After spending $$$ on ECV rental the past 3 years we are looking into buying a new/used travel
ECV. DH weighs 225 lbs and is 5'9". He has a Medical Care Credit Card so we can use the card
to spread out the payments.
I guess I can go to a medical supply store in NJ where we live and start the research.
I see the prices range from a low of $650 to a high of $2000.
Any suggestions on where to start. Our next DCL trip is October 2018..
We would mostly use it for travel, on cruise ships and airlines.

Cheshire Figment (previous Moderator of the disABILITIES Board before he died) bought all of his ECVs secondhand from a Medical Device’s provider. Most of them were rentals that were ‘cycled out’ of rental after about a year of use.
Since he lived in Orlando, he had a number of companies to choose from.

I remember some of the things he suggested was being comfortable with the company and buying from a company that could also provide service if needed.

I love, love, love the company that installed the lift in my van. Not only are they only about 2 miles down the street they are the premier mobility service provider in the state of Arkansas. Their primary business is dealing with conversion vans that require massive modifications for someone to use who may be driving from a wheelchair.

All I needed was the Bruno joey lift in the back of the van - not the side entry or van that lowered. At no time did they ever pressure me to get more than I needed now. Every single employee was friendly and helpful. And very knowledgeable.

I recently discovered that they also sell mobility scooters. When I do decide that I need an update I am going to rely on their expertise as to what would best fit my needs and that will work with my current lift

Presidential Conversions with locations in North Little Rock, Fayetteville, and Jonesboro Arkansas for anyone near those areas that might need assistance.

We were friends with Mike as part of our Disneyana group. I actually have a picture of the "Figment Mobile" that Mike customized. We visited him in Poinciana, FL.
right after Judy died. We do miss Mike and his insightful information. He was a character. Going to look for the picture now.

The Travelscoot that I use (named him Angus, long story LOL) is very popular with cruisers. Additionally, the "SmartScoot" is about the same size and weight as Angus.

There's also the ATTO, the "E-Force1" by EWheels and I believe some folks like the EVRider as well. You can find all of them (except for the Travelscoot) on Amazon. The inventor of the Travelscoot only sells direct, via the website. You can call them to see if anyone in your area has one that you can see and try out.

This style - the super lightweight, foldable type is really popular because they are easier to deal with on board the ship, and typically can fit through a lot of cabin doorways that other scooters can't. I learned way more than I ever wanted to when I started searching for a lightweight folding scooter! :)

I will be glad to answer any questions you have about the Travelscoot (you can PM me here)

I can't find the FigmentMobile picture, but I did find a picture of me, Judy and Mike. DSC02087Judy&MikeAtPinEvent 2009.jpg DSC02087Judy&MikeAtPinEvent 2009.jpg
