Usually depends on what day of the week is December 25 since it moves around each year and if we are having other friends/relatives over after Christmas. If 12/25 is in the middle of the week, might be back at work and then taking things down would more likely happen on a weekend. In the years we have had a live tree, some last longer than others. A dry tree can become a fire hazard and more likely to take it down soon then later. Some years we have good success with a live tree, others not so much !!! Our city also only does tree collection for a certain period of time after the holiday. So all of those things enter into the mix when deciding when to put away the decorations.

I haven’t quite decided. By tradition the decor stays up until Orthodox Christmas/the Epiphany (January 7), but the lights are turned off after that. It can then take me a little bit to actually get stuff taken down and stowed for another year. :goodvibes

This year, January 8th is our hard and fast date. Normally, no earlier than 12th night (Jan 6), and possibly as late as the end of January. But this year my cousins are coming to visit Jan 6 and 7, and I won't take anything down before they come. Then movers are coming Jan 9 to pack us up for our move back to Orlando. So the 8th is literally the only day we have.

Not judging, but I’m surprised by the number of people(in general) who don’t celebrate through the Epiphany. These 12-days should be some of the most important on the religious calendar. This coming from someone who is not “outwardly” religious.…
I leave my nativity up

I have some decorations up at work that I’ll put away when I am allowed to go back. Come on negative COVID test. Day #9 and still positive.

Last year our tree had Valentine's, St. Patrick's, and Easter decorations on it. We leave the tree and lights up for quite a while!

When I was a kid, our home had a multi-stepped mantel. My mom would put the nativity scene on the bottom shelf, but the kings were always on the top shelf on the far corner. Then moved bit-by-bit down the steps, starting on Christmas and ending on 12th night, making their journey to follow the star over the manger.

I was always taught that it’s bad luck to undecorate before new years, and I enjoy looking at all my decorations so I’ll leave them up til about a week after new years. And in Europe Xmas seasons not over till three kings day which is January 6

Going away on the 6th so want to get this done before then. Plus weather looks warmer this week to get it done. The older I get the less I want to do this.

DSil and I just had this conversation yesterday after dinner. She leaves hers up until after the Epiphany, but I usually take ours down around New Years. It'll probably be Jan. 1 this year since we have to be back in school on Jan. 3. It just makes for an easier transition back into the working world.

There are plenty of people (myself included) that only celebrate the secular aspects of Christmas, so the religious aspect means absolutely nothing to me

Not a religious family either, but as has been well documented here, Christmas runs through the epiphany on January 6th in our household. We normally don't put Christmas decorations up until after December 7th out of respect for Pearl Harbor Day. But this year we put them up December 2nd because we were going to be out of town the following weekend. The Christmas season sure dragged having everything up a week early. Went out to look at Christmas lights on Saturday night, odd mix this year. Lots of houses with nothing, and lots of houses with over the top decorating, including one house with 28 inflatable Grinches on the front lawn.

It depends each year based upon n when dh is working after Christmas. This year he is working all week, so decorations will come down on Saturday. Then snowman stuff goes up until the end of February.

I like to leave it up till after the epiphany, but I go back to work on the 3rd so want to get things put away before then. I have company coming Friday so it will wait till Saturday.

We have a party on New Year’s Day at our house, but we leave it til Kings day on 1/6. Then Christmas gets picked up & Mardi Gras decos go up!
