We are doing Deluxe Dining and have a reservation for Hollywood and Vine, before Toy Story Land opens. Our reservation is for 8:00 and was wondering is this good to get in line first to ride TSMM? The characters are not a factor for us so has anyone else used this strategy as we were not able to get a fast past for it?

I'm not sure where they will "hold" you after breakfast, but assuming park opening that day is 9:00, you'll want to be out of the restaurant and asking how close you can get to TSM no later than 8:45. 8:30-40 would be even better.

Ask for your bill the moment you are seated and go ahead and pay so you can just get up and leave when you're done.

Yes, that's what we did. We were out of our 8am reservation by around 8:45. We were held just up the street from H&V and walked towards TSMM at 9. We weren't first in line, but only had a short wait (less than 10 min) before riding.
