Debt Dumpers - 2017

I just checked and it looks like the 2015 has the most problems.

Well, they were part of the same redesign. Are you buying from a Honda dealer? Is it a Certified Pre Owned vehicle?

I don't have a link. I have a pretty close relationship with a maintenance manager at our local dealer who told me to avoid that model year if I decided to upgrade from my 2007 (I didn't).

It's a certified used 2014 Honda Cr-V with 13,000 miles. It was a leased vehicle now being sold to us by the dealer.

Make sure to check the service record. We bought a certified used BMW X5 with 8000 miles once and low and behold when we went to trade it in, we were surprised by the trade in value. Surprise, surprise, it had had some major front-end damage/work before we purchased it.

Agency exclusive is out for August next year. Booked Aug 20th to Aug 27th at the GF with 6 park days. Had $900 in gift cards to use towards my deposit. Have until June 2018 to pay balance.

What is Agency exclusive?

I check in on this thread occasionally to help keep me motivated. Before my september disney trip, I paid all my bills through October and am currently working on having all my monthly bills for nov-feb paid by Dec 31st including paying off my whole car insurance for the year.
If I stay on this track, I will be debt free by May 18th 2018 and I am SO EXCITED to be working towards such a great goal. Just wanted to come and share, I love this thread!

We bought the car. It's a certified used 2014 Honda CR-V with 13, 000 miles. We paid $18,500, put down $7,000 and have a car payment of $244 per month for 5 years. Insurance only went up by $76 for the 6 month period. Both of our vehicles now have full coverage (comp and collision with a $500 deductible). We also scrapped DH's 2006 Honda CR-V with 205,000 miles and extensive engine damage for $1100.
I'm very happy with how things turned out.

Wow, that is very low mileage - congrats and I hope it lives a long life for you! I'm planning to get a used Rav 4 next fall!

I have a 2012 rav 4 that we bought last year and I love it.

That's great to hear! That's actually the year I was thinking of getting since I want the back door to open to the side and I think that's the last year they made them like that.

Hi all- back in the real world now (sort of). DH and I got home from our 8 days at a horse show this morning at 1 AM. Beyond exhausted but we had a fantastic time and my horse was phenomenal. We pinned top ten in every single one of our classes (out of 50+ horses) and won over $1000. Spent a lot on food up there but didn't do too bad shopping-wise. It was an expensive show for us, but pinning in every single one of my classes is really a once in a lifetime type achievement for my horse and I, so I consider it all money well-spent as DH and I are both very happy. We also hope to make a decent profit on selling my horse next year after his success here, so all in all it has worked out well for us. We did make the snap decision to go back to the horse show this weekend after work as my horse qualified for one last class with the trainer, and we want to see him go in that (and hopefully win us some more money!).

Overall- tired, happy, and a little broke. But mainly happy :)

That's awesome! How rewarding! Imagine that, getting money back out the bottomless money pit that horses are! You have obviously done a great job with your horse! Do you really want to sell now that you've got him to this level? or do you enjoy bringing them along?

Thank you! And yes, always nice to get a little something back! He at least paid his entry fees for this show, so I will take anything I can get. DH and I really enjoy bringing them along- we bought him as a weanling and have been waiting on him for a while, but I will probably show him through this time next year unless I get an offer I can't refuse before then. DH and I can also only afford to own one at a time, and since we both ride I would like to get DH a horse next since he's been sitting out while I've showed this one. I will have a tough time selling him though, he is a real sweetheart! Here's him giving a big yawn the other day.

I haven't been on this thread in awhile, this year has been expensive . Luckily, we haven't really sunk much deeper into debt than where we started the year, but we have both dipped into our savings/investments to pay for our dream wedding (which is now only 77 days away!). We still have enough in savings to cover 2-3 months of expenses if we got laid off or anything, so we didn't drain ourselves completely. We rarely shop for anything other than groceries anymore - so we've been saving money there and using it towards our big 14 night Disney trip in January (when we're getting married) - we realized that it was more important to us to be able to eat at nice restaurants and buy a few more souvenirs there than to waste money at the mall on clothes we really don't need.

We do have a trip to Disneyland coming up in a few weeks, but that is a bit of a budget trip. I still have my annual pass, my fiance bought his tickets when they had the Canadian discount earlier this year and we booked our hotel using Expedia (and we paid less than $100CAD/night).

Since we are Canadian, we both set up US dollar bank accounts through our banks, and have been transferring money over every paycheck all year. We already have enough in that account to cover all of our food/souvenirs on the Disneyland trip, and about 10 of the 14 nights of our Walt Disney World trip. I've now maxed out my EI and CPP for the year, so I'll be bringing home a little bit extra on each paycheck for the rest of the year - this will let us save more than enough for the WDW trip - the goal is to not charge anything to our credit cards while we're there!

Wow, that is very low mileage - congrats and I hope it lives a long life for you! I'm planning to get a used Rav 4 next fall!

I bought a 2017 Rav4 earlier this year after my car accident, and I have zero regrets! I don't love having a car payment, but the interest rate is low and I am so happy with my new Toyota :) It's really easy on gas, and just a great vehicle overall!

Has anyone heard from @Jen and Ashwin? I hope she’s deliriously happy (or maybe just delirious from lack of sleep, lol) with baby Asha.

Not much to report here. Dh and I talked about our holiday plans for the kids and will be trying to focus on experiences and a few tangibles (some being clothes that they always seem to need) rather than expensive stuff they aren’t really interested in. We also need to up the amount we’re paying on our CC so we’re not hit with on a ton of interest when that kicks in (interest-free until Feb.). DS has almost enough hours to schedule his driving test and wants to do that before the end of the year, so we’ll see if he manages that (and passes) so then we need to get the old van ready. It’s due for registration renewal plus the AC doesn’t work and it needs a couple other things done. So, plenty to keep us on our toes!

Had a big work meeting last night and today and will end up with half a day’s overtime in my next check. Won’t be much but it will be nice to have anyway.

I’m also thinking about her and hope she and baby are ok. I’m sure they are fine. Just tired and adjusting.

So, after our dryer breaking the week before vacation, the truck needing two new tires, and being 30 hours short on my paycheck, fate decided to play nice.

I got $100 for my birthday Friday. Instead of being a good girl and saving it, I decided to go to the casino. It was something I used to do often before I had kids and had a single girls budget. Not sure how it happened, but I ended up jackpoting a $2 machine for $1400. Oncce they took out taxes, it was about $1100. I still had $200 left on the machine from normal play, so I said "screw it", took my $200 and stuck it in a $25 machine and crossed my fingers. Two spins in, I hit double-7-double for $8,000. I can now pay off both our loans, our furniture lease, and send the landlord two months of rent to get us past Christmas.
