Oregon DVC Owners Group

Born and raised on the east coast (so home resort is WDW) but I've been an Oregonian for 33 years now. I bought OKW when it was the only DVC available... later sold... and recently bought back in (long story). I'm glad you've started this thread. 🙂
That sounds like an interesting story! Did you buy back into OKW, or a different resort?

Back into OKW. After a hiatus from Disney, I started renting points and then bought a contract from the guy I was renting from. Due to scheduling I rented out the first year's worth of points, but now doing the bank/use/borrow for a three bedroom place in December.

My first stay (on points) was 1993. I've stayed at other resorts, mostly in the bubble, and OKW suits me well, so that's where I bought back. Second choice was tie between Beach and Boardwalk.

I love OKW and thought about buying there, but figured we will go to Hawaii more often than WDW. We were lucky enough to get an RCI trade there in 2014 using my WorldMark timeshare, and they put us in a two-bedroom. I am pretty sure that room was the same size as our first house.

Did you lose your blue card status in this situation, or did you buy back before they started the restrictions?

I really do enjoy the 'elbow room' of OKW's homes.

Yes, lost the blue status. I looked at buying direct but the price difference didn't make sense since the plan is to only go every 2 or 3 years and I'd have to spend a LOT to get the discount and make up the difference. We use the kitchen a lot and don't buy a lot of souvenirs so...

How are you liking Aulani? Yeah, the direct flight time between Hawaii and Orlando's about the same from here. We were on Maui a few months ago, but stayed in a small place on the beach. I guess I don't like being more than a story or two off the ground. 🙂

Bummer that you couldn't get a blue card just for being an OG from back in the day. You sound like us- minimal souvenirs and meals out. We also use the kitchen to the fullest (breakfast in room, pack lunch into the park, maybe share a meal for dinner, or snacks from backpack until we get back to the room), so the dining discounts aren't too badly missed. Although the joke's on Disney... if they gave us even a small discount, we'd be way more likely to spend extra money. Their loss!

We love Aulani, but have only been once, 8 years ago. We just bought our membership last year and are finally returning in June. I'm so excited! Hopefully it's as magical as we remember it being. Have you been to Aulani?

I did check the flight time to Orlando and Honolulu from PDX when I was buying DVC, and they are almost exactly the same amount of time when flying direct, which is interesting.

Maui is actually my favorite of the three islands I've visited (Maui, Oahu, and Kauai). I wish Aulani was on Maui instead. We Oregonians are spoiled by our own beautiful and usually uncrowded coastline, and that's how I like to enjoy Hawaii as well. I definitely prefer the nature aspect of Hawaii over shopping and dining, so Waikiki and the crowded places are of less interested to me. We will balance crowded Aulani pool days with beach days off site.

We are technically in Washington (Vancouver) but that's basically Portland! We are owners at CCR and looking for a SSR, AKL or maybe Disneyland Tower contract in the near future.
Vancouver is definitely close enough, and still part of the Portland metro area. We'll claim you! Lol. I haven't stayed at CCR or BRV, but they are high on my wish list. How long have you been an owner?

Our only trips to Hawaii have been to Maui. We found a place up the west coast (north of Lahaina) that's a two story complex right on the beach (walk from back door to sand was about 50 feet) with kitchen/living room space (a lot like OKW now that I think about it). We may change it up next time. Our kids are grown so our interest in vacationing around other people's children has dwindled. I'd be interested in your take on Aulani for a couple in their 60's.

Speaking of coastline, we've gone to Yachats often, renting a home on the beach. As you mention, the beautiful and uncrowded coastline of Oregon.

I live in Pa but I wish I lived on the Oregon coast. It is the most beautiful stretch of coast I have ever been on in the USA. I have lighthouse picks of every single on form south to north and Cannon Beach is just beautiful. I can go on and on and on. . . oh best tide pooling and beach hiking also!
