Disney World Asks Guests Unable to Wear a Mask Over Mouth and Nose to Reschedule Visit for a Later Time

New wording on the Walt Disney World website mirrors new signage and new park-wide audio messaging in taking a firmer stance against improper face mask usage. Here’s a look at the updated wording, asking guests to reschedule their visit if they are not able to wear a face mask over their mouth and nose (h/t: Brooke Geiger McDonald)

As a reminder, Walt Disney World requires the use of a proper face mask by all guests 2 years old and over. What is a proper face mask? Here are the requirements:

All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:
  • Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material
  • Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free

At this time, based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings.

While we have found proper face mask usage at Disney World to be much higher than in typical activities within the community, Disney has held itself to a higher standard throughout the pandemic, even changing park rules as needed to fit the latest guidance from health officials. It’s good to see that they have stronger language against improper face mask usage, but we hope that they are able to further empower Cast Members to actually enforce the rules.

Interesting! I'm reminded of the Keys to the Kingdom tour we did some years ago, where our guide strongly emphasized that WDW's #1 concern is Safety. And since so many in the medical community see the wearing of masks as a BIG safety issue with Covid-19, this is consistent with what we were told on the tour.

Well, doesn't it make sense? If you can't follow the rules for the safety of all guests, then don't go to the parks right now. Wondering if this had anything to do with the parent who tried to get his daughter an exemption and Disney said no. Then the father went on social media.

It does make sense, but people think they NEED and deserve a trip to Disney right now so they want an exemption. My opinion - if you can’t handle a mask then you can’t handle the consequences if you get a bad case of COVID. Even low risk adults and children have had some serious cases that require hospitalization.
