If the flattening isn't working is it time to face reality?

He should have said it and done it.
Yeah. I definitely see your point. I go back and forth on all this. It is just such a horrible and complicated experience for everyone. I understand the Netherlands were going the herd immunity route, but I have not seen much reporting on how that is going.

The bill has been agreed upon, it hasn’t been passed. I wouldn’t count any chickens before they hatch.
I agree, but it has the approval of over 90% of those in the house and senate. It will pass. The only question is whether or not the house will have to reconvene to get it done.

Did this country's economy not eventually rebound from a decade-long depression? Why do we assume such a thing won't ever be possible again? The worry about this situation is valid, and obviously no one wants the current situation to mirror that one, but there is actual historical evidence that it's possible for an economy to repair after a drastic turmoil. It wasn't even that long ago. Our grandparents were there. Some people's parents were there!

Well, it was 80-90 years ago so those who were old enough to remember it are few. But we have a roadmap for recovery. Go to war. That is what I am worried will happen after the dust settles.

Well, back then, we weren't constantly already at war. So hopefully that is not the roadmap this time. Plus, I think the national view of war might've changed since then.

Either way. It's a thing that has happened in not so distant memory.

Yep. Your thoughts match mine. It is tough to figure out the right course of action now. You just know the Monday morning quarterbacks are going to jump all over him and criticize his every move when this is over.

It’s great that you have such confidence but until it actually passes no one should hang their hat on it. These things have a way of disintegrating. I’ll believe it when I see it and not before.

My daughter had a doctor come through her drive thru on Saturday with 6 scripts one for each member of his family...she asked him if anyone had any symptoms and he said no that he was just getting prepared in case they needed it. She refused him and he told her that he could call the VA Pharmacy board and have her license....her response to him was to just "try to do that" as she had the authority as the PIC to refuse these scripts because she has patients who have lupus and RA whose immune systems are compromised and need that drug much more that this doctor. He drove off in a huff!
Crazy! But interesting that he apparently believed enough in the “science” of it to try to get some for himself and his family. :scratchin

Rebounding isn't the same as saying we're all good no worries everything is good to go. That's why I said we're a nation that chugs along because we do. But we still have lingering effectives from the Recession, our behaviors (towards money, towards gasoline reliance on cars, on housing to an extent, on businesses, etc) have been altered. 9/11 for sure altered our behaviors. Anyone who flies knows that, not to mention some hatred towards certain people became more prevalent and our worldview of threats to us became a realistic reality for many.

There's something to be said for certain positive features of large events, like the push for electric cars rather than gasoline only when gas pricing was $4+ per gallon and barely anyone could afford to travel far during and up to several years after, people may have newfound appreciation for xyz after this whole virus thing ebbs but we don't tend to go back to the way things were before as if the event never happened, there's things that change for us collectively forever and trying to gloss over that isn't fair IMO.

Also wanted to add that my DH got his “essential employee travel letter” from his company yesterday and I was quite impressed with it! It referenced at least three state and federal policies outlining why what they do is essential. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I’m accustomed to traveling with my own disaster pass which is simply the back of my hospital ID. At any rate, he’s keeping one copy in his car (and one at home) and he also took a picture of it to have on his phone.

Of course. I'm not glossing over changes. To me, rebound means you get back up and get back at it. Not that you go back to exactly once was. If we didn't evolve and adapt to new challenges, that would be very concerning, but we do.

That's been my point. Most will rebound, but everyone has different circumstances. Not everybody is young enough to have the time to rebound.

No I wasn't referencing you saying you were glossing over :flower3: . Just sorta the viewpoint shared by at least some.

I agree on your outlook on rebounding, that just wasn't how it was being spoken about (not with you though) in regards to earlier conversations.

Assuming a family of four, that would be a one time payment of $3400. How long do you think that will last? A month? MAYBE two? Don't get me wrong, it will help. But saying "ok, everyone is getting this one check, the economy is fine!" is very naive. And how long will it take to see these checks?

And for my family of four, only I would get a check. Both of my brothers are disabled and my DS 23 is a student.

is it interesting or just a result of desparate clinging to something he hoped would work bc someone keeps talking about it in every press conference. I know a dentist who tried to call in scripts for him and his wife and my pharma friend refused him bc lupus patients can't get their meds.
