How Can He Refuse an Unconscious Wife?

Background: In 2009 we took our first (and only) cruise--a 3-day DCL to celebrate our first son's high school graduation and our 20th wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful, magical vacation for the most part. The exception being a series of unfortunate events on Castaway Cay day. :(

That evening I found the documents for booking another cruise in the trash can of our stateroom. It seems my husband had visited the OBB desk and was planning to rebook when we got into an argument. That combined with the other events of the day caused him to dump the materials and forget the idea.

Here we are all happy!

Well, it was actually a wonderful trip and we still talk about it four years later.
Now our second son is set to graduate in 2014--and it will be our 25th anniversary! (DD graduates five years after that-our 30th anniversary-nice how we worked that, huh? :thumbsup2 )

So naturally, my thoughts have turned to another cruise. Now my husband loved our last one, and he'd love to take another one, but he has a hard time spending that much money. I knew if we did another cruise, I'd have to plan it and then tell him.

I discussed the idea with my two sisters and invited them to cruise too. We had a pow-wow and for about five minutes considered Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. But in the end we had to go with DCL. :wizard:

We settled on a July, 2014 date, and I made plans with my travel agent (she's awesome!)

It occurred to me that my husband would be more enchanted by the idea of another cruise if he read the trip report from our last one (except that little part about the argument :scratchin). Well I went to reread my trip report and found I had never finished it! :headache: So I fished out my old notebook and added the final touches to the TR. Plus I added a post script indicating that the only way to top the last cruise was to do another one.

2009 Trip report

On June 20, 2013 I was scheduled for shoulder surgery. He had a long wait at the hospital, so I strategically packed my laptop and had the browser opened up my old T.R. Just as he kissed me goodbye before I was put to sleep I told him to read it all. I think I was more nervous about him reading my scheme than having my arm cut open. But hey, I was unconscious and I knew I'd have the sympathy edge when I woke up! :charac2:

Stay tuned.....

June 20, 2013: So my brilliant plan to tell my husband about another cruise while I was under the knife only worked so-so. It took a few days before I was 'with it' :faint: When I was finally awake and able to ask him if he read the trip report his response was "yes". Well, either I had not clearly spelled out that I was planning another cruise or he was not opposed to it. I decided I'd go with the latter.

Side Note: SIGNS FROM GOD! Our 12-year old daughter has recently discovered James Bond movies so we watched Casino Royale. I was pleasantly surprised to find a major portion of the action happens in the Bahamas. Surely that's confirmation we should go there again? :goodvibes

June 25, 2013: I put down a deposit on a 4-night Bahamian cruise on the Disney Dream. It would be six months to the day that we would be able to surprise our kids--Christmas Day! :santa: Six months of keeping an awesome secret!! Last time I only had to hold it in for a month. Ugh, can I act cool and not give it away? :smokin:

June 26, 2013: Travel brochures arrived. My agent sent enough to pass out to family members.

June 27, 2013: End of year bonus at work: enough to cover deposit. :yay:

June 28, 2013: Family birthday party for our son. After the kids had drifted away to play, I gave both my sisters the extensive travel packets on DCL. After the party, when we were cleaning up together I took my husband aside and asked him if he understood why my sisters and I were so excited and I handed him the DCL brochure. His response, "have you already booked one?"

Ooops! I thought I had been crystal clear with my various hints. :rolleyes1 Anyway, his response was generally favorable--sort of, "well you did it, so I guess it has to be okay." :lovestruc We discussed how I came to different decisions and I told him about the Dream. So now he knows, he for sure knows and we can hold this secret together for a while.

Now I'm just waiting for the rest of my family to commit.

July 20, 2014: ONE YEAR from today. The good thing is, as of tomorrow, our trip is less than a year away...the bad thing is, it's still a loooong time.
I've been yakking :listen: all the time to my husband about this cruise, and I'm pretty sure I have him convinced to do onboard booking for a future sailing. :cool1:
