I haven't been on this thread in awhile, this year has been expensive
. Luckily, we haven't really sunk much deeper into debt than where we started the year, but we have both dipped into our savings/investments to pay for our dream wedding (which is now only 77 days away!
). We still have enough in savings to cover 2-3 months of expenses if we got laid off or anything, so we didn't drain ourselves completely. We rarely shop for anything other than groceries anymore - so we've been saving money there and using it towards our big 14 night Disney trip in January (when we're getting married) - we realized that it was more important to us to be able to eat at nice restaurants and buy a few more souvenirs there than to waste money at the mall on clothes we really don't need.
We do have a trip to
Disneyland coming up in a few weeks, but that is a bit of a budget trip. I still have my annual pass, my fiance bought his tickets when they had the Canadian discount earlier this year and we booked our hotel using Expedia (and we paid less than $100CAD/night).
Since we are Canadian, we both set up US dollar bank accounts through our banks, and have been transferring money over every paycheck all year. We already have enough in that account to cover all of our food/souvenirs on the Disneyland trip, and about 10 of the 14 nights of our Walt Disney World trip. I've now maxed out my EI and CPP for the year, so I'll be bringing home a little bit extra on each paycheck for the rest of the year - this will let us save more than enough for the WDW trip - the goal is to not charge anything to our credit cards while we're there!
Wow, that is very low mileage - congrats and I hope it lives a long life for you! I'm planning to get a used Rav 4 next fall!
I bought a 2017 Rav4 earlier this year after my car accident, and I have zero regrets! I don't love having a car payment, but the interest rate is low and I am so happy with my new Toyota
It's really easy on gas, and just a great vehicle overall!
