Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Mess with the system. All open air travel like thunder mountain, the rafts, incredicoaster, autopia, zephyrs, symphony swings, goofy’s flight school, dumbo, Matterhorn bobsleds, carousel, story land boat, Casey train. Plus have a massive outdoor food and wine festival!!!! 😂

Well I'm still going through it but this suggestion makes me wonder if maybe finally bringing Magic Bands over wouldn't be a bad idea:

Consider offering all-inclusive package deals/wristbands that combinepark admission, parking, food and beverage, and special upgrades likereserved seating and cabana rental to reduce the number oftransactions made inside the park.

Also does anyone want to tell them that people lose masks constantly on rides in other states? They can definitely technically be a loose item issue. But as far as I know they haven't caused major problems yet.

Face coverings must not present a loose-article hazard or interfere with the safe operation of the attraction whenused by either riders or ride operators. If necessary, consult with the ridemanufacturer/supplier to decide which types of face coverings areappropriate for specific rides.

Its enough of an issue that I know Cedar Point keeps backup masks for people at the ride operator booths. I remember someone needing one while waiting for Top Thrill Dragster after I was waiting to ride. And then again when waiting for Flight of Fear at Kings Island.

Guess we'll have to start looking at switching our DL trips to WDW, as others are doing. So disappointing!

Aulani owners had their points extended.

I have a DVC night booked in December (have expiring points through a booking snafu at WDW earlier this year), and while I would have loved to leverage those to guarantee a park pass for an onsite guest, I'll be happy to just be able to do a staycation.

I am hoping they do something too! I have 2 November reservations to use up some points. 11/17-11/18 using 20 2018 banked AKV points and then 11/18-11/20 using 10 2018 banked vgc points and 20 2019 vgc points. The first was booked 11 months out before COVID became a problem and the other is just trying to use up some last banked points. Not sure what else I can do before 11/30 to use them since I cannot go to wdw right now. And then I have 15 2019 banked AKV points from my February use year on a January reservation that is now an issue too. sigh, I am healthy, my parents are healthy and my extended family is healthy and that is more important so I just keep reminding myself of that.

This does seem like they're playing some kind of game here. I mean, I am the first one to talk about being safe and responsible, but WDW has done pretty well. I haven't heard of any major outbreaks linked to its operaiton. Between screening and enforcing the rules it seems they are doing well. I do understand there is some risk, but I bet if you asked the CMs they'd rather go to work. I would hope the state of California would see that and get it done.

To those who are posting links to the articles and citing sources, thank you! For everyone in this thread, please remember to post those sources and links -- it really does matter! We have people following this superthread from all over the country and from outside the US. Those links make finding the news much easier for them! And for those making sure that their sources are from unbanned sites, a big thank you!

Re-posting DIS Guideline #5 as a reminder for everyone posting here and on this board in general. Please keep this in mind when posting in this thread, on the DLR boards, and on other DIS boards:
5. POLITICS/RELIGION
Because of the large number of complaints of personal attacks related to these subjects and inability for many people to keep a civilized conversation when discussing these hot-button topics, politics and religion will no longer be appropriate topics on our forums. Political or religion based posts or threads will be removed, and repeated violations of this rule can result in an infraction.

This doesn't mean that political news or facts can never be mentioned here. Clearly, these things have been posted throughout the 300+ pages of this superthread. But please remember that there is a big difference between posting these facts and news updates vs. venting/ranting/disparaging/preaching/insulting/trolling/etc. with this same information. Today was a hard day and just about everyone here understands the frustration and the anger. There is no need to lash out or dump on anyone. It is possible to show respect when we disagree with people, both with people here and people in the news. A little grace can go a long way toward saving sanity.
Now, let's get back to the game!

The issue is there is no contact tracing done in Florida, and I highly doubt Disney is going to want to announce if someone who attended WDW got covid it would be bad press and Disney doesn't want to look bad. There must have been something that the task force saw that they did not like which is why they still kept the tight restrictions. With the way FL numbers are, I would not trust how that state is handling things. I feel for the CMs, I know some of them want to work (and some are worried about going back). I hope that some of them were able to find employment.

I totally understand not wanting to post opinions or deliberately inflame people. But I think some posts keep getting deleted that have facts or information that is relevant to the speculation of Disneyland reopening. Like, there were posts in here about vaccine timetables. Those would have direct impact on how quickly the county could reduce in tier, and lead to DL reopening. Can I just ask that before posts get deleted, to consider if they are actually inflammatory or if they are providing information?

I agree.

The vaccine portion of this is relevant because the governor keeps mentioning it when he’s talking about theme parks reopening.

It also depends how the task force was instructed. If their job was to look for everything that goes wrong, they will find it. If their task was to have an open mind and see how things could work, they go in with a completely different mentality. And then the report will be different as well.

Themeparks around the world have reopened and stay open spite second waves, as they have so many more measures than the average supermarket or restaurant. I think the 2nd closure of Disneyland Hong Kong was an exception which had more to do with the power play between China and Hong Kong than Covid.

If themeparks were a massive contributor to bad figures, we would have known.

I mean Disneyland got guidelines now, if you guys are unhappy just go to WDW.
Chances are Disney probably won't open until January or February, especially because flu season is coming up and more and more people are becoming less likely to stay indoors or isolate or self-distance or mask wear. I can't see it opening until next year.
I'm really concerned for the 20-30,000 unemployed in the area due to this. I'm concerned about the number of small businesses that can't reopen. Drive down Harbor or Katella. There are 3-4 motels open. Everything else is closed. Panera is closed, so is McDonalds, and every other place along the way. Mimi's did reopen last week. But for all the people unemployed, there are no jobs. So many families are employed by Disney or the near by areas. I know families where mom works in the hotel, dad works in the restaurants, and kids were in the theme park. Now they are all unemployed. And unemployment benefits are running out. Add to it, the city of Anaheim has lost over $100 million in tax revenue. Orange county has lost a ton for tax revenue. If the bleeding keeps going, it is going to be difficult to keep paying for essential services.
I can't believe Ghaly is comparing San Francisco County to ANY other county, let alone a large one line LA and OC. San Francisco County population = 883K, LA County = 10.1 MILLION. San Francisco is difficult to get into and you plan a day around it. Los Angles County is LITERALLY like an entire state - larger than all but 7 states in fact. Apples to oranges doesn't begin to describe the difference.
San Francisco is such a unique county. The majority of people working there, live outside the county. So if they do get SARS-CoV-2, it is reported in another county. It is a very poor choice for comparison.
Hah, I'm an optimistic pessimist. I expect the worst but hope for the best.
It's definitely a deal-breaker for Disney with their usual M.O. I hope they realize lowering prices and offering smaller alternatives is better than letting the parks sit and rot. If they utilized all of DTD, DL, and DCA for dining and shopping, they could cut down on the lines, employ more CMs, and make some money instead of writing everything off as a business loss. Shoot, do that and charge $10 for parking and they would still get droves of people trying to RSVP.
I'm not sure they can use the Interior of DL and DCA. Knott's can because it is classified a "Marketplace." I think the gates have to stay shut. But they could do something in the parking areas by ESPN zone and Esplanade. OPening Stage 17 was a good move in that direction.

But it will be interesting what the Gallagher Kiley v. Newsom does tomorrow. This could all change.

Plus the tech industry there is big and most people can work from home. That has a huge impact on case counts. If a larger majority of people don’t have that privilege, that will just naturally cause a rise. I felt like they were using them as such a shining star example in the press release today but it didn’t feel like a fair comparison to me.

Your posts did have good information, but were quoting and answering a post that had been previously deleted for something else. You can re-post your comment and tie it to DLR's reopening just as you stated in your comment above. That kind of information can help those following who don't live in SoCal and don't understand our admittedly confusing data. But just posting COVID data and metrics without explaining how they apply to the parks reopening doesn't always help those following along. Remember, we have readers from other states and other countries -- and technical data isn't always the easiest to translate for some readers. In future, if a post has good information but quotes a deleted post, I can try to edit out the quote and leave the rest, if that will work for you.

I think for all of us it would probably be best that you edit the posts to remove the information that shouldn't be posted in instead of flat out deleting them since some of these posts had valid and useful information in them that was not breaking board rules.
