I have a friend that is spending over a week in WDW with his kids & family & then taking 2 days to be alone. He asked me what there is to do alone there. DTD? Pleasure Island? I know it depends on the person, but what do people who travel alone there usually like to do? I'd sure like to give him some specific suggestions. (He's early 30's & has been to WDW at least 2x that I know of) Thank you.

Hi,

People who are doing a solo trip at WDW will do just the same things then all other people who are at WDW. I mean, they visit themeparks, ride attractions, see shows and parades, go to waterparks, go shopping, eating, etc. etc.
One of the nice things of being solo is that you decide what to do on your own. You don't have to discuss this with the group you are traveling with, because the only member of your group are just you.

Marcel.

You said your friend is going with kids and family then staying longer. What he could do is look around with the family and something they do not due and he wants to do he can do solo. One maybe things like Space Mountain or Tower of Terror. He may enjoy just staying at the pool. There are so many things to do. He may want to take a backstage tour. These are a couple of ideas.

I have taken many solo trips to WDW and enjoy doing different things each time. It really gives you a chance to do and see things at your own pace, either slow or fast.

Here's some of the stuff I've done solo:

* Thrill ride day - Hop from park to park and take in all the fast, big rides, using the Singles Line and Fast Pass to your advantage.

* Back Stage Tours - These are terrific. I once even had an Epcot tour to myself when nobody else showed up for the scheduled tour. A private tour for a regular price. Can't beat that.

* MVMCP and MNSSHP - You can wizz through these special events and still enjoy it.

* Gourmet Tour - If you aren't there during the Food and Wine Festival you can still plan your own gourmet tour (or maybe a junk food tour). Epcot is the perfect place for this.

* Resort Day - I often do this on check-out day. If I have time to kill before going to the airport I soak in my last chance to sit by the pool and catch some rays. It's a relaxing ending to the trip.

* Safari Day - AK is a great park if you take your time with it. I select one day to just stroll around and stop along the way, taking pictures.

* Sports Day - If anything is going on at WWoS this is a great thing to take in. They have baseball spring training games and other competitions held there. There's also Richard Petty's Driving school for the thrill seekers. Of course, golf, fishing and tennis (and much more). You can hike through the grounds of the Wilderness Lodge and Campground. Rent a bike or water craft.

* PI Club Hopping - I usually enjoy the Jazz Club, Adventurers Club and Comedy Warehouse most of all and can do these at my leisure. Sometimes I'll add a bit of DTD shopping too.

* A day off WDW property - I'll drive to Celebration, Cocoa Beach, another theme park, whatever. It's nice to see the world outside the "world".

I'm sure he'll have no problem entertaining himself for 2 days as long as he takes mental notes of all the things he sees along the way that his family isn't interested in.

I think one of the most appealing things for adults who are finally without their children is strolling around the World Showcase and taking in the entertainment, shops, drinks, & food. I know I thought WS was boring when I was a kid. We kids would have been pouting and shouting if my parents would have kept us there all day.

I would also want to spend more time at the Animal Kingdom exploring the wildlife trails (and actually getting a chance to read the info) and Conservation Station. I spent a good amount of time in the Tree of Life garden just taking in all the different animal carvings. Kids get bored with that sort of thing when they know there's a roller coaster calling nearby.

I'm also a big fan of exploring the resorts. LOVE Margie's suggestions -- that sounds like my kind of vacation! He might also want to see if there is a concert at the House of Blues while he's there. And don't forget the Marketplace and the Boardwalk. (I don't really care for Pleasure Island, personally.)

I think that most people would find that even after being there for a week with family, two days isn't enough to see/do all you want to see/do.

I had a late afternoon and evening alone at WDW when I was in Orlando for business in November. It was like "if you had 5 hours alone in WDW what would you do?". First, I went to MGM to ride RnR and ToT. Unfortunately, ToT was only partially open due to a rehab and the line was 60 minutes! I didn't want to waste my precious time in line, so I skipped it and just did RnR. Then I took the boat to Epcot and walked around the food & wine festival. Finished off with Illuminations. It was nice walking around and not have to worry about what anyone else was doing or wanted to do. I enjoyed it but did feel a little lonely, it was the first time I was alone there. It was a Sunday night, I got an AP rate at CBR, I had breakfast at the food court in the morning and then drove downtown for work. That was weird too, getting up in the morning at WDW and heading to work! I spent Monday night at the Radisson downtown, the people in the office were sure I would takeoff to WDW that night but I didn't. I'm not fond of I-4 and didn't want to drive it at night plus I didn't want to separate myself from my colleagues going out to dinner. They already thought I was a Disney nut! :p I was scheduled to fly home on Tuesday night but wrapped up work a little after noon. I thought about heading back to WDW but decided to catch an early flight home.

I have had 4 annual trips to WDW with my DH, and now he prefers to stay home. So NOW......I have also had 5 annual solo trips to WDW, all for 6 nights each time. I did all the main parks, and actually did EVERYTHING the same as I did as if my DH was with me. It didn't change, nor should it change.
However, I did do Spaceship Earth *MANY* times, when DH would have thought that it was stupid to do something multiple times. Ahhhhh........Freedom ! I had my meals in the kinds of places that we might have chosen, too.
