italians.

We were seated in an exceptional booth along a mirrored wall that helped us enjoy a less crowded and stuffy feeling experience. Nothing at all was pretentious or upscale about this place, but it was far more than a cafeteria-style atmosphere as well. Our server was very friendly and had the most delicious accent. She was training another young lady who was charged with pouring waters, removing wine glasses etc… The menu is pretty straight forward with standard Italian fare:

https://allears.net/dining/menu/maria-enzo/lunch-dinner/

As a group we decided on 3 main dishes, one of which I don’t see on the menu anymore. My kids are weird and actually love eggplant, so we got an order of Eggplant Parmesan:

this:

Torchio al Pollo- Spiral-shaped Pasta, Roasted Chicken Ragu, Toasted Garlic, Parmesan Cream Sauce $26.00

and:

Pollo alla Parmigiana- Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast, topped with Tomato Sauce, Fior di Latte Mozzarella, and Parmigiano-Reggiano $31.00

All 3 were slightly above average and certainly filling. None of the dishes were greasy, over salted, or lacking in flavor and, in general, we all enjoyed our meal in terms of food. Clearly, the presentation could use a little work.

Our server convinced us to be skeptical of how far these would go and we caved to the suggested up-sell with a side order of spaghetti which was DEFINTELY sub-par. Dry and bland could best describe it. We could have definitely done without the extra $8 charge and I’d have happily spent that money on a glass of wine. And should have… except I almost died in a bathroom stall an hour before this.

Just as our meal was served, that we ate family style from the extra plates our servers brought, a violinist strolled down the stairs to serenade the tables. When he made our way to our table, we encouraged him to linger by requesting some out of the ordinary, non-Disney selections. Sorry to anyone who was thrust from their Disney bubble while he played Mikki’s request of Vivaldi, Anara’s request of Lord of the Rings, and the one other tune that I can’t remember what was right now. His time was well rewarded with a sizable tip. And I’d pay it again in a New York minute as it really added to the overall enjoyment of our meal.

Towards the end of our time in Maria and Enzo’s a balloon artist arrived and was certainly doing enough business to pay his bills. We watched him make a ton of animals for tables with kids and even made a birthday crown for a lady in the group of older adults sitting next to us. That probably made up for an entire tray of full wine glasses a different server spilled just after he left. Not gonna lie, that was a colossal show in and of itself. I can assure you management was very present.

Now here is why my visit to M&Es is perfectly relevant to my trip and current world events. During the course of the evening, our server joked a bit about making sure we "Fare la scarpetta" 'd. In Italian that means to sop up the sauces and “finish” the meal using the bread. That got me to talking about my dream of one day visiting Italy. This was before I had committed to the Italy and Greek Isles Cruise with Karilynn. (I think?) Anyhow, I asked her if she could mention any special places I should visit in Italy that were “off the beaten path”. She exclaimed, “Come to MY village!!”. She told me of 2 places and I knew for certain I’d never remember them, so had her write them down on a piece of paper for me. I saved them, and just last week researched them both.

When or if my trip happens, I will almost for sure will visit one or both. Words cannot even begin to describe how completely excited I am to visit this place especially.

(Alberobello)

I mean…. WOW!!!!

That unique architecture is only found in that particuar region of Puglia, Italy and are called "Trulli". Fantastico! No? The punchlineis that this absolutely unique and wonderful place would never have been on my radar at all had I not had that Providential encounter with that CM.

I hope by September this out-of-control situation, all politics and TP hoarding bologna aside, is over and our cruise will go on as planned (and almost paid off). While my immune system could, my nerves can’t handle it.

We were far too full for dessert and ended up taking “home” the entire order of spaghetti we didn’t need. We settled up our bill and the kids were antsy to head out ahead of me for some reason that I cannot remember at the time. Maybe for Anara to hat shop? I wandered to the back towards the bathrooms, used them, (no surprise there), and found some interesting art and photographs that nicely supported the storyline of the restaurant. Antique images of the glory days of luxury airline travel lined the walls and this amazing Edison-style fixture caught my eye.

(Super blurry, sorry! But included it to give you more of an idea.)

When done admiring the decor, I stopped a manager-looking type and told him I was looking for the speakeasy "secret entrance" I'd heard rumors about.

"Oh, I think you're looking for this door.", as he led me to an obscure door in that area. Thanking him, I popped through not knowing where exactly it'd spit me out, and found myself looking at this:

Anyhow, Maria and Enzo’s? Here are my thoughts:

Now… don’t get me wrong. I absolutely would not dissuade anyone from going to Maria and Enzo’s.

But!

For much better Italian FOOD at The Springs, my recommendation would be for Terralina. For sure! But here is where M&E’s has an edge.

I love that the staff is Italian. It added to my personal overall enjoyment because it made the backstory of the place come alive. Disney for me takes me from my ordinary, everyday life into a fantasy of sorts where, sure it’s not real, but it is different. M&E’s has some live entertainment that adds something more to the meal and that certainly has value. It is a brighter and more casual feeling which I think might be better for families. Terralina, on the other hand, has outdoor, waterside seating which is nice, and has a more romantic feel to it. As mentioned, it also beats out M&Es for food quality. Perhaps it is like comparing apples to oranges with seeds being the only likeness, but those are my thoughts on both.

A word on this TR. I was taking stock on the material I still have to cover, should there be continued interest in reading. Some of those chapters would include: Teppan Edo, Spice Road Table, Wilderness Lodge, Droid building, some Food and Wine stuff, my entire Universal trip, the Poly, more AK stuff (cuz you just can’t get enough of that), and other misc stuff. There is no trip for me planned right now, as I’ve chosen to take the year off and travel to other places. But, I love the writing process, this TR gets me to edit my photos, keeps me connected with my friends, all of you whom I consider to be such, and it’s something to do while I am on-call these weekends. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I appreciate all of you who continue to stick with me and find this trip report still worthy of paying attention to. I hope that you find the material interesting, relevant, and enjoyable to read. Thank you!

Since I chose to stay here in the hospital rather than go home and risk not being able to get here in my 30-minute show up agreement, I have nothing but quiet and time to write and edit, I am actually hoping I can even get another chapter up today. We shall see… 😊 I live just over that 30-minute drive and there is always the chance I could get called in... more than once. It’s just not worth it to go home and have to turn right back around. So, I’ve got my pillow, my blankie, my overnight bag and a hospital-sized stash of TP. And since apparently that’s all you need to be prepared for a respiratory virus I’m all good.

I'd agree. Beauty and the Beast more than sucks and the Little Mermaid might be even worse.
Oh really? Had no idea.

I stand corrected. It's somewhere between a few hours and a few days. Apparently not even our CDC knows? It doesn't matter. I can't stop biting my nails for more than 10 minutes. So basically I'm doomed to a fever and cough eventually.

So are the bats back yet/

No, not yet. They were still being trained to be on display for some reason or other? But not quite yet, but the CM said very soon. Meanwhile, she (the CM) was interacting heavilly with guests with learning activities and stuff about them.

Actually I did. Back when it opened and lines extended through the entire queue and FPs hadn't been invented yet, I waited in the line. I read every little display just to keep myself amused. Somewhere in the queue it talks about the Anandapur Rail Service.

I think I've been through the SB line a couple of times in the early morning for a ride or two before FPs and there is such interesting stuff in there!

I'm bummed. I totally meant to try 8 Spoons and forgot about it again! There was even a perfect time that we didn't have any plans and ended up somewhere else. :headache:

I guess. But I never thought I'd be one who'd do it. LOL!

That's very sweet. It seems whether young kids or big kids, grandparents are always a pleasant surprise.

They truly are. :goodvibes

I had no idea that there was an "Opening Ceremony"!

I can't remember where I'd read that a few years ago, but it's kinda cool. I think more restaurants at Disney should do this. It might even persaude more people to dine earlier, alleviating some of the prime time "crush".

Hey that's pretty cool! I don't know when I'll be back there, I hope I remember to look.

Yep, gotta look up! :)

I am holding off for a while on buying a return ticket or making any more plans on my trip right now. It's just not worth it and the worry. Instead I'm looking at where I want to go and making mock itineraries. Slowly. Nothing for certain at all yet.

As of now there ARE travel restrictions everywhere. So, just... hanging out. Who knows, maybe I'll have mandatory week or two off and be able to sleep and plan and catch up. Too bad I might not get paid. :( Travel is the least of my worries.

Happy to see you around here whenever the time allows, but completely understand the need to focus on real life/work/debt, etc more!

I don't think you've popped in on the TR I just got going on, but it's the first one here in my signature! :)
HI Jackie!! I just subbed in and will read it, along with all the others, tomorrow. First... a need a little nap and have some other things I need to do today. :)
