Good Neighbor hotels to get 60-day FP booking! Update: AND EMH!

I was thinking the other day that with all their extra land, Disney ought to build a couple small communities on-site. They could rent the houses out to larger groups and you would still get the proximity and perks, while having the advantages of a house. Heck, they could even sell them. I would certainly buy one if I had the money (I don't).
They actually did have something like this years ago in the 80s. The Lake Buena Vista Villas used to be where Saratoga Springs is now and they had everything from townhouse style condo sized villas to some that were much larger (multiple rooms, some two and three levels, different floor plans) You could rent a golf cart for the week and drive it all over and to the "village" which is what is now Disney Springs ( back then it was small, charming and much calmer) The tree houses are all that remains. They were incredibly fun to stay at as a kid and rather remarkably affordable at the time all things considered. A middle class family could actually rent one with multiple bedrooms without majorly breaking the bank. They were torn down though and turned into building for the Disney Institute which has transformed into Saratoga Springs which is now incredibly different.

Probably pretty close. Keep in mind those are all going to have $20-$30 resort fees per night as well. What it will do for me if this is the trend is push us further from the parks, and closer to other parks we might spend time at instead. Or it may just push us to do more cruises/beaches than Orlando theme parks for vacations. Sure we may be a small minority, but who knows at this point. Can't imagine I would be the only one upset to see those rates skyrocketing as well.
Not all of the Good Neighbor hotels have parking/resort fees. Also, keep in mind that many of them DO offer free breakfast buffets as well as complimentary cocktails & appetizers in the evenings as well.

Eh, split stays between Universal and the WDW area is the solution. That's what we often do.
That is what we do too. We normally spend 10 days at a Disney Hotel, and 3 at Universal for their on-site fast passes. If Universal didn't have that, we would definitely stay somewhere cheaper.

Chip and Co is supposedly confirming that 60 day FP+ and EMH for Disney’s springs hotels will begin on Jan 10

http://www.chipandco.com/select-dis...e-60-day-fastpasses-extra-magic-hours-292350/

I read an article today that said starting Jan 2018 thru Dec 31, 2018. So could this be a year trial thing? If so, I hope it is unsuccessful. It's hard to get fast passes for what I want using the 60 days out let alone now competing with 6 more hotels for those same passes.

Yea not a big fan of this, what is the point of staying on site now? This is what disney listed in their press release regarding the benefits of staying onsite "Guests staying at any of the Disney Resort hotels will continue to experience special features offered at a Disney Resort hotel, including legendary Guest service and unique theming, along with benefits like the Extra Magic Hours benefit, the ability to make FastPass+ selections up to 60-days prior to arrival, (both of these benefits require valid theme park admission), the convenience of MagicBands, complimentary transportation (motor coach, buses and ferry boats) around the Walt Disney World® Resort and standard parking at Disney theme parks, Disney’s Magical Express service and the ability to purchase Disney dining plan packages. Those Guests staying in select Disney Resort hotels can also receive other services such as personalized vacation planning, merchandise delivery to their rooms, and easy access to Minnie Van service"

wow you get a magic band, transportation which offsite supplies and once your onsite you can use Disney transportation, buy a dining plan and legendary Customer service yea ok.

The EMH is I think what’s killing me even more! I will definitely be trying to avoid EMH parks even more now!

Wonder if this will lead to more mornings being a paid early event like thing. More crowds, more people with FPs at 60 days, I just have a gut feeling that there is more to this than meets the eye here with Disney.

If I am not mistaken a lot of these hotels had EMH and then stopped offering that a couple years ago.
Yeah, but I feel like these days anything more than 12 months old (even that is pushing it) is obsolete. Crowds are much worse now. EMHs are reduced with typically only 1 park per day and only 1 hr AM or 2 hrs PM. And hotel prices are much higher.

Plus, it says you can link your resort reservation to MDE, which means on-site non-Disney hotel guests will get the 60 days plus length of stay, not just 60 days.

So, just EMH?

Interesting.

I just wonder if they are going to strt phasing out EMH -- increasing that perk to non-resort hotels, doesn't seem to make sense (as it makes those hours more crowded). So maybe, during the last "down" year until SWGE, they offer this out to good neighbor hotels to pull in crowds, and then just phase it out. I mean it already has been noticed they have decreased them over the years.

I mean it has to be pretty costly to run the park early/later and they already KNOW they can monetize this sort of thing with the Early Morning Magic at MK.

They'll ditch EMH, extend Early Morning Magic to every park and have a "special" paid event for those who are willing to pay for less crowded access to the parks. With SWGE coming, I can see people lining up for that ability, no matter WHAT the cost.

Maybe they just discovered that people get Disney hotels for the other perks. I know EMH really doesn't factor into my decision to stay onsite. The cost, transportation, magic bands and 60 days FP are the primary factors.
