Rumored Changes to G+

Park reservations wont be needed, but other than that I don't think anything else will change... except the price of Genie+ could be higher.
I'm going the 27th, so let us know. ;)

I’m interested to see how wait times change for Pirates when it’s added to G+. If DAS users truly make up such a large part of lightning lane lines, then it should stay about the same, right? (I’m a DAS user and have also not seen many other blue lights when tapping in. They also always greet me by name, and my family knows to let me go first.)
ETA: I didn’t realize the Pirates change was at Disneyland. 😳

if we're going to pay for it regardless I'd much prefer the current G+ than going back a FP+ system. We get a lot more done/convenient stacking when doing G+. I know waking up 7am might not be fun for many, but I'd rather do that than plan 60 days ahead, too much early planning as is already.

I disagree due to the limitations with G+. Once you ride with G+, you cannot select it again. It was not like that with FP+.

i dont ever remember being able to ride the same ride twice with FP of any form.... paper FP was a one shot, stick your card in and get one. When they were scheduled in advance, you had to choose different ones, you could not schedule the same ride multiple times.

With the old system, once you rode your 3 pre-selected rides, you could then pick more "day of." Many people were able to get 5 or 6 extra attractions in on top of their 3 pre-selected. And you could often pick the same one twice.

Yeah if you found availability you could ride again. It’s so weird that with a paid system (and therefore you would assume less use) there is less ride availability than with FP+. Or at least seems like that to me.

This. I don't understand how they've increased the cost and made it less functional.

Part of it has to do with ILL but that can't possibly be the only thing that's made availability seem lower.

I just found out we're going in June, so I hope they announce changes soon to see how it rolls out. Should I learn genie+ and LL/ILL just in case? Best threads/videos on that?

Ok, thank you, I think I remember, not sure how many trips I took with that version, but I do remember it was my least favorite version as I never had luck with that system. We are not rope droppers and usually like to roll into a park in the after-noonish time. So while there would be availability after the scheduled 'biggies'... it was often not what we would be as excited to ride or do.

I like this current system as I can stack rides.

IMO at lot of it has to do with giving out less LL compared to FP.

We used FP+ a lot, but never got close to 8 or 9 attractions in a day! 5, maybe 6 max. And we travel when there are lower crowds - that really wouldn't happen during busy times!

Where FP+ was a big advantage for us, you could pick an actual time window - not the 'next available' like G+. Where G+ is better for us is 1) the ability to easily modify times during the day and 2) the ability to hold LL times that overlap. With FP+, it was really annoying sometimes when we got our first attraction from 12:15-1:15 (as an example), but when I went looking for the second one, I couldn't get it because it was 11:30-12:30, and I couldn't overlap. Pros and cons to FP, to FP+, and to GP+. There will be more pros and cons with whatever is announced with Genie+ V2. Sure would like it if we could select an actual time window like you could with FP+, or currently can with ILL.

But one con that is not going away anytime soon is the extra cost....... BIG con, but people are willing to pay for it....

We travelled to DW twice a year when FP+ was offered. The last week of August (super low crowds). And the week between Christmas and New Years (super high crowds).

Oddly enough, we always got way more fp’s each day during Christmas week then our August trips. We chalked it up to rides running at full capacity and longer park hours over the holidays.

We would often do our pre-selected fp's in the morning (10am, 11am, 12pm). Then start booking extras. It was pretty easy to get five or six more if we had 9 hours left in the parks. We are rope drop to close people, so that is an advantage.

With the old FP, we would be lucky to get one "big" ride per day. With G+/iLL, we were able to ride ALL the major attractions from MK and Epcot in one day, plus several minor rides, during our trip two weeks ago.
For us, and I feel like we are pretty decent G+ users, it is almost impossible to really get good use of it at Epcot. So in the morning you have to pick one “major attraction” (test track or rat or frozen). And that’s it. Your are going to struggle to get any of those when your next window opens. For any time during the rest of the day. So we never ride rat or frozen bc we always choose test track. Guardians we always pay for the LL so we get that. Epcot was never good for FP and it’s still not good with G+.

With the old fast pass (FP+) at MK there was always more availability than now and you could re-ride. It’s really no contest, at least at MK, how much better FP+ was than G+. We would at least get 6 rides a day but most days probably 8-10. And it wasn’t a struggle most days.

Remember, they had that tiering restriction with FP+, where you could only book one of the top rides, and had to book a couple lower tiered rides first? With G+, they sorta took the 'tier 1' attractions and turned some of them into an extra expense ILL. But we now can use G+ to schedule more than one (former) tier 1 attraction at a time in some of the parks.

There were times we were able to get the Mine Coaster, Big Thunder, Buzz, Peter Pan and more several times in a single day.
