Boosting your immune system

Curious to know what kind of stuff they want from us besides the magical elixir of Good Host? And do not let yourself get lured into moving black-market KinderSurprises. ;)

I'd be interested in OTC stuff that is only available in the U.S. via prescription; although I'm not yet sure what that is.:)

elderberry syrup, vitD3, Vit C. Thinking of adding Reishi Mushroom tea. Lots of sleep trying to eat well, without tons of sugar.

nothing to boost, but as a protecting measure I always carry my own pen to use while out on errands/appointments. no way do I want to be using the same pen every ill person at the pharmacy/doctor's office/grocery store has been touching.

Tylenol with codeine immediately springs to mind. Since it's a controlled substance in the States though, I don't know if it's OK to just mail it over the border.

Oh, well, I'd probably not want that anyway. I was more wondering if Canada sold more potent hydrocortisone creams than here. I think ours do nothing.

I’ve been poking around online and haven’t found any info for otc meds. Last thing I’d want to do is get a phone call from the FDA or Customs Canada lol

Besides, I was thinking more for food..

Same here! I even found a pen that doubles as a stylus for signing the screen, I love it!

I also wipe down the handle of my shopping cart with a wet-one wipe before I use it during flu season, those things are germy!

I take several vitamins and supplements based on blood work and what I need to stay healthy all year.

Today, we have temperatures in the mid 60s with sun. I went and sat outside with my arms, legs, feet and face exposed for about 45 minutes soaking up the warmth and vitamin D. It was glorious after having 1/2 of sleet on Tuesday night. I do this as often as possible. I have had low vit d before and if I can keep it up, I stay much healthier.

Yesterday, I did a thorough spring cleaning of the house with open windows and doors and washed and wiped and scrubbed like I haven't in ages. I firmly believe in nature helping with sunlight and fresh air.

At the first sign of a cold, we put peroxide drops in our ears and swab our noses with peroxide and then gargle with peroxide and water. Keeps the full blown cold from coming on. I have elderberry syrup, losenges and tablets on hand just in case.

I do the normal precautions of washing hands after being out, carrying my own pen, wiping off carts, etc.

 Can you still get the fizzy tablets there?

Yes - it looks like someone answered right after your post that you can. (I don't personally like the fizzy, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it lately too.)

I thought they had finally allowed them here! I saw "Kinder Joy" eggs at Market Basket, and bought one. It opened as two sides with foil over them. One side had the candy, and the other had snap-together pieces that made a ball.

Lots of hand washing and no touching of the face. Also, I've become a believer in zinc supplements since about a month ago when I was coming down with something. I took a zinc tablet right when I realized the tickle in my nose was not allergies or any other irritant. The next day I felt crappy with more or less the usual cold symptoms, but the day after that, when you usually start to feel worse, I was 99% recovered. I can't say for certain if it really WAS the zinc and I will have to try it again the next time I feel something coming on, but I have never experienced anything like that. A one day cold.

Unfortunately, excessive amounts of zinc and vitamin C are apparently not good for kidney stone sufferers, so I won't be using it on a regular basis.

I believe that zinc has been the only remedy that has been studied and proven to have an effect on rhinoviruses. I don't believe it works on anything else. It's always so hard to know if it worked for you or not because a lot of other types of viruses seem like colds (rhinoviruses) but aren't really so the zinc would be ineffective and you'd think it didn't work. But I believe it has good efficacy against the common cold. I've read that a few doctors take in 1-2 zinc lozenges per day as a preventive during cold season and it's also suggested you do this when you get on a plane.

Yes, fizzy tablets are still here.

Thank you - I’m really quite obsessed with these fizzy tablets. Are the ones you’ve seen the original Airborne or a store brand? Where exactly have you seen them? My sister is headed down to Washington state in a week and I’ll send her hunting!

I feel like I saw the Fizzy Airborne tablets at Walmart. I recently bought an off-brand fizzy tablet from Lidl, which is a new small grocery store in our area.

CVS pharmacy. It was the gummies I've gotten the store brand of, but they definitely have the original Airborne fizzy's:

(also in lemon lime) and I'm pretty sure my local grocery store does too.

Here are the CVS locations for Washington:

Not sure remedy is the right word. Zinc is the only thing that has been proven to ease cold symptoms.

Gravol, for the stomach, that's the stuff. Never seen it in the US.

Washing your hands will do more than any supplement and many of the supplements are nothing more than snake oil. Beyond a good multi-vitamin that has vitamin D3 and eating a diet full of vegetables most of these pills are a waste of money as is taking more than 100% of any water soluble vitamin. You are literally peeing your money away.

Also Tide will not boost your immune system so avoid those pods.
