DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

One outlaw dinner done. The BIL had his twin 16 year old daughters sit at the adult table while i sat with my daughters at the kids table. SIL (his wife) came over to the kids table and made another cousin get up she could drag her chair back to the adult table. Whatever. I finished, went and played ping pong with the kids while watching football. Not too bad a day after all.

Onto outlaw dinner #2 .....

Fat, happy and comatose. To paraphrase Forrest, "I'm tired, I think I'll take a nap now."

Sounds terrific. I'll be able to enjoy the holidays again. I'm shooting for 2025.

Happy thanksgiving to you gentlemen south of the border. Hope you’re all enjoying it to some degree. Some easier than others I guess. Big family get togethers can be tricky.

Morning centurions. The Pepto Bismol is in the right hand cupboard.
Bright and breezy in London. Have a good second round.

That was quite the adventure.
I've been doing a lot of eye-rolling and snickering at the posts from the group that are up there this time.
Okay...evidently this trip was before my time and can't be named, so can you PM me so I'm not so confused (at least about this)?

Morning all. I went in to work at the church today to find out the office was closed and I had the day off. So, back to the family to decorate the house for Christmas like we always do on Black Friday and have our enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner.

The turkey has been in the brine since last night, prepped the bacon wrapped green beans, cauliflower salad, scratch yeast rolls, mashed potatoes, and derby pie.

I'm sorry... what???

SIL (his wife) came over to the kids table and made another cousin get up she could drag her chair back to the adult table

What was the chair for? Herself?

mmmm...
Except for the derby pie. Had to google that one. Never heard of it.

Yes, the chair was for herself. I had some accomplishments, and my parents taught me I wasn't the best in the world. But, when everything in life is begged for and given, you always think you're entitled. And, they are passing it down to their kids as well.

Derby pie is great, but you can't put it on a menu because of trademark infringement. The Louisville company sues everyone. So, I'll see it named chocolate chip pecan pie, race first week in May pie, horsey pie, etc. Restaurant owners can be fun and creative.

On the good news front, the turkey is in the oven. I tried it the splotchbake method from Rachel Ray, with my usual seasoning/ brine. I'll post a picture when done. I've got the rolls made and in the fridge. I folded in butter to the cold dough, and am letting it sit before one more folding. DW and the girls have the Christmas tree up and are decorating it. I have the lights hung on the house. Working it this holiday ....

Happy Friday guys. Dinner was great, I think one of the best I ever made. Storms were predicted but they stayed away so we ate outside. Nice time with the kid. Watching the um play Pitt and they are down 10-7 at the half. It would be nice if they lose. Have to run a couple of errands then I am hunkering down for college football all weekend.

What a complete tool.

Agree with that statement. You have more control than I have Norm. But at least it is over.

Gave up on family gatherings after my parents passed away. Much easier that way.

I have to try the bacon wrapped green beans sometime. Sounds like everything is humming, enjoy your belated Thanksgiving dinner. Have to look up splotchbake method. After the errands, I will do T-day dinner part 2. Turkey, taters, stuffing and rolls. All topped with gravy.

All right Canadians, and American with Scrooge like bosses. I’m calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one in the Liberty Tavern for a cheeky cranberry cocktail has to take “the gobbler” home. From a frozen London stadium have a great Friday chaps.

Maybe it was called spatchbake? Anyway, cut out the backbone and lay flat. This is an 11 pound turkey done in 2 hours at 350. The internal temp was 170. I'd brown off the skin more but am afraid to dry it out. I'll let you know how it tastes here in a bit.

And the U goes down! Now if Florida can beat FSU and S. Carolina takes down Clemson, that will make my week. T-Day dinner number 2 is reheating in the oven. Life is good.

Jumped your calling it by a couple of days. Forgive me.

Looks good. Curious to know how it tastes.

'Evening all...
Hope everyone celebrating had a great time (and that you're still partying if at all possible.
We went out for T-Day diner, which means that I still had entirely too much good eats and didn't prep nor wash a single dish.

We pulled all the decorations and such for the Holidays down out of the atic and plan to get started on putting it all up tomorrow.
That will be a first in our house and I've never in my life put up the tree and trimmings anywhere near this early in the season.

Not to worry, you aren't missing anything; that comment has to do with folks I know down this way.
Our local high school band made its second appearance in the Macy's Parade yesterday and having been part of the contingent that went up there back in 2011, I'm snickering at some of the commentary from the folks that are up there this time around. Now I actually did write up a TR on our adventure to NY if you're really interested, but otherwise you haven't missed anything. Well, there was the deleted thread that occurred at that same time, but again you aren't really missing much and it was a good while back in our "illustrious" history.

It was excellent. Juicy. Great turkey flavor.

I did a salt water brine overnight. Then, cut out the backbone. Salt, pepper, onion powder seasoning. Rubbed 1/2 stick of butter over skin. 90 minutes in oven covered at 350. Marinate with other 1/2 stick of butter. 30 minutes uncovered.

I could have gone 45 - 60 minutes uncovered for crispier skin. I hadn't cooked it this way before, and didn't want to dry it out. Next time.

It's been awhile. The thread that shall not be named lives in infamy. :lmao:

Really! Huh! You'd think it would be the opposite.
"You can find Derby pie anywhere... but there is only one original."

I tried it the splotchbake method

Maybe it was called spatchbake?

Oh! That's "spatchcocked"
I've cooked whole chickens (under four bricks) in 20 minutes that way.
never thought of doing a turkey that way, though. Huh!

Next time... you'll cook it the same way (spatchcocked) but uncover it sooner?

Morning Gents, Happy Saturday. Can't believe it is already the last regular game of the season today. It was disappointing year for Florida but it would be a nice consolation if they beat the hated Seminoles. Now it is just waiting to see who they hire and enjoy the bowls and the playoffs. It was a bonus that Miami lost. Gave the kid a little grief over that.

No, it was pretty cool report of your trip to the Big Apple. The thread that shall not be named will live in Dis history.

It was excellent. Juicy. Great turkey flavor.

Looks good, glad it lived up to your expectations.

Happy Saturday. I hope everyone's stomachs have returned to their normal size, whatever that may be. On the home front, we are going to give Amazon Prime a try. We have had Netflix and enjoy it. Looks like Prime has movies/ tv along with music and free shipping. We did the trial month and will then decide which one to keep.

That's what it's called. Thanks for clarifying. And uncovering it sooner sounds like a better idea to get it cooked faster. I guess I'll just have to try it again at Christmas.

Morning gents. Odd shift today.
Got a call at 8:20 to come in early (supposed to be on an evening shift) but it works out as I'll be home early.

I would expect nothing less.

Nice one.

We get Prime for the free shipping, and Netflix for the series. The movie selection over here is woeful. Except we watched Miracle on 34th St yesterday on it.
It was disappointing year for Florida
Apart from picking me up as a follower, obviously. Doesn't look like its getting any better for the gators mate, following it here.

Its awfully nice on the charcoal grill that way.

Evening chaps from LDN. Froze my Jacobs off last night watching West Ham draw against Leicester. Spent the Q to the tube cheering on Mike with his lights. Which I guess is why the internet was invented, so some random in London can talk in a queue for a tube talking to a dude in Indy about his Xmas lights. Finished off my bottle of Bookers, may crack the Weller 12 tonight. Ran out of la-di's, which is a shame, I really fancied one tonight.

Have a great day fellas.
