How do you feel about wearing a mask at Disney parks?

How do you feel about wearing a mask while at a Disney Park?

  • If wearing a mask means the parks can open sooner, I'll wear one. I just want to be able to go!

  • Wearing masks would detract from the Disney experience I love so much! I won't go if I have to mask

considering the amount of dedication of everyone on these boards for disney in general, it's amazing the poll results are as they are. as others have said, the general public will be less inclined to go with a mask than people on here. we see no end in sight to what seems to be the new rules. just did something never thought i'd do, request to cancel our aps

This is the part that confuses me the most. Phase 2 in Florida calls for theme parks to be re-opened in limited capacity with extreme social distancing. The governor said that each phase will probably run its' course for 3 weeks prior to moving on to the next one, barring we don't see a sudden spike in contracted cases of COVID. With that being said, phase 3 calls for "regular operations" with very limited social distancing. Therefore, under this guideline from the state, the park in August shouldn't have to enforce all of these regulations. If that's the case, and the rest of the state won't be enforcing these standards, why would Disney stand alone and continue to defer to standards like masks, etc? I'm genuinely just confused by it. Doesn't add up.
because once you put in a rule at a place like disney, it's almost impossible to get rid of it. not to mention disney itself doesn't seem to think it'll be temporary, based on how chapek was talking

I'd rather lay in my soft mattress than go to Disney park with masks since that means going there in the first place isn't safe.

yeah, they might be sending the opposite message of what they're intending with this. ironic how they're doing this to try to appear safe, while making themselves a lot less safe in regards to heat stroke etc

We have a trip planned for late August and as a back up, I booked one for November too. There is no way I would go if we have to wear a mask. Not enjoyable. In fact, mask or no mask, Disney will be a hotbed for the virus. I will only go if there is either a safe vaccine or we already had the virus and immunity was proven. My family’s healthy and life is more important than disney. I very sad about it though. I want to go so badly. Darn virus!!!

You look at Japan and other countries and they have doen masks for quite a while.
Is wearing a mask my first option? No.
But if the option is go to WDW and wear a mask VS stay home, I'll wear the mask.
I've worn a mask at work every day for the last 2 months, so not a big deal.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that the production floor in the facility where I work has the heat and humidity of WDW in the summer. We have been required to wear masks for about 3 weeks now. Management announced yesterday that masks would no longer be required in this department because of the threat of heat related illness. It's miserable just passing through this area of the facility with a mask. There's no way I could do it for hours on Disney vacation with hot pavement beneath me and the sun beating down on me. It would be a miserable experience for my family and I do think there will be cases of heat related illness caused by masks.

My boyfriend is a fit and healthy man in his mid 30s who once had heat stroke in the military in his early 20s. I would be concerned about him as well. It’s just not feasible for a full day in Florida summer heat (where recent reports have said the virus is much less likely to transmit due to UV rays and the weight of droplets in humid air). If mandatory, they should only require masks in indoor enclosed spaces and transportation.
I was a fit 21 year-old stationed in Florida while in the military in the early 90's. We were in a training exercise where I was required to wear a gas mask for 2-3 hours one night. Three of us had to be taken to the base hospital for IV's. This was just a mask and not a full chemical warfare suit.

Yes, I think heat-related illness for guests wearing masks is going to lead to incidents, too, unless they decide to only require them inside. Requiring them outside in July/August/September, given how many older and/or unfit guests visit WDW, I don't see how they could not have incidents. I've seen paramedics at Disney working on people who exhuasted themselves in the heat before any of this started. Masks will make it worse. Unless he only means for them to be required inside, you have to wonder about Chapek's judgment on this. It seems to be a concession to mollify the employees union, but at the expense of the safety and comfort of guests? I just don't see it lasting long it they're required outdoors.

I can wait to visit Disney. I have always practiced good hand hygiene while at the parks however I am perplexed how they're gonna to make sure the rides are sanitized after every use. Will Disney hire more CMs just to have one clean the ride before they let new riders on? Will it be up to the guests to wipe down the safety bars? Will guests wash their hands properly? You still need to practice good hand hygiene even with wearing a mask as you still need to eat and drink. As a friendly reminder, it is good practice to change your mask after you eat or drink. Watch YT videos on the proper way of donning and doffing a mask!

Since most guests will be wearing cloth masks, it is very unlikely that most people will change them after they eat and drink. I'm not saying they shouldn't, just that for most guests, that isn't going to happen.

Unfortunately those older or unfit guests who have issues breathing that would be exacerbated by a mask are the type of folks that COVID could kill. As much as Disney loves those people, this may not be the time for them to come into a crowded situation. If donning a mask makes them feel its unsafe, then its probably best to wait until this is over. Once Disney can welcome their smiling bare faces again they will be thrilled to do so.

Now, if we are talking about healthy people that are forgetting to hydrate, yeah, the hassle of taking a mask off to drink may make that worse. They might want to have more reminders around.

Of course they should wait, but they will be there regardless.

There is one more factor that has not been mentioned. Our summer months ( and some fall/winter ) have high temps and humidity, it also has pop up storms in the afternoon. The norm used to be bring extra socks and shoes now it will be bring plenty of masks, including ones for your park bag.

Definitely not going if we need to wear masks. We don’t go every year, or even every other year, so when we go, it’s a big deal. We go all out for the full experience. Masks would ruin the experience in a big way for me. Besides being uncomfortable, having all the human emotion & connection hidden behind masks is too sad. That is a big part of what makes Disney such a spectacular experience over run-of-the-mill theme parks. Plus, it’s my youngest child’s first trip (she’s 4) and everyone going on the trip was super excited to experience the wonder and excitement through her. I just can’t bear to think of her big first Disney trip with everyone wearing masks. We’re supposed to go in November, but I’m feeling 90% sure we’re going to reschedule to next year. But, sad the big kids and getting older, and everyone was the perfect age right now.

Picturing Story Time with Belle with everyone with masks on...so sad. (I doubt they'd even run the show under those conditions).

That having been said, we do casual trips to local theme parks in the summer, and I don’t even think I would do that with masks, either – hot, uncomfortable, awkward, depressing.

I’m curious about those saying you have no problem going if masks are required ...do you have children? Even if I, as an adult, was ok with it, there’s no way I would go and expect my kids to wear them. I’m certain they would complain endlessly and mess with them non stop. It would be miserable for all of us. I’m just surprised so many are saying it won’t be a big deal, if kids are involved.

I hope the mask thing is over by the time we go. The problem I have with masks is that if you don't change them frequently and properly, you are defeating the purpose. What is the likely hood of that happening?? Zero... So I lean towards the physicians that say the best way to deal with this is herd immunity. Just my two cents.
