Cases rising or dropping by you?

Here is an interesting article on excess deaths from February 1 to September 23. The article estimates that 26.3 excess deaths in that timeframe were the result of the response to covid (delay in diagnosis/treatment, fear of seeking medical attention, loss of insurance), other than the virus itself.

“Excess deaths not assigned to Covid-19 were even higher than predicted by our model in counties with high income inequality, low homeownership, and high percentages of Black residents, showing a pattern related to socioeconomic disadvantage and structural racism.”
I believe it wholeheartedly. I know many people whose procedures/surgeries, etc were severely delayed, canceled due to C19 that were extremely essential (i.e growing tumor on the trachea, aka wind pipe)... The start of chemo, etc. Even my own issues would have been ignored if I didn't become a crazy person and despite the hard situation we are in, we are safe and getting the best care one can during a pandemic.

It’s no mystery why it’s spreading so easily. People need to stay home when they have symptoms, even if you think it’s allergies or something else. And by all means, if you are concerned enough to call your doctor asking if they think you should get Covid tested, call before you go to work, not from work. I have a coworker who came to work Friday and today and now if she tests positive, she’s exposed quite a few of us. :headache:

Wont happen unfortunately. I think we are so used to just carrying on as normal when we have a cold or mild sickness. People are just conditioned to keep going. People will not stay home for a sniffle or cough. Add it to that the folks that have no symptoms. They are spreading it too.

I believe it too. I was due for a mammogram that kept getting pushed out. When they did reopen, it was very limited with only minimal techs working so they were totally backed up. I was so nervous because I had a friend who had a very aggressive form of breast cancer that was picked up by a mammogram. She had no symptoms and no family history. They told her she would have died in about 3 months. I hate to think of all the routine testing that was skipped and delayed, and I hope they don't shut down medical facilities again if we see a second wave.

DROPPING!!!!! Yuma School buses made their empty routes and huge light billboard along the desert freeway ....take the free test on saturday...free the rest of us...if numbers are low, we are free to wander about....just like the states months ago....that were free to wander about....and now light up the national map!!!

It’s a complete train wreck in Wisconsin. We are going to be a disaster this fall and winter. And now a stupid judge blocked our Governor’s order for limited capacity in restaurants and bars so there is absolutely nothing to stop this from getting even worse. I feel so hopeless.

Ohio has had it highest day today. We are now over 2000. With our restaurants fully open and it getting cold out I don't foresee our numbers going down anytime soon. We are also seeing cases spiking in the schools and colleges.

There was no seasonal effect with this virus to begin with.

I think the poster means as it gets cold, more people will be gathering inside, which is why the numbers won’t go down. They never insinuated there had been any seasonal effect.

That was my take too. It has been proven that being indoors with no masks is a huge spreader of the disease. In places where it gets cold, things that could be done outside, like bbq's, outdoor dining, outdoor classrooms, exercising, etc. will move indoors.

Yes, this is what I meant.

Well, my coworker was positive, so now I’ve got to hope I can get tested. I know people can’t stay home for every little sniffle, but I’m really irritated with this coworker. She was telling everyone she thought she was just having allergies, even though she also says she has never had allergies and allergy meds weren’t helping her. What a mess.

That gives us allergy sufferers a bad name!

I have another antibodies test scheduled for tomorrow. I took one in May, but it was negative.

I’m still convinced I had it this past December. I never, ever get sick but for a week I had flu like symptoms.

My state is crazy with Covid infections. We've had over 20,000 new cases in the last 7 days with a record shattering 3,747 from today. Our governor keeps on trying to establish rules to control the pandemic (a state wide mask rule and a rule to limit bars and restaurants to 25%) and he keeps on being sued and his rules overturned. 20% of the people being tested are positive and a field hospital opened up at our state fairgrounds. It's very frustrating to see things go to heck in a handbasket while people ignore best practices.

Unless you were in China in December 2019, the chance you had the virus is like 0.00000000001%

I disagree with this article that the info is misleading. I actually prefer the way Florida reports their data vs other states. I do agree that positive percentage isn’t the most useful metric.

They need to stop interviewing Rebekah Jones. She is still facing some serious charges. Stalking is never okay.
So is resisting arrest with violence and assaulting a police officer, which she has pending in Louisiana if she ever goes back. It occurred when she was fired from LSU.
