I voted yesterday... No Political statements just asking about the method you chose on casting your ballot.

Only absentee early voting happening now in Mississippi and one must meet specific allowances to vote early- age, out of town for work or college, legitimate vacation, and this year have Covid or care for someone with Covid.

Unless I want to lie, I will have to wait until election day.

The absentee voting is very heavy already with long lines at the Circuit Clerk's office.

I do wish we had more options, like many of you.

I'm ready to vote and be done.

Our 4 children are all eligible to vote this year. 2 will vote for president for the first time. They are pretty excited for the opportunity.

Our son and DIL law voted in their state Friday. In and out in under 25 minutes.

Mail in ballot that I dropped off instead of mail last Sunday. I was going to turn over my mail in and vote in person to be sure it's counted but the county opened these satellite election offices to collect ballots, I decided to go with that.

Right, and states that don't start counting until the polls close will have to scramble.

But we have to realize that election officials are bound by the law. They can't just make up their own rules. So if the state law says they can't count until the polls close, they have to abide by that.

"But...but...but...but, why didn't they change the state law to make this more streamlined???" Well, because nobody anticipated a pandemic in the middle of an election year!

The system they've had for years has worked, so nobody saw any need to change it. Many states have had minimal problems previously, and had no reason to think this year would be any different.

I find all this stuff fascinating. I've kept up on all the little controversies over the rules. I saw a video where a small county (maybe in Oklahoma?) was showing they did it. They didn't have a whole lot of volume so they weren't using terribly fancy equipment. The ballots were counted using something that was closer to an office scanner. But then there are the big counties that handle up to a million ballots in an election. Each machine can crank through 10 ballots a second and a bunch of these could probably go through that million in 4-5 hours. That's if the machine doesn't break down.

I've seen what my county uses, and they've got high speed sorters, signature matching machines, etc.

In the first five days, Miami-Dade County, FL has had just under 203,000 early votes cast -- a little over 40,000 per day.

I'm expecting higher numbers this weekend, which will be the first weekend early voting has been open. I wouldn't be surprised to see 50,000 a day on the weekend.

OP here..

Thanks for keeping us update with what's happening in your county... I find it very interesting to see how things are progressing with the early voting... and it makes me at least feel better seeing the vote numbers rise, and that people are out voting... and most of all they are being counted.

Yesterday when I was out and about, we drove by several polling places, and the lines where long. I'm interested to see here in Orange county what the numbers are on Monday...

Mailed mine 10/20 and Supervisor of Elections for Polk County Florida website shows it being received 10/22.

NJ. Mail-in ballot, dropped off at official state ballot box outside our town's municipal hall/police station. Received confirmation that ballots were received.

Georgia (Atlanta suburbs)

Voted in-person on October 15 (Thursday). (We have 3 weeks of early voting.) Took about 40 minutes.

At the start of that week, lines were reported to be over 5 hours for early voting.

Here's the official State of Florida data, as of this morning, from the Florida Secretary of State's office. They update three times daily, so this should be the most current available.

https://countyballotfiles.floridados.gov/VoteByMailEarlyVotingReports/PublicStats
So far, as of this morning 5,706,000 total early votes have been actually cast statewide in Florida -- 3.7 million by mail, 2.0 million in person.

Almost 6 million mail ballots were requested, and there are still 2.3 million not yet returned.

[ETA: The "not yet returned" category includes ballot requests not yet processed. The deadline for requesting a mail ballot was 5 PM yesterday, so some requests are still pending or the requested ballots are in the mail to the voters.]

I early voted a few days after it opened. The local polling site had a huge line around the large building so I went downtown. They marked some paid street parking as free for voters, which was nice. The polling site was on the second floor of a high rise. I don't feel comfortable taking elevators right now so I took the emergency stairs. There was no line and it was very well run. Everyone was wearing a mask and there was hand sanitizer that they made everyone use.

My MIL got her US citizenship right before COVID. She was set to return to India to visit family and tie up some financial matters when there were warnings of a shutdown. We decided then that she should stay and we're glad we did. Her home city is a mess right now. This election was the first US one she's voted in. She always voted in Indian elections. My DH took her to vote Friday and she was very impressed. There was no line which is good because it was very cold and she hates cold weather. She usually winters in India, if possible, for that reason. While she is more proficient in English than many people born in the US, she was confused at first. Luckily, they let my DH help her. She enjoyed the experience so much that she told us that she wished she could vote every day.

Our state has early voting now underway. I had an absentee ballot since didn't want to stand in lines of people to vote due to covid. Dropped off my absentee ballot in person at the voting site earlier this week to avoid any potential 'issues' with the Post Office. Everything seemed very organized and moving along well at the polling place.

Early voting, in person. Tennessee. I was #7500-something in my county of 58k. I much prefer to vote in person, on election day.

I'm not sure if I understand your post. Did you vote early or are you waiting?

Middle TN, voted Friday evening, around 5:30 PM(early voting site open until 6:30, weekdays,.) there are about 5 or 6 early voting sites in our county. From walking in to out, about 10 mins, maybe less.
Was cool that when a brand new voter came in, everyone clapped. Had 2 show just while I was there.
Vote by machine, then we print our ballot, bring to scanner for a paper backup. But vote is counted per the machine. Easy process that time of day/location.
