MDR menus

We're booked on the Mariner of the Seas next year for a 3-night, just to try it out. We've done 5 cruises with DCL and my DD was excited to try CocoCay and some of the other onboard things (that boogie board thing, rock wall, and ice skating most notably) so we're going to give it a shot.

I have a bunch of questions but I think my main one is related to food. So we have a dining time of 8:30. On DCL we're used to rotational dining. It looks like there's only one dining room onboard the Mariner, correct? And is there a different menu each night or does the menu stay the same? Is it worth trying the uncharge restaurants?

Anything else you feel like a newbie should know about?

Thanks all!

Disney's rotational dining is the odd-ball among cruise lines. All others, you are assigned 1 main dining room and a dining time, unless you choose My Time Dining. Each night you will have a different menu.

Chops is a great alternative to the MDR if you want something different.

As @plutolovr said, there is one dining room. If you have a set time already and didn't make those reservations in your cruise planner for every night (which you'd have done if you have My Time), you have traditional dining which will be one floor or section (not sure if Mariner has the 2-level MDR or not) of the MDR. You should have the same servers and table (likely shared) every night.

RCCL does the same menus across the fleet. There are minor changes between the menus each night - a couple of different appetizers with 3 or 4 of the same, 3 or maybe 4 different entrees with 4 that are the same, and a decent rotation of desserts with a couple that are the same. If you have food allergies, you're a bit more limited.

That's the adult menu anyway. I have no clue what their children's menu looks like as I've never been seated close enough to a child on RCCL to see it.

Awesome, thanks! I'm primarily vegetarian, though I occasionally do eat fish. Will I find enough to eat in the dining rooms?

There were usually one or two veggie things and always something fish.

In addition to the vegetarian options on the menu, Royal always has some sort of Indian option that is not on the menu. It is not always vegetarian, but can usually be adapted. You will just need to ask your waiter if they have any Indian food choices available. Many of the chefs are of Indian decent and so the food is usually really authentic and tasty!

and there is always the buffet! I don't spend money on upcharge restauratns but that is just me
