We are thinking of staying at AKV 1st time in Feb 2014. We have been to the resort a few times to eat at Boma, so familiar with the resort somewhat.

Can someone enlighten me on the differences in all the categories starting with value then working up.

AKV value villas are smaller than other villas - they are 3 feet shorter. Value villas are only available at Jambo House, not Kidani - and there are fewer than 10 value 1BRs available. Value 1BRs only sleep 4 - too small to put in the sleeper chair. Value villas can be savanna view, pool view or parking lot view but you cannot request a view.

AKV standard view - at Jambo House, mostly pool view with a few obstructed savanna view. at Kidani, pool view or parking lot view.

AKV savanna view - views of a savanna with animals. The most commonly available room type.

AKV Concierge consists of five 2BR lockoffs. Three face the Sunset Savanna, two face the pool area. The savanna view is not that great because you are facing a small alcove of the very large Sunset Savanna, giving you a limited view. You are also on the 6th floor where the tree tops block a lot of the view as well. In other words, book Concierge level for the service and access to the Sunrise Safari, not for the view. Concierge villas are only available at Jambo House, not Kidani. (stolen from LisaS)

In general, AKV-Jambo House are all on the 5th floor (except concierge as noted above). AKV-Kidani stays might mean lower floors closer to the animals.

AKV-Kidani 1BRs have an extra bathroom, so that is also a consideration for some. All non-value 1BRs have a sleeper chair for occupancy up to 5.

AKV-Kidani is newer as a resort and has covered parking. AKV-Kidani only has Sanaa as a dining option, while AKV-Jambo House has a quick service option in Mara and 2 TS options in Jiko and Boma.

Park buses stop first at AKV-Kidani before going to Jambo House. DTD buses stop first at Jambo House.

The Jambo 1BR setup is weird compared to any DVC.

1) the bathroom is seperated from the bedroom by a hallway that is open to the living room. You cannot privately go from the bedroom to bathroom.

2) you have to step into the Jacuzzi tub to take a shower (there is no seperate shower)

3) there is no extra sink/vanity outside the main restroom. Every other DVC has a 2nd spot to get ready.

But Jambo does have much better proximity to Boma and Mara, and none of the standard views face the parking lot (unlike Kidani), and savannah views do have the unique option of Arusha and Uzima Savannah's.
