Every Mile is a Miracle

Great training week and way to power through some runs even when you weren't feeling it. Bay looks adorable for her first day of school.

Now I want a margarita. And I don't even particularly like margaritas. :)

Yay for a good training week last week! Sorry this week sucks, but there's still time for it to turn around.

Also ... I'm just gonna keep trying to #peerpressure you into Staten Island. I hope you're cool with that.
(Honestly ... do whatever is best for you. I know trips to NY are expensive and it'll be hard to make it work. But I'd love to have you there, so I hope you can find a way to make it work!)

Great week! That margarita looks so cold and refreshing.

Staten Island.....do it, do it, do it!!!

Second: please translate to landlubber terminology.
Okay here was my workout: 100 SKPS, 100 F/B, 4x100 Sprint Ladder, 200 F/B, 100 CD
When I was on swim team in high school my coach always had us warm up with SKPS, which I love so I still do. So I start out usually with 100 SKPS which is 4 lengths of the pool doing an easy swim, then 4 lengths kicking, then 4 lengths pulling (swimming with a pull buoy between my legs so you're just using your arms), then 4 lengths easy swim again.
I was a backstroker in high school so it's my favorite stroke. So next up I did 4 lengths alternating freestyle and backstroke, free down and backstroke back.
After that I did a sprint ladder 4 times. The first one I did 1 length at a sprint and 3 lengths easy, then 2 lengths sprint and 2 easy, then 3 lengths sprint and one easy, then 4 lengths sprint.
Followed by an easy alternating freestyle and backstroke again but for 8 lengths of the pool.
Then finished up with 4 lengths of easy freestyle as a cool down.

Thank you! I feel like lighting it on fire definitely ups it's visual appeal. Haha.

Gonna start texting you about maybe making this happen because I have never been to NYC and don't even know where to start to plan this.

You are all enablers and I love it!

This may be a dumb question...what is a length of the pool? Like from one end to the other? :confused3
Yup, a length is one side to the other, also known as a 25, as most pools are 25 yds (sometimes meters, mostly yds). And a lap is 2 lengths of the pool, there and back, known as a 50.

ETA: No such thing as a dumb question! :)

Thank you! It all makes sense now.

Okay here was my workout:...

Wow, impressive! I won't embarrass myself, but my whole workout is not much more than your warmup.

I can tell from today that the exponential improvement I was hoping for is not going to happen. Time to get back to reality and realize that improvement is going to happen a little bit at a time.

I'm like a runner who expected to run 1 mile on day 1, 2 mile on day 2, 4 miles on day 3, 8 miles on day 4..., marathon ready on day 6!

Gonna start texting you about maybe making this happen because I have never been to NYC and don't even know where to start to plan this.

I've never been a visitor to NYC so I don't know how much I can help with the planning, but ... text away. Lets make this happen!

1. Pull buoys are literally the worst and should all be fired straight into the sun.
2. Sarah is the local expert on NYC, but if you need any rec's from a frequent visitor I'm happy to help!

No, kickboards are Satan's spawn, not pull buoys.

PS - On the road trip this weekend to Chicago, there were serious conversations about a trip out to Phoenix. Seems the Madison airport just opened direct flights. So a duo run half-marathon (or other distance) is seeming like a real possibility. So I keep something in mind is there a better time of year then any other for you?

YES! That is awesome! Phoenix is only a 3 hour drive from me and as long as we don't have anything else going on, I am pretty easy on time frame. I feel like the temperature would be best for you between November and April. Haha.

:woohoo:

:P

So SO so true. Alright, I'll let you know if I hear anymore. The family just tends to check on a daily basis for super low fares and then makes a move. So we shall see if we can get everything to line up.

W13DBP3 Weekly Training Report (8/13 - 8/19)
I am super bad at most things in my life, including: running all my scheduled workouts and updating this thing in a timely fashion. I really like what @SarahDisney did on her page, so I think this week I will be changing up things a bit. But seriously, not that any of this matters to any of you. Haha. But let's talk about last week's runs because I wanna brag about my speed workout. It's all I have going for me right now.

Monday 8/13: Rest Day. In hindsight, should have done my Tuesday 5 miler this morning, but since I had actually done both of my longer runs during the weekend maybe good I didn't.

Tuesday 8/14: Husband was out of town and I just wasn't prepared to run during my lunch, so I skipped my 5 miler. #lifehappens

Wednesday 8/15: This was a killer workout in the best way possible. I had 3 x 1 mile at T Pace and hit them all a little fast but consistent. I focused on what "comfortably hard" felt like and stayed with it. Really proud of this one, especially after the struggle bus I have been on basically all summer.
Plan: 1 mi @ WU (12:29) + 3 x 1 mi @ T Pace (9:04) w/2 min RI + 1 mi @ CD (12:29)
Actual: 11:10, 8:44, 8:45, 8:44, 11:42

Thursday 8/16: I listened to this podcast episode on BibRave about how women's menstrual cycles can effect their training and now that is my go-to answer even if the science doesn't match up. I walked a lot, I took it slow, I cut it short. Whatever.
Plan: 5 mi @ EA (11:45)
Actual: 4.22 @ 12:49

Friday 8/17: Work got a little weird and I was worried I was going to miss my opportunity to lap swim during my lunch, but I made it in the nick of time!
Actual: 300 SKP, 750 Easy Free, 200 F/B

Saturday 8/18: I should have left earlier but man my bed has been feeling so amazing every morning that it is becoming increasingly harder to get out of it. Anyway, it was already pretty hot when I left. Glad I had lots of fluids with me. Walked a bit. This is becoming a trend I can't break because it's not like my body is asking for me to walk, it's actually my brain and I am allowing it to win.
Plan: 8 mi @ EB (10:58)
Actual: 8.01 @ 12:21

Sunday 8/19: Too much alcohol and too little sleep the night before, plus some friends did an impromptu suggestion to rent a boat and spend the day on the lake, so yeah all of that sounded better than this probably really important blind HM Tempo run I should have done in the morning.

And there you have it. I have 26 more days and 18 more workouts until my race. Here goes nothing.

Look at you, miss speedy!! Great job on those T paced miles! You've got this! Will I be able to track you on race day??

Tuesday 8/21
  • Running - 3.5 miles / About 41 minutes / Avg Pace 11:43
    • To continue with my trend of sucking at sticking to my training plan, here was another missed but at least made up run. I was supposed to do 5 mi @ EB (11:45), but squeezed in 3.5 during my lunch break. I just did not want to wake up this morning. So tomorrow I am getting up when my alarm goes off. THAT'S IT. I just am.
    • Regarding the run itself, I was on a treadmill first off, which sucks. I wasn't feeling it for the first 1.5 miles but kind of got into a groove after that and I was actually bummed I had to get off to go back to work. So not a terrible run.
  • Cross Training - None
    • I do want to start incorporating more cross training into my routine, so maybe if I write down "none" enough times in this journal I will actually feel bad about it.
  • Life - Countdown to Cabin Fest Weekend: 3 days
    • We are down a guy at work for the next three weeks so I have been busier than usually for the past two days and I am not a fan.
    • We are heading up to Flagstaff this weekend with a group of friends we meet up with every year. I am looking forward to cooler weather and lots of fun without our kid. Sorry, Bay, love you.
    • I have one more day to sign up for the 15k this weekend in Flagstaff. I am pretty sure I am just gonna do it. Because why not?
    • Tonight we went out for my hubby's birthday because he has to work tomorrow on his actual birthday! Womp, womp. But there were Margaritas and it was great. Of course, I ordered his presents late but it usually as expected from me. Haha.
  • Overall Stress Level - 19

Thank you @SarahDisney for coming up with this format that I like a lot. And thanks for letting me steal it. I am going to try to post daily instead of weekly when my days are fresh in my head as a way to decompress a bit.
