From Marie to Minnie...Our Paris and DLP adventure.. completed 7/10

As of right this moment I have not heard from Delta, Air France or Expedia who we booked with. I really don't think that I will get any type of satisfaction in any form. Delta stance was its all Air France is fault due to the strikes, and basically they are unreasonable in the demands and while we partner with them we don't agree and your lucky that you are getting on a plane at all and no we had to do all this extra work so no refund. Expedia put it on Delta, and Air France...and they basically washed their hands of the situation. The main issue that I have is that all of these companies knew about the strike and did nothing, even when I called and questioned it several times I was reassured that everything would be okay, and they were set to fly that day. Then I get a 30 hours notice and basically at this time you are at the mercy of the airline... I wanted to change my flight plans several weeks before... no can do or I could at an outrageous price. If everyone know that the strike is going on, they should not sell flights that more than likely are not going to happen, or at least some type of notice when booking should be available, that way you can make a informed decision.

I was under the impression that the strikes should be about over by this time...? Will they continue much longer?

Air traffic control and AF are not the same, sorry about the confusion.

You never know what is going to happen especially now the unions have won the vote from the AF board about the salary offer on the table, it is hard to predict.

With strikes you cannot make changes to your ticket free of charge till short before departure as they cannot tell in advance who is going on strike and who isnt. I believe from the cabin crew about 1/3 was on strike? And they usually try to keep the international flights as much as possible on the schedule. But as you experienced, no guarantees.

Op here... Finally... apologies to everyone, I have been dealing with contractors inside and outside of the house, twice they cut the cable lines... honestly...

So our last and final excursion, was also our big splurge for our anniversary and our last night in Paris before heading to DLP the next day. We decided on a dinner cruise. Our concierge set it up for us. Our cruise was through "Bateaux Parisian Cruises", on the 8:30pm cruise, it was a two and half hour cruise. We choose Premier Service, which was a table at the front of the boat, at the window, all of the seats at the front are at the window except for one large table in the center... which on our cruise was not seated so. Everything is included Champagne, Wine, appetizer, choice of starter, main dish, cheese and dessert. Cost 205.00 euro per person, so around 480.00 US for both of us. We did go back to the hotel and freshen up and get dressed up a bit for our special dinner. DH wore causal pants black and a blue long sleeve dress shirt and causal shoes, myself I went with black pants, and a really nice dressier shirt, and my black bobs. Then we rode the hop on hop off bus down to the area( the Eiffel Tower stop was the closest) , and walked around a bit and stop in a café and sat outside, and had a glass of wine and watched Paris go by it was a lovely evening. Then we walked over to the marina area, there are a lot of boats with different cruise types, once we checked in we were allowed to go aboard, and were seated and the champagne started flowing. Once everyone is on board, we cast off and headed down the river, It was an amazing view of the Eiffel tower from the water, there are so many landmarks that you float by it was just beautiful, we saw lots of people sitting along the river with picnic style baskets, just enjoying the evening. The service was amazing, on point all night. The food was stellar which I was surprised by as some of the reviews were not so nice. Maybe due to our choice of service, our meal was a bit different from other sections. The only thing that would warn you about it the stairs leading down to the restroom are really steep, and narrow, and dark. The restroom itself was clean and stocked and did have a attendant in it. There was a band, and the singer was not all that good, he tried singing in English which really was terrible, but when he sang in French it sounded much better. I will warn you that they are very free with the wine and champagne, so just keep that in mind. We did tip our server at the end of the meal it was not expected, the service was out standing. This was a great way to end our last night in Paris... next up... Disneyland Paris...

Our last morning in Paris we did sleep in a bit, we had some pastries that we had picked up the day before for breakfast our last morning and finishing packing up the room, we did call down to make sure what time check out was and got later check out time, just a extra hour. After the bellman picked up our luggage and took it down, Ezyshuttle picked us up on time, and away we went. Once out on the motorway I felt kinda sad to be leaving Paris, but out on the motorway once I saw the Disneyland Paris signs all that went away, I was ready to get our Disney on!!!

Arrival, Newport Bay Hotel - the hotel looks like the Yacht and Beach club hotels, the ground coming in were just beautiful and all the flowers were blooming. Our driver pulled up and helped us out with our luggage, but that was the only help we got with our luggage getting into the hotel. Be ready to have all your luggage scanned, and the wand used as you enter the hotel... If you leave the front of the hotel, this process happens every time, just so you know. We booked a Compass club room, there is a separate area for guest to check in, its on the left as you enter. Check in was easy, our room was ready, everything was explained to us, Compass club times, our dinning reservation were gone over and how it worked, fast passes, keys, maps... Our luggage did disappear for a bit but it was found and brought to the room. We got a corner room overlooking the lake it was just perfect. The room is very cute and we loved the décor. I will say that the room is quite small but for just the two of us it was plenty big enough, also we had planned in advance and put all the clothes that we would need in the roll on, so we did not have to open the bigger luggage. The bathroom only has one sink and the kind of hair dryer that you find on a cruise ship, so that was a bit challenging but nothing that we could not get around. We felt the room might have been smaller, but it was well equipped. We did spend some time just getting the room in shape, it was nice to have a frig, we put the cokes and bottled water that we had bought at Monoprix in Paris, and just unpacked what we needed. We had requested extra pillows, instead they brought up extra towels, then we had to call down again to housekeeping, finally I figured out what they are called in French, "Oreiller" which I completely slaughtered but finally the pillows arrived...YAY...

We headed out, walking around the lake was just beautiful, I will say that you can tell that they are overhauling everywhere. You can see where they are upgrading and replanting all the grounds around the lake. Security when entering the downtown Disney area they will scan all your bags, and use the wand ... We were starving and really our only choice was Rainforest or Planet Hollywood. We went with Planet Hollywood, and it was just like Planet Hollywood anywhere else. Really not much to say. Burgers and fries, were good, I will say that the food was hot, and not over salted.

After our late lunch we headed for the Parks... More to follow...

I'm going to pick up right where I left off.

So we were headed for Disneyland Park ( our Magic Kingdom in Orlando)- they were funneling all the guest, coming out of the Disney Village( Downtown Disney), back though security, Which was strange, as we had already been through security, and this was the only day we had to do this ( go back through security a second time). There were armed police or military standing around the perimeter where the train station and the bus drop off was. We asked a cast member directing guest was this normal and she said the strike's causes all this, and moved her arms in a sweeping motions. So back through security, they scan all bags entering the park and were using the wand on every person. As we walked down the path towards the entrance of the park ( and Disneyland hotel) it is absolutely just so beautiful the grounds, fountains, gazebo, and all the flowers were blooming the colors were so vibrant, and there was several types of flowers that I had not seen before. We spent about 30 to 45 minutes, looking around, and taking pictures. The under the hotel, scan the tickets, so we walked out onto main street, I got the same feeling I always get when I walk onto main street in the parks, excitement, wonder, and joy... The smell, the colors, and sounds, it was so familiar but different in that way that made me want to explore. We loved the Mary Poppins gazebo, in the center. Walking down main street there were lots of familiar spots, Casey but really they were sausage instead of our American style hot dogs, we never did get a chance to try one... Well we will have to put that back on our list.

We spent 2 days in this park and this is our overall thoughts, and a few tips.

With the rides some are in French and other in English.

I read a lot the park was very small. I will agree somewhat that it is smaller but the way its laid out it doesn't feel small nor did my feet think that it was small lots of steps I will say that there are not as many rides here compared to MK, but there is a lot to do and see, it really offers a lot.

The theming is really good in all the areas, you can tell where one story ends and another begins. Just looking at all the prop's they really bring you in and help tell the story.

We loved the pirates area in Adventureland, this is done so well, and the play area for the kids is really neat. I think that this was our favorite area. They have a cave area to walk through and if you are claustrophobic this might not be a good choice and/or if you have little ones that are afraid of the darkened area this might not be a good choice. Pirates ride itself - Yep the red head was there, and it was a really great ride. We did get to ride it twice while we were visiting.

In talking about the rides, there were lots of closures, that we were not expecting. Lots and Lots of refurbishment going on - some times a ride would be down in the morning to open later on in the day, or close early. There was really no way to tell, but in no way took away anything from our experience, or our enjoying the park. We just moved on to the next ride or whatever.

The dragon under the castle is really fun... and a must see.

As far as the wait times, at times they were comparable on rides like Peter Pan, Pirates, and other iconic rides, I was surprised at the wait times for "Small World" this was a very popular ride.

The parades were along the same lines as the ones at Magic Kingdom in Florida and Disneyland in California. The castle projection show was really good, and the fireworks are use as part of that show, but not any real stand alone fireworks like what we are use to at Magic Kingdom. I don't want to take away from the show in any manner, it was really worth seeing and very enjoyable and we would love to see it again.

Here's a tip for allergy or asthma folks. The smoking areas are not really adhered to, even as much as people smoking in line while waiting for a ride which caused a bit scene the poor cast member, trying to reason with a man telling him no smoking, and the man kept on smoking and arguing with her, being rude and blowing smoke in her face... so the next thing we knew, these men came out of no-where and escorted him out of line. I wanted to bring this up as I have asthma and allergies, just so your aware in case you need to be on the look out for this for yourself or family members.

I will talk about Walt Disney Studios Park, and dinning, and some interesting conversations with cast members, in some up coming post.

I copied that part about smoking in your post and say I'm very glad that the man was escorted out.

I understand that smoking is prevalent there and not always following the rules about smoking areas. This is my big concern. My family will try to avoid such areas, but when it comes to lines, it's very difficult to avoid and I'm quite surprised that the CM was treated that way but I'm glad it was dealt with appropriately. Regardless of what the man thought he had a right to do, he was very rude and disrespectful and no one should be treated that way just because she was asking him to follow the no smoking rule.

Good Morning all, I am up and have a ton of stuff to do today, but I decided to spend some time on my trip report and enjoy my coffee...:surfweb:

So with that I think I would like to discuss some interesting conversations that we had with different cast members.

On our second day, but it was our first full day. We headed down for breakfast at the Compass Club room. ( I will discuss dinning in another post). So once seated and full plates, we did arrive a bit after the main rush, so we had the most delightful cast members that spent some time talking with us. They were excited to ask us questions about Walt Disney world. One cast member said she wanted work for the cruise line but unfortunately her English was not as good as they require. They were telling us that since Disney took over, that things were rapidly changing. I'm nosey and ask what do you mean. She said like we are going through lots and lots of guest training, and learning how to deal with different scenarios or situations. Also lots of rules being enforced that were not enforced before. Both ladies said that they like the fact Disney had taken over, and that things were working much better and both had been given more hours, and been able to move up. She also said that they had what they needed to do the job, and that was really great as before they did not have what they needed most of the time. When they said Disney had taken over, I was puzzled, so later on I did remember reading something about a buy out and that Walt Disney Company was in full control of the park.

One morning when walking to the park we stop and we were looking around and taking some photos, and a cast member that was directing several other cast members along the path with replanting all the bed around the lake asked us if she could take a picture for us. Which was great, so she took a few, and since I love plants and flowers I did ask her some questions, on these flowers that were azalea's but were in clusters like pom poms and I had never seen this type before. She was a American/French and told us she had married a French man, and had been living the France for years, and was one of the horticulturist that had been recently brought in to help fix the landscaping, and the topiaries. She said that she loved a challenge and that she had about 10 years worth of projects, and that they were working on holiday and other surprises that would be upcoming. After talking with her ...while in the parks we did started to noticing areas that were being completely redone, topiaries that were still growing in we really noticed this around small world, you could see were several topiaries must have been removed, and other that were growing in.

While in the store at Newport Bay, we were talking to the cast member, and he was quite funny and really interested in Walt Disney in Orlando, and asked us lots and lots of questions and said his goal was to work there. I asked him about Disney being in control he said it was wonderful, that from the minute that they had control that thing started changing over night, and that was a good thing. He said that had been promoted and with that came a elevation in wages. His English was as good as ours, when I asked and he said that his grandmother was American and that she taught him and his brothers and sisters.

Overall - With Disney being in charge, I think that Disneyland Paris in on the up swing, and with the addition of Marvel, Star wars and Frozen lands it really will become a vacation destination, instead of just a day or two trip at the end of your Paris vacation.

That is good to hear! I hated how horrible so many of the other guests were, flagrantly disregarding the rules. I did see a handful of CMs correcting them, but it still needs work. I think as the CMs become more and more assertive, maybe the rest of the people will start to fall in line! (Though I had about 95% positive experiences with CMs, only a couple iffy ones.) I made sure to thank them every chance I got to let them know I acknowledged the work they did!

One funny interaction, I was chatting with a custodial CM (he commented on my shirt). And we both had noticed that Excaliber was missing (it returned a couple days after I left). And he pointed out a window display with the Aristocats, but there were only 2 of the kittens - some guest just walked in and stole the third kitten! So, when I asked "How on earth do you deal with all these rude guests every day?" He responded, straight faced, "Yoga"! It was pretty hilarious!

Casey but really they were sausage instead of our American style hot dogs, we never did get a chance to try one... Well we will have to put that back on our list.

They are regular hot dogs, they aren't sausages. I had one last month. The only difference was they give out dijon instead of yellow mustard and the ketchup is sweeter.

While I noticed more smoking than at WDW, it didn't seem anywhere near as bad as everyone warns it is on here, both in the parks and in Paris. Maybe we were just lucky, and it's good to be aware, but it may not be that bad.

Thank you. That's what I was hoping.

On our trips to WDW, I did notice some people smoking, but never in line. Once in a while, we would see them walking past us. I have such an aversion to smoking that I am much more aware of it than most people. I'm hoping it will not be overwhelming in DLP. It does seem like there is more complaints about it there. I guess living in a place where smoking is prohibited in almost all public places makes it more difficult to adjust.

It was more noticeable than normal everyday where I'm at (near Seattle) but like you said there's not many places you can smoke any more. And it seems like people here don't tend to finish their cigarette right outside a building as much as they used to. I'm not even sure the last time I smelled cigarette smoke was.

I'm in Canada and I believe a lot of public buildings have a requirement that smoking cannot be a certain distance from the main doors. I think that used to be just hospitals but now I see it in lots of places. I think it's a good direction and hopefully continues.

I think I just need to explain to my family as well that they will likely see much more smoking in DLP compared to the other places we've been. We just need to be aware so it's not a total culture shock.

I'm so grateful for all the trip reports. It's much easier to prepare when we read about other's experience.

OP here, today I thought I would tackle Walt Disney Studio's and Disney Village

On our second day we decided to head over to Walt Disney Studio park. After breakfast in the compass club room, we headed straight out, walking around the lake, through security at Disney village. It was very quite compared to the day before, and we only went through security once. Ticket turnstiles and we were in the park..

I have a bit of mixed reviews for this park. By no means should you miss it, and we did enjoy ourselves for our day in the park. For us it seems a bit disjointed... Like it doesn't have its own identity. Like bits and piece of other parks, added in all willy nilly. Toy story land was really cute but quite small for all the people jammed into it. Stroller parking was really
non-existent, people were just leaving them everywhere which add to the cramped feeling. We really wanted to check it out for what is in store at DHS in Florida coming up. I really hope that the area is much much larger than at DLP. Also no shade really to speak of. With this being a kids area, they really need to figure out a way to be able to get out of the sun. I did want to get something to take home to my Sweet little grandson, but I really did not notice a cart or inside store....We did see some things in other stores, but nothing that said Toy Story Land DLP. Theming is really great, and the toy soldiers parachute drop was a fun ride, they will tell you a number which coincides with a number on the ground that you need to find for your seat. A lot of people were not listening or paying attention which causes problems and wasted time. Our other favorite was Ratatouille ride... it was so cute and worth the wait around 55 minutes, and definitely worth seeing. There were a lot of ride closures, some that we were expecting, and several that we were not expecting, again lots of refurbishment going on in both parks. We saw most everything that was available and open, For us we spent from around 9:30am to between 7:30 to 8:00 pm, we did have dinner at " Chez Remy's" before heading out and back into Disneyland park, for the evening.

Overall I really can't give a through report as so much was closed for refurbishment. Overall it was a fun day.

Disney Village - reminded me of what Downtown Disney was like in the early years not the bar scene but just like they were trying to figure out what to do and where to go with it. A few stores, there is a World or Disney store and a Disney store, I will say they both had different merchandise. Several Restaurants, The Steakhouse, Rainforest, Planet Hollywood, Café' Mickeys, Annette's Diner, Billy Bobs wild west show and Billy Bob's saloon, King Ludwig's, along with Five guys, McDonalds, Starbucks, and a few others... Its quite a small area. You could see the potential, this area does need some love, and quite a bit of refurbishment.

On a side note there is some type of sports bar and the first night we thought about having a drink, when we walked by, It was really rowdy, and loud they were watching football what we call soccer here in U.S., everyone was having a good time, cheering, and jumping up and down. You could also tell that a lot of patrons were lets say feeling no pain, and the language was not what we would call Disney or family friendly. We did decide to skip it, due to the fact we were tired and really weren't up to that type of evening.

I agree about the Studios and Village. Studios had some fun rides and some well-themed areas, albeit very small areas. And other places that just didn't have that special Disney feeling.

It'll be interesting to see it in 5 yrs, after they invest the 2 billion euros into it! And I think they are also investing a lot into improving Disney Village. At one point there were even rumors about a fountain show in the lake around Hotel New York, Sequoia, Newport Bay, but that has gone quiet once they announced the Studios expansion.

I think the original contract for DLP with France specified 3 parks would get built. So there is still an area of land set aside for a third park. But it doesn't seem like any work or ideas have arisen from that! But maybe one day there will be a 3rd gate.

Thanks for the info on the 3 parks, that would really be wonderful a third gate. With the Studios expansion, I hope they give more of an identity to the park, and create more of a story through out the park... If they do build a third park, I wonder which avenue they will go.

While we were there we did notice a lot of work being done in and around the lake. They were placing buoys in the lake which reminded me of almost a water ski show course. DH even commented on if they were planning some type of water rentals, like those big swan you see on some of the lakes would be really fun, or the water cars like at Disney Springs.

I did not put this in the with the stuff that we learned from the cast members. Honestly I had forgotten about it. When we were having dinner at "The Steakhouse" at the Disney village, our server said that the Wild West Show/ Billy Bobs saloon and King Ludwig's would be closing and more things would be changing, and that the movie theater is closing or moving... I got a little bit lost in translation. That more American shops would be coming in the future.

Normally they have water rentals, they might have taken them out because of the work being done? But on the ramp at the balloon you can rent them normally

Thanks for the info, that makes sense. I don't remember seeing boats for rentals. The whole time we were there the Balloon was closed due how dang windy it was. I'm going to go through my pictures to see if I have any shot that show boats... That's the best thing about the Disney, there is always something new to discover...

OP here, I am going to finish this report... So I am going to move on to dinning, and discuss our experience.

We were on "Half Board Plus" dinning plan it was part of our package we stayed club level at Newport Bay. I will start with that and how it worked and worked for us. So with the our plan breakfast each morning was in the Compass Club Room, and overall it was very good, the interior was beautifully decorated, and there are 2 rooms, so plenty of seating, while we were there we did not have to wait for a table at any time. Everything was well done, and tasty. Only 2 little things we love crispy bacon and this was not a option and some American coffee would have been great. The machine said American coffee... I took a sip and it made my head zing... wow... I guess I'm not on that level of coffee drinking yet ..baby steps... As far as variety not a lot we did have breakfast 3 times and it was basically the same, one day there were crepes, instead of traditional pancakes, and they were really good, and they offered some type of topping, apple and then like a berry compote, sausage and bacon were both available. Lots of bread and pastries, yogurt, fruit and some salmon with the accompaniments . Then your basic scrambled eggs, potatoes, and some type of hot cereal. Plenty of juice options, as well as even soda( small cans). Overall we were very satisfied with everything that was offered. Most definitely will include this option on our next trip Disneyland Paris.

With the meal plan it included another sit down meal, I like the way you can choose your meal plans offerings on the menus or they just apply the dollar amount to the bill and you pay the rest.

The Steakhouse - it is located in the Disney Village - I will say that I was a bit worried, as after all the amazing food in Paris that it might be a let down... I was wrong.... the food and service was wonderful. DH had Steak and prawns, with mashed potatoes, I had prawns with mashed potatoes. Both were delicious, while the mashed potatoes are not American style, they were more smashed and dressed simply with herbs and a butter sauce, I really liked them, but DH was just okay with them. We also got amazing desserts DH went of course with something chocolaty, it was a layered ( 7 layers) cake with chocolate, caramel, chocolate sauce, with a orange cream on the side... I did get a bite and the flavors were right on point, and it was creamy, and moist, but not over sweet. I went with a berry cheesecake... Honestly it was the best cheesecake that I have ever eaten... Yes even better than in NYC... I loved that it was really creamy but not loose, the fruit in the cheesecake could be tasted and wasn't just like some jelly stuff. The wine was perfect, as I said before I just told each server what I liked and they never once missed the perfect choice for me. Our server was really on point, and did chat with us some at the end of the meal.

Chez Remy - It is located over in the studios - This restaurant interior is absolutely just amazing, it shrinks you down to Remy and friends size. No detail was left out...We did have dinner but it was early for us, even earlier by European standards. So really a very late lunch. I went with a salad for the appetizer, and its the first time I have ever had a poached egg on my salad.. It was very successful I very much enjoyed it very much. DH left his comfort zone and had the soup of the day, I believe it was some type of squash soup. He liked it and did taste it and it was not for me, I really am not a big squash person. DH and I both went with the Sea Bass, very well done all the way around, light and flaky, not overcooked or over sauced. For dessert - DH went with chocolate again no surprise there, I did not get a bite, he was guarding it... so I assume that it was very good... I went with the apple tart. really more of a round individual cake, in the spice or carrot cake family, I say this as to the texture of the cake and taste, with the apples beautifully arranged on top. It reminded me of fall. I will say that the cake was somewhat dry but with the cream and apples it was a good bit all round. Service was good, she was in training still of sorts, and a bit nervous. We were her first table on her own. We did praise her, once she got started the nerves went away and she got into the rhythm and did a good job.

Cape Cod - Is located inside the Newport Bay Hotel. - We choose this for our last night at a later time, so we could have dinner, finishing packing and get some sleep before our long journey home the next day. This is a seafood buffet, really more like a fish buffet at least the night we dined here. . As far as the salad selection, it was okay. Not the best but not the worst. Lots of pasta and a couple sauces so you can make your own. Not really any hot veggies to be found other than a green bean casserole style dish and that was it. On the carving station there was this giant fish, I really can't remember what it was called, but it was really delicious, well cooked and had a very firm texture. There was fried shrimp and fish, and some other broiled or baked fish offerings, one that sticks out was like a baked white fish, over a bed of rice potatoes, with a buttery herb cream sauce. That sauce would have tasted good on whatever you put it on. I think that there were some peel and eat shrimp over near the salad station. As far as dessert it was a complete fail, at least for us. The chocolate cake was so dried out DH said it would have made a good hockey puck. I tried what looked like a apple tart, but it was like the chocolate cake dried out and no flavor. Luckily we had some treats in our room. As the service went it was very good, really table service except for you had to get your own plate very attentive. Again the wine was very good. If you are not a big fish eater this might not be the best choice for you. The only items that we found that were not seafood, chicken strips on the kids buffet, some chicken in the Alfredo sauce, and a some type of beef, and that was it. I was surprised that there were no clam strips, crab legs or crab dish, no lobsters or langostino dishes, or clam chowder, the soup was potato and leek, while I did enjoy it, I did notice not many people trying it. While this was our least favorite meal, by no means was it a disaster.
Would we eat here again.. probably.

Snacks - we did all the typical snacks - pop corn, ice cream, some pastries, and macaroons... snacks are not included in the dinning plan.

Overall dinning was very good, along with service.. again dinning does take longer than here in the states, and you must ask for the bill.

Would we do the Half board plus plan? .... Yes

The breakfast you had is included in the Compass club, not in the meal plan. If you're not in the compass club, you'll get a different breakfast. If it's the free meal plan, it's a grab and go breakfast in the park.

And about asking for the bill, we just can't get used to the fact that you just get your bill in the states. Even while you're still eating! This feels really rude!

Yes as were staying club level that was the only option that we had for breakfast, they did not give us vouchers for breakfast at the quick serve in the park. the only voucher that they gave us was for our dinner in the evenings.

L'addition s'il vous plait - the bill please. Your right it does feel rude, and odd to be rushed through a meal... I miss those leisurely meals. I can not wait to go back...
