HHN 2020 - RIP & Behind the Screams/Unmasking the Horror

Planning a trip for the 30th anniversary of Halloween Horror nights - I have fond memories of the first year, figured I have to do this year! But things have changed ~ so:

Does the RIP tour include lots of scare zones with scareactors? Is the tour (probably public as we don't have that many travel buddies) something that you could tell the tour guide you can't handle jump scares and they'd accommodate you? (Kudos to Busch Gardens Howl-o-Scream which has some wonderful folks who will 'escort' you to ensure your safety.)

Also, what days are the behind the scenes-lights on haunted house tours? I'm hoping for something like Thursday to Tuesday, or Monday to Thursday. Currently our trip has us at US/HHN Friday to Tuesday. I've found schedules online but can't figure out the pattern.

I doubt you could even avoid the scare zones even if you did book a private tour.....they walk through several zones to get to the houses.

So, the answer would be no to be able to avoid them completely.

I have no idea on the tours, there are several here who have done them, so hopefully they`ll remember what days they were on....or maybe check last years schedule.

Behind the scenes is only on HHN Days so typically Wednesday through Sunday .

Never done the RIP tour, but I have been told the private ones are better.
Often people here have open slots on their private tours - so that is something to watch for as we get closer to HHN

I do one private hhn tour and two public hhn tours each season.

When I go solo, the public tours allows you to do each house and scare zone once and you see it all within 3.5-4 hours.
This works out nice to see the highlights of hhn.

Private tours can be set up by the person that books it for what you want to do at hhn.
(Holder of this booking can decide how you will do hhn until 2:00 am)
Some want to see a house multiple times, avoid the scare zones, more bar stops and breaks, etc

Tour cost varies based on date of your tours.
Public tours have a set rate for all and is cheaper than a private tour.

If you are a large group, you may have to split up for the public tour when you book it.

All tours last year were able to go to LaBamba for snacks, refreshments, desserts.

I think if you can handle the constant jump scares in the houses, you can handle the occasional jump scare in the zones. When we did a public RIP tour a few years ago, we went through each scare zone, but we didn't hang around very long. We had all houses, a show, and a couple of rides to all get front-of-the-line access to.

As said above, it is my understanding that the Unmasking tours are only held on HHN days (typically Wed/Thur - Sun). The last couple of years, we started the UtH tours, and we like to go one HHN night, then UtH tour before our last two nights of HHN. We like to experience the houses fresh, then we like to get the lights-on tour to see all the details we missed. Then a couple more nights in the dark. It works great for us. Good luck and have fun!

Perfect advice for a newbie or anyone going solo to hhn

I do the lights on day tours before I do my first night of hhn.

I like to know where to look when inside the house for the special items or special treats in advance.

This way when peeps talk about “did you see..”
I would feel sad that I missed it.

I feel like, aww man, I’m sorry I missed seeing that golden egg when I went thru the house last week.

when you do the paid lights on house day tour, your tongue will hang out...jk
When you do that house during the evening event, house is dark and you might miss it

This will be my 20th year for doing hhn

I do the lights on day tours before I do my first night of hhn.

I like to do at least one nigh before I do the daytime tour.
There are a lot of spoilers during the day time tour IMO.

its also cool to go through and see all the things you missed

that being said I did feel last year was not the same as previous years - when it came to the little details - but that is subjective

The only possible good thing if my 30 June trip is cancelled, is the potential of HHN in August.😉 I so want to go back.

Totally agree with you!

The last two years hhn fell flat for me in too many of the houses and scare zones.

Really hopeful this year is great.

Only 3 of the houses excite me at this point.
Maybe that will change when total info is released.

Thanks for posting!

I'm curious that Ghostbusters isn't included given that there movie is coming out and it seemed to be well received last year.
remember its rumors.
They did ghost busters last year - so not sure they would do it again - especially so soon.
I also think ghost busters has been delayed to 2021

I don't know how i feel about a Billie Eillish haunted house. i'm guessing they want to get the young millenials attention, also the Dungeon of Terror is pretty cool, where the whole HHN thing started . It looks like they haven't chosen a lead character or franchise yet , maybe they'l bring back Jack the Clown?

yeah - I figure its not for me.

I have heard this rumor a lot so maybe its true - anything else I wont put much stock in until Universal announces it - and even then who knows this year

I finally got around to watching ‘Us’. I understand the house a lot more now. More screaming may have been needed.😂

I see it as a waste of a house
Not a Billie fan

Plus 1...….sounds like pp is correct and they`re aiming for a younger, less discerning crowd. Too many fun houses.

I wish they`d go back to basics and remember it`s HORROR NIGHTS and supposed to be horror based...….I had to google who the heck she was!!! Guess I`m old.

I think a Billie Eilish house would be pretty cool. Was hoping if there was going to be a music themed house this year it would have been The Weeknd though, given the whole theming of his After Hours album that was released this year...
