Never mind

Could we maybe make this one continuing thread that you post on instead of making a new thread every week? Just a thought.

And then what? Continually edit the first post as to whether he no longer has maps, or just went again and now has maps? That seems confusing. Just my thoughts, but of course, it is Rob's deal, not mine.

...no, you bump the thread and add a new post when you are going to the park and willing to give away maps. Then even other people could add to it and not have to post separate threads every time since this has become such a trend.

I've thought we might try one continuing thread where people could post when they need maps -- then DISers could reply one at a time to each request. This might be easier and more organized than the random requests that pop up and get lost in the pages of threads. Names could be crossed out as the requests get answered. Think this might work?

That seems like a good system. The frequent map-getters could bump the thread before they go if they want, too. Organization benefits the map mailers and receivers!

I’m pretty much always open to grabbing and mailing some maps (I haven’t even minded dealing with international postage a time or two), so that would give those of us who are willing an easy place to check and see who needs them.

Some people use the maps to start a scrapbook before a trip or to put in surprise baskets/boxes (e.g. "Guess Where We're Going?!") for the kids to announce trips. Other people have family members with special needs who do better with a paper map they can study repeatedly before a trip so that they can feel more secure about a destination when they get there.

If you would like to give this a try by starting a thread, those of us who send out maps can keep an eye on it to keep it going.
Anyone out there who wants maps, jump in with a request. It never hurts to offer to reimburse postage.
Anyone out there who can send maps, please join in!

Or better yet let people get their own maps at the park. If you can’t go to
The park I see no need for a map

I'm not sure why we want to change a system that

A. Works.

B. Was started by the person generous enough to offer to send maps. Rob has done this every few weeks. It's awesome that he has been so willing to go out of his way to make offers to us. If anyone else wants to be so benevolent they can do it in whatever manner they choose. I feel like if it was me offering to help, I would not be so thrilled if the response was, "Could you maybe offer in a different manner?" That's actually not very polite. Take the offer, ignore the offer, or make your own offer. I just don't think that one should tell the offer-er that his method should be improved.

My grandson has autism and he finds it comforting to know exactly where he is going. To say he is a planner is an understatement! Rob very kindly sent us maps last month. They are almost falling apart from being lovingly read and re-read. We will be there next week and having the physical maps before the trip was a treat. A big thank you to Rob and the others who spread this kindness!
