Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend 2021 (April 15-18, 2021) - Now Virtual Only

I read “re-themed”, but not necessarily gone entirely. They could still keep it Star Wars, just not “Rival Run” or go a different direction entirely. I wonder if they're considering something more rotational, since the Star Wars theming didn’t seem to be a compelling draw, given its lack of sell outs. They could easily do a year of Star Wars, then Marvel the next, then a Villains without having to shoehorn it into W&D, etc. it’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Ugh!! I hate being right all the time. At least they let people know early because they knew there was no way they were running this race. And now W&D is on the clock...

I think Star Wars is gone at least yearly. It’s always the lowest attended. Marvel is hard given the contracts. That’s why Disneyland did it.

edited to add I guess you could read it as specifically the Rival Run theming is technically done but I doubt they would make a note of that if it was still going to be Star Wars generally. Just my opinion.

IDK, I think it means the Rival Run concept is going to be re-imagined. But also, it could be that alot of runDisney things are gonna change so who knows...

We will see. Seems odd to remove with all the new star wars stuff announced yesturday. Maybe move away from movie and theme it for mando or rebels or clone wars. Wishful thinking I know.

I did all of the in-person star wars races on both coasts so would be sad if star wars races as a whole are done.

It is also possible that after a year of no races they are looking to completely revamp the rundisney calendar in 2022.

lol. just posted that same speculation. After all these races have been cancelled if you are going to shake up the calendar now would be the time. Say marathon weekend will be first in-person to return and go from there.

If they do completel revamp the calendar, I'd like to see night races return and would love some version of ToT to return. Construction was listed as a reason it went on hiatus (I think that was the words they used) but that construction is over now.

I know but I enjoyed them. getting to finish line and having an after party till 1 or 2 am was a whole lot of fun.

That last statement is pretty interesting. Makes you wonder (like someone above said), if maybe races won’t come back until 2022.

Too me it also just sounds like a re-theme for this weekend. Could maybe still be occasionally SW or something else... Wonder what this means for not quite (5 year) legacy runners of Dark Side/Rival Run?? Would timeline restart if they use the same weekend? Or get rid of legacy status all together, if they are looking at ‘every aspect of runDisney experiences’?? and what could change for all weekends??

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

It would have been nice if they had made it virtual BEFORE Southwest opened up their flight reservations for the weekend - which happened YESTERDAY. Ugh!

I haven't had to deal with a "transition to virtual" event before. Is the gift card for the difference between the in-person race and virtual or is it in addition? If I want the difference applied to my credit card, is that an option?
