Both come with living wills for both of us. The only difference is choosing between a last will or a living trust. Honestly it all kind of goes over my head

You need a last will to name guardians for your kids. A living will is a written statement detailing a person's desires regarding their medical treatment in circumstances in which they are no longer able to express informed consent, especially an advance directive. Not the same as a last will. From googling- most people use living trusts to avoid probate. But living trusts are more complicated to make, and you can't use a living trust to name an executor or guardians for your children. You need a will to do those things. So I think you need the Last will regardless.

Are you sure a living will allows for guardianship decisions? Could be, ours just has our wishes for medical care for us. That is a very important thing at this point to get provisions for the baby.

I was just responding to Haley's question. I wouldn't personally have a trust for any reason, after seeing some of the stuff lawyers convinced my in-laws to do, and then my sister-in-law much of it undone a few years later. We have wills, financial POAs, and living wills through an elder law atty.

I wasn't responding to you so much as adding on 😊

🤦‍♀️ I had it set to 3 adults and 2 children so no values were showing up for my weekend. Now I know why the 5th sleeper rooms were showing up top for POR and CBR lol

Can an air mattress fit in Pop, Little Mermaid or an All Star resort? If so, this would definitely make sense for us. I might be willing to go Coronado or POFQ if I can get an air mattress in there.
Last year we used an air mattress at Pop and at Coronado. It fit in both between the door and the bed. At both places the angle of the door caused one corner to be squished - pop a bit more squished than Coronado. At both places, my son slept just fine. I didn't like Coronado the resort too much - too big and spread out and I didn't find the buildings particularly appealing to look at but the rooms were really nice. The restaurant in the center of the lake was awesome - it had opened that week and the prices were great. Cocktails and food were the most reasonably priced for any restaurant on disney property that we have been to and the food serving size and quality was beyond what Disney had trained us to accept.

We now are basically sheltering in place in VA for 9 more weeks. Ugh.
Apparently the beaches were packed yesterday. Sandbridge ( locals and vacation rental beach) is part of my Nextdoor app and many people were very upset that so many people were there. I also heard the resort area was very busy too. We went for a drive to get out of the house yesterday and Sandbridge Road traffic looked like summer tourist traffic. I’m sure the mayor said HELP to the governor.

Yes. A good elder law attorney is vital.

On topic... I'm seriously debating jumping at the 80K CIP offer before it disappears maybe forever (is it even still an option?), but we're also seriously considering a refi and have already been in contact with our broker about it. Just waiting for the rates to drop a little more. Soooo I'll probably refrain. But man, that potential 1K would be handy right now.
It is still an option. I'm disappointed I didn't follow through with refinancing a few weeks ago when NavyFed had rates listed at 2.5%

I finally focused on our credit cards. We've never downgraded or canceled a card. I've been looking online for advice on what to do but I want to verify here first:
CIP - wait for one year and then downgrade to a CIU, annual fee (2nd year) will be refunded. I can do this with a private message.
Barclay Aviator Business - Is calling the only way to cancel? This is a definite cancel for us, not sure what is the timeline to avoid paying a 2nd annual fee.
AmEx Plat - I want to keep this, will call for a retention offer. This is my only AmEx so I'm willing to live with it another year until I have something else to put spend on to avoid a popup.
AA personal and business cards - I think I will cancel our business cards unless I'm missing some reason to keep them as the personal have the luggage perks as well. Do I have to call or do they have a message system? Their website is down for me.

CIP - yes, you wait a year and downgrade to whatever Ink card u want. it will refund for the 2nd year. you will most likely have to call(if i recall correctly). U can try SM first, but i think in the past, they want u to call.
Amex Plat - ur likely to get a retention offer, the norm was 50k with no spendings for awhile, im not sure if its still there. i know some ppl get that with some spendings but lot of DPs where they got that for free. remember if u get it for free, ur likely to receive a 1099 for 2020
AA peronal and biz card - depending on what type of hacker you are, many ppl converted these into CitiDC and other Citi Cards. might be worth thinking of doing if u MS.

Agree with Albort - have to call to downgrade CIP to CIU (and it needs a $5000 CL to do this). I had lowered my CL to $2000 so the rep had to upgrade to $5000 first, then did the PC.

for the CIP yes wait 1 year...to downgrade you need to call

Tonight I had to cook so I've got Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls simmering on the stove.

The recipe is whatever I have available, and feel like throwing in there.

Will serve with rice.

Governor Hogan and Governor Northam must have gotten together. We are under a stay at home order now. Ours is effective tonight. Virginia went into effect earlier today. Our governor says you can go fishing. We had a cell phone alert, so everyone should have gotten the message. It's not any different from what we've already been doing. Still can go for groceries, prescriptions, and other essential activities. The document is online.
Since there are so many federal workers in this area, they are afraid it will affect the function of federal government. There is a fine $5000 and a 1 year jail sentence. And Muriel Bowser, the DC mayor just added DC to the stay at home.

Meanwhile, in Charles County, Maryland a guy has been arrested for throwing a bonfire party at his home that 65 people attended. What an idiot.

I was told they couldn't even transfer me to the retention department because I don't have any offers. I guess I'll cancel.
You could always try again to see if you get someone more cooperative. The first rep had to transfer me to someone else when I asked if there was anything they could do to help offset the fee. That rep thought I just wanted to cancel and was about to read me the disclosure. I stopped her and asked if there were any offers or incentives to keep the card. She came back with a "$40 good will credit."

So close the beaches.

Yeah, it's not any different for me. I'm only going out for groceries. But to me it seems like I won't be allowed back to work for 9 more weeks. That's such a long time. I'm working from home and am able to be productive (glad my kids are older). There's just something psychological about being told we've got 9 more weeks of this.

Wow! Nine more weeks...2 months...This is going to get way bigger than we could have ever imagined. It’s all ready bigger than I could have imagined.
I am shocked. I can see through 4/30 but this really caught me off guard.
I'm expecting normal movement won't resume until June 1 at the earliest.

We got the MD alert on our phones (live in DE).

Last week when I was walking after dinner I passed a house with a good 20 cars parked outside. People were spilling out into the front yard. I was thankful to be across the street.

I know we recently talked about wills so I’m sorry that I’m gonna bring them back up again. Dh and I decided we’re gonna use legal zoom. They have combo packs where you choose between last will or living trust. Dh said he wants to do the living trust so I thought I’d ask for input on here if anyone has ever used legal zoom before. Both combos come with power of attorney and living wills. The only difference is deciding between last will or living trust. What do some of you think?

Ahem *dusts off estate planning/probate legal assistant soapbox* :mic:

Really, none of us here can responsibly advise you without knowing more about your personal assets, future plans, local tax laws, etc., plus having a solid knowledge of what the estate/probate laws are in your area. I can tell you that DH and I have simple wills that do not set up any trusts because that would be introducing more complications than it's worth for our assets (savings + checking, house, retirement, personal effects/vehicles) and probate in Texas is not that scary or bad. But I don't know about probate in Florida. Maybe it makes sense to put your assets in a trust based on how you expect your financial outlook to change in the next 10-20 years. Also, my attorney uses a Declaration of Guardian to appoint guardians for minors - they aren't named in the Last Will. I don't know if that's a personal preference or something that has legal reasoning behind it. My point is, every state has its little quirks and the law changes all the time. What is standard for us in TX, VA, WA, CO, etc. may not be standard for you in FL.

If reaching out to an estate planning attorney in your area isn't in the cards financially (and if you want, PM me and I can give you a ballpark figure what my attorney charges for a couple's estate planning to compare to what you're paying through LegalZoom), then see what information you can find out from the Florida State Bar. You may also be able to get help from a legal aid clinic or legal advice hotline to get some of your questions answered. Wills seem simple enough but the problem is that you sometimes don't know if there's a big issue with them until after someone passes and then it's really expensive and time-consuming to untangle, which always makes me sad :(
