Current Magical Beginnings promotion with Direct

Hmmm, yes, you make a very good case for moving ahead now as opposed to waiting…very good current incentives on an actively selling resort that will only get more expensive. This was my thought process as well. We were also considering renting out points next year too, which as you have pointed out, further reduces the per point cost. Another reason not to wait. Thank you for outlining your thought process on this!

I was definitely going crazy and agonizing over this decision. Would have been easier if we hadn't just just just bought a big chunk of BCV points resale. But then that stinkin 6 months no interest Disney Visa with the 30/60/90 split payment stretches it all out until early next year to pay off. Probably not the most responsible choice I've made. Ah well. At least we'll enjoy it!
This is me! The amount makes me cringe. Of course it will make me cringe whether I do it now or wait until next year. I know I am giving into FOMO if I pull the trigger now, but will I be kicking myself later when I have to pay even more? Probably. We know we definitely want more points, we want the blue card, and while I am not in love with GF, I wouldn’t regret owning there either. We want a monorail resort and well, “check”, “check” and “ “check”.

And as someone else pointed out, I was also worried the 150 minimum for eligibility might get bumped again since it's climbed quickly over recent years. It does seem like there's been a few weeks advance notice when that happens, but if it's at time when incentives are less appealing but I hustle up and buy then instead of being able to wait for a better deal then I'll be mad at my past self.

How do the payments work? Is DVC charging 1/3 of the total price every month and you have 6 month at zero interest starting that month for all 3 charges? So in theory your last payment is actually 9 month interest free?

So I was able to split payment into quarters. Has to be at least 5K down upfront I think it was. I arranged it as 25% now, 25% June 1st, 25% July 1st, and then the last 25% charge at the end of July. Each charge has its own 6-month window. It'll be a rolling window of six months on each with that last payment having to pay off in about nine months then working back a month less on each of those earlier charges.

Now I just need to be really responsible for the next nine months! *tugs at collar and sweats nervously*

Oh! And also an important note. For the Magical Beginnings promo, they don't send that $22/pt check until about four weeks after the last payment/charge is made. But you do get immediate blue card status and points access as soon as you have signed off at the start. So if you don't split your payment then you'd get the check about a month after you signed and paid all at once.

Another thing I learned regarding the Disney Visa. If you want a credit limit increase to accommodate a larger DVC purchase then Chase lets you request it online in your account but then it takes up to ten business days. Well nuts, my impulsive purchase can't wait that long because we need the Sorcerer APs for our trip next week.

Sooo, I saw a tip elsewhere. Chase lets you reallocate your per card limits across other Chase cards you may have. So you're not increasing your overall credit limit, just changing where it's currently available. Bingo bango. Quick call and moved around limits we had absolutely no need for elsewhere and we were set.

This is good to know that they are still allowing to split payments essentially up to 90 days out. I thought I read that they were pushing back on this and were only allowing to split payments twice.

For the 1250 addtl discount, did you have to charge your entire purchase on your Disney Visa? I have Chase Sapphire Preferred and was going to try to charge a chunk there to take advantage of the 18 month pay over time with 0 fees. TIA!

Ok, I was going to ask about this. I have done this previously with Chase…moving around credit limits and was planning on doing the same with the Disney Visa. I was still confused about the 30/60/90 technique as wouldn’t you still need a credit limit high enough to cover the entire amount? I have pretty high credit limits, but not that high and I was planning on splitting the amount between two cards.

Yeah, the Guide said the end of July was as far out as she could push the third payment for "90 days" out. It was close, but just a little under.

So I just had to prove that we had a Disney Visa, but it actually sounded like I might not have had to use it which was surprising. Of course, I wanted the six-months no interest, so I didn't consider an alternative and didn't test that theory.

Correct, you would need a limit high enough to cover whatever amount you're going to keep under the six months no interest. So if the total purchase is 2x your limit, then only the second half gets the 6 months. That is a little more restrictive, so adjust your approach accordingly.

You said 5K upfront downpayment…did you put this on the card as well, if I may ask?
Yes, right on the same card. I did more than 5K and just went ahead with the 25% down now instead of the minimum, but I could have done thirds of total purchase price minus the initial $5K down.

Thank so much! Gotta talk to the hubby again with all this info :) Still might hold off till right before the current incentives end to see how the new ones look like. I hope the Magical Beginnings Program at their current rate will still be around then.

Not to complicate things further, but this was interesting on that idea for the next wave of unknown incentives.

I had read the recommendation to do a purchase within 10 days of the end of the current incentives to have the rescission period to switch over if the new ones were better. Since we would be there mid-May, more than 10 days before the end of the current incentives, and wanted to use an AP instead of tickets I figured the potential incentive changes would probably not be more than the cost of tickets instead of putting that $ toward the APs. Oh well, I thought, but not quite.

Our Guide says since we're doing the split payments that our window to "rewrite the contract" would be open longer and go until that last payment in late July. Sooo, if a better incentive comes along before then we would be able to switch over. That seems hard to believe and I didn't get it in writing, only over the phone so I can't prove it if we needed to, but it's what I was told. So I guess unless a better incentive shows up in August then we'll be in a comfy position to monitor incentives until that 3rd/final payment in late July.

Since this is a real estate deal, I believe until all the payments are received, they won’t be able to close the deal (record the title etc) until then. That’s probably why the guide said that. Because I asked about the whole process once we decide to add-on and what happens next. I said - wow, the points are loaded onto your account and can make reservations on May 16th and we’re not paid in full by then. She said yes that’s right. They’re not able to close and record the title or deed until it’s paid in full. But the best route probably would be to be within the recession periods to be extremely safe IMO.

That makes sense. It is surprising to have access to the points before it's paid. I was curious what they do if someone defaults during the process and have already used points, but didn't ask.

Agreed it'd be ideal to wait and use the true 10 day period to crossover between incentive windows. That would avoid any potential "I was just confused when I said that" issues. Hopefully it's not an issue that comes up.

Yeah I don’t know what happens if one has used the points before paying in full. However in the case for VDH, she said that DVC can always cancel the reservations if it’s not paid in full by the agreed upon time window and since it’s not opening til late September, this wouldn’t happen at VDH. 1683214272292.png

Can I ask how did you get the 18 month pay over time with 0 fees? I have the chase Sapphire card, but I cannot find details about it this anywhere. Does it have to be a newly opened card?
