I'm planning on booking a cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette. I thought this forum might be a good place to ask questions since Royal Caribbean owns Celebrity (or is it vice versa?) I've never sailed on Celebrity before, so I'm not really sure what to expect.

The cruise we are looking at is in August 2019 that goes to Ireland and Iceland. It'll be a honeymoon/one yearish anniversary cruise since we are getting married in November.

Has anyone sailed on this ship before? I'm in my late twenties, will most people on this ship be older? Are there are a lot of activities to do during a sea day? Is there anything on the ship that's a must do?

Sorry if this isn't really the right place to ask, I've asked a lot of questions on Cruise Critic, but I really like the disboard (It feels like home, is that sappy?).

Just got back from a 7 night Western Caribbean cruise. Will give more details later, but let me say that it is the finest ship I've been on. Have full confidence that you will be in for a treat.

This is great to hear :)

OK...I will post pics later, but here is a basic overview.

The ship is loaded with lounges and quite a few specialty restaurants (extra surcharge unless Aqua class, etc.). We found the Grand Curvee (main dining hall) to be good, not great. The service was excellent though, but the entrees and appetizers didn't "wow" us. However, the Oceanview Cafe' (aka buffet) was outstanding. It was easily the best buffet I have ever seen (including a plethora we have been to in Las Vegas at the higher end resorts). There was no shortage of excellent quality and variety. In fact, we did the galley tour separately and watched how they prep the food and how sterile the environment is.

Our biggest concern was the duration of that the food would sit under heat lamps, etc. The chef gave us personal insight that they have a life of 4 hours maximum for any dish before it is replenished with a fresh batch (even if that batch was brought out with 1 minute to go before a changeover from breakfast to lunch or lunch to dinner!).

Favorite spot for us (and many cruisers) is the Martini Lounge (adjacent to the Grand Curvee). The barkeeps are incredibly entertaining. We don't drink too much alcohol so we didn't opt for any of the drink packages and paid as we go.

The shows (Pearl, a comic and Life) were above average. The comic (we watched the PG rated show) was stellar. The show, Life, was a merger of modern day songs with artistic actors/dancers. In my opinion, it was the easily the best show on the cruise and rivals some of smaller venue shows in Las Vegas (but with superior vocal performances).

Ports were Key West, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Grand Cayman (tethered boats to island). I won't go into details on the excursions as I believe you are inquiring about the ship itself.

Stateroom: we were very fortunate to have a family veranda suite (only 2 of us). There are only 4 on the ship and this was a real treat as there were separate bedrooms and a massive living and dining area. Stateroom attendant was outstanding and knew our names within minutes and established a solid understanding our preferences.

Casino (non-smoking): only played video roulette. I came out ahead which was a bonus.

Musical entertainment: there was plenty of variety throughout the late afternoon, evening to accommodate mostly everyone. One night we'd listen to vocal jazz in the grand foyer, the next you are in the coffee shop listening to a duet of violins.

Spa: we opted for the Jasmine Gardens week package. This included the heated tile based lounge chairs, steam room, tropical and spring showers and the aromatic room (eucalyptus). Both the men's and ladies locker rooms include a large sauna (which I used 3+ times to "purge" my body of toxins). It was a nice treat, but I wouldn't do it again as neither one of us could justify the number of times used during this cruise (4 ports and only 2 sea days).

In quick summary, it was the smoothest sailing I've ever had (stabilizers and front bow design with aft inverted spoiler no doubt added to the minimal motion). The sunset lounge on deck 15 is not to be missed (or the aft section of the Oceanview Cafe' which is outside).

I found the age group skewed heavily towards the 40's - 70's (I know, quite a range). Children were a scarcity. Not many 20/30 year olds, but it could have been the itinerary/ports combined with length of cruise (7 days).

Must do:
Sunset lounge
Galley tour
Martini bar so long as you get a seat on the ice bar - get there around 4:00 PM to have a shot at a seat! If you get a drink, I HIGHLY suggest the Cherry Lane.
Solarium pool and hot tubs (indoor, no children, spa-style music). But, you may like the vibe and entertainment on the deck and outdoor pool?
Climb the steps to the solstice deck (16) and see the basketball court. Forget your hair as the breeze is awesome!

Thanks for this detailed report! We'll be doing a two week cruise to Ireland and Iceland for our honeymoon on this ship so it's really reassuring to hear such positive reviews.

The age range is what I've been hearing so I guess I'll be one of the youngest on the ship. I'm guessing the indoor pool will be really crowded on my sailing since Iceland is a pretty cold location. Do they heat the pools? Whats in the Cherry Lane drink?

Pools are heated. What amazed me is one night they drained one of the pools and two employees were scrubbing and cleaning it; this may be part of their routine.

Not sure what's in the Cherry Lane martini, but it wasn't sweet or sour. It was like drinking a crisp cherry beverage (I think it was vodka based and wasn't too fruity). They have like 20+ different martinis you can order.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for all the pictures! That's good to know the pools are heated, I definitely won't be getting in if they weren't. I think a few cruise lines drain the pools at night for maintenance, its annoying though because they usually have early hours when the pools close. My favorite type of drink is a martini so I feel like I'll be at that bar a lot

Celebrity cruises is not a party boat, however my husband and I have never been bored. For us is a great cruise experience overall. Elegant without being off putting. We have done 3 cruises with them from alaska to the Caribbean and have another one for this summer.
The lounges and bars are good and bartenders makes it great. As well as the shows that are entertaining. They also have live music through the ship that sets the mood in each area. The spa experience is always pampering, even room service is always a nice treat. We can’t recommended enough. But once again, is a 35-40ish croud in general. Is a refined experience and at least we love it!

I'm okay with not doing a party cruise. Most of the cruise we'll be in ports and pretty busy so it'll be nice to relax on the ship. My Fiance will fit into that age, I'll probably be one of the younger ones on the cruise. I am really excited for the locations and glad I booked this. Similar Disney cruise is like quadruple the cost of this one.

Thanks for the review!!

The pool could have been general maintenance OR there was a “code brown” or “code technicolor” (not sure if that is the ship term, but it was my camp’s term for vomit) that necessitated the cleaning.

Appreciate the review. We are looking forward to our first Celebrity cruise in late August.

We almost booked another cruise this month out of Canaveral, but I feared that RCL or Carnival wouldn't live up to the Silhouette or other Solstice class ships.
