Resort Change by Disney

Wow, that’s disappointing I didn’t think they would try to downgrade anyone. I heard a lot of people being upgraded to various dvc resorts.
We didn't receive the confirm reservation email so I believe we have to call in anyway. Might as well speak to someone else and see what they say while doing so. We aren't seeking out an upgrade specifically, but when your resort is closed by luck of the draw and they try to pigeonhole you into a place you don't want it doesn't sit right. Thanks!

I would try to be firm with what you want. My TA told me they were trying to change my akl Savannah view at Jambo house to a Kiddani studio. She requested a one bedroom to compensate for the move, so that’s what I have for September.
We don't have a specific request but now wishing I had a TA on this reservation! I appreciate your help :)

I completely understand, but a downgrade is definitely not acceptable. I don’t blame you for not wanting the options given. Good luck!

8/8-8/11. We called in right at 7 am on Monday and waited about four hours. Once we got through to guest services we were told the rate protection would only apply to CBR. We expressed that this was a downgrade for us as we love POR and do not care for CBR, but they didn't budge. My sneaking suspicion was that they were advised to sell/push CBR first until that was filled, then go back to upgrading as needed.

Oh, I apologize! I misread your other post. I read it as "for those getting moved to CBR.... how?" - like they weren't offering you CBR at all. Sorry!

According to my TA, after the new matrix came out Tuesday, they are being firm on not offering any upgrades. Comparable, lateral moves only. :confused3

To maintain the isolation before they enter the bubble.

I don't follow. If its only 136 rooms, why wouldn't they put the families where their player family is at? The whole purpose of them coming is to have them attend game and spend family time. So why not put them right into that bubble? Why close down a resort with thousands of rooms for 136 rooms?

972 rooms. Probably because they don't want to put players families in anything less than a deluxe. GDT is a higher standard than the rest of CSR. They may have looked at the cost analysis and decided it was worth it. For all we know the NBA might have bought out the entire hotel to compensate them.
All of this is conjecture, of course since we don't know thats why they aren't opening Jambo, but still. I could see why they would.

Interesting to know. I was wondering what rooms they were offering at RR for people getting moved. We were staying at GDT 9/16-9/23 and our TA was able to get us moved to a Deluxe Studio Standard View in Kidani Village. I am super happy with the move but I was really looking forward to a Tower experience. I told her we were very happy with the result but if possible could she see if any other Towers we a possible move.

I hope I didn't sound ungrateful. GDT is in its own weird spot of a deluxe but not really so its hard to get a proper lateral move. I was hoping for CR or Riviera. But I am not sure how the Tower studios would do for us even if it is possible to move. Its only the two of us but I wonder if we would be happier in Kidani.

Thoughts anyone on moving from GDT to Kidani instead of another tower room at CR or Riviera? We have never stayed at AKL. Again I hope I dont sound ungrateful because we got a great upgrade, but there's no harm in asking.

EDIT - Just talked to my TA, she said they were going to try and put us in CBR from GDT as it was a Moderate to a Moderate. She had told them this was an unacceptable move and we were put in Kidani. Cant thank the Dreams TAs enough. They are amazing. We are more than happy with the outcome.

Well I'm hoping my TA can get the same result, we are actually in a GDT room arriving right after you leave (9/24-10/4), and I told her that we don't want CBR (or a Studio Riviera room either for that matter). We have used her for a cruise before and she was very good at getting things squared away with all of our reservations and another that was scheduled for this June, but we've never used a TA for Disney before, so I hope it doesn't end up biting us in the butt. If they can't give us an upgrade we'll probably move this reservation until next year assuming the price difference isn't huge (it should be somewhat comparable as we didn't book with any discounts).

Disney can not let any guests stay in Jambo House and lock DVC owners out of those rooms. It would violate the contract.

The only reason they can keep it closed is it is not needed due to being part of the same condo association as Kidani and paying to run it without Disney having guests makes no sense for owners.

But, as soon as it opens to any guests, then that reason is no longer valid because those hotel has opened.

I have a single night at Coronado 8/11. I was planning on waiting until the crazy dies down on the phone lines. Is this a bad move?

Exactly. I was just typing that out and saw your post.

My TA said she called a couple of cast members the other day one didn’t know what they were talking about and the other one she could just tell was not in a great mood for obvious reasons....... She told me she was just gonna wait a few days before calling back..... She wants to try to get me a better upgrade and she’s thinking if they ran out of equivalent I could only go up from there(currently ASMu) I said do whatever you want lol

My TA says she still cannot get through! Why can the TAs not get through if you all/others are getting through? Is it because you guys were willing to wait 6+ hours??

I understand that I need to call Disney and modify from resort for which I am staying at AKL Jambo house standard view king bed in September. Since my resort will not be opened, with me having to switch to another resort, is Disney expecting me to pay the difference????
We had an AKL Jambo Pool view room booked. Called Tuesday and they offered me CR garden wing garden view, no addt'l charge (price protected). Said that was the only thing they could offer me. It's still about a $100 free upgrade based on rack rate, and the rooms are bigger, so I'm super happy with it (tho bummed about no AKL bc I love it there).

Word is with AKL, they've removed Jambo house villas as an option altogether, so the only other option there would be Kidani villa, which I wouldn't have really wanted anyways. Though I don't think they are moving standard (non DVC) bookings to villas. You're moving from a deluxe room though so you'll get something good regardless. Most common one I've seen is the move to CR so they'll likely throw that out. All depends on when you're going and availability too though.

Yeah GDT to CBR is most definitely a downgrade, not an upgrade, so your TA did right to push. GDT is in the moderate price level but it's really a deluxe amenities-wise. AKL is great, though personally I prefer Jambo House. That's the main building. Kidani is nice and the food their (Sanna!) is awesome, but it doesn't quite have the same ooh and ahh to it that the main house does. We were AKL Jambo House pool view (non DVC) and got moved to CR garden wing garden view. Still, if you've never stayed in AKL before, regardless of the building, the rooms are gorgeous and the animals, theming, etc are great. You'll have a blast. All-in-all AKL is my favorite resort on property, hands-down.
