Ham hock

I have never made Ham and Bean soup and I have everything except for the Ham Hock, but I do have Pork Chops. Can I use those inplace of the Ham Hock?

Justapinch website has a recipe for Northern Beans with pork chops
Also my favorite recipe suggests adding sliced carrots. Helps kids to try this because they usually like carrots.

You won't get the depth of flavor with pork chops (bone-in, I assume?)

Ham hocks are fairly cheap at meat markets and you really get a great flavor out of them.

I am guessing OP was trying to avoid trip to grocery & trying to make do with supplies in kitchen, which is a good idea except a ham bone is cheaper and more flavorful.
Maybe quick trip to buy a box of Jiffy cornbread too!
