Prior to that 2014 while in England, bus and train was the way we got around.
Longest train trip was about 220 miles
Longest bus trip was about 550 miles

Public transit at home? Once 55 years ago when I was 5. I am a California native, if I can't drive the and park right in front of where I am going, I don't go.

Will be taking the train to Haywards Heath in half an hour. The journey takes about 10 minutes. It may not be the best in the world, but England does have a very comprehensive train network with very modern trains and fast connections. Pity it costs so much and frequently gets subject to delays

Took the White Pass train excursion in Skagway AK last June

We did this one in 2014 also. We pretty much only ever ride public transit on vacation; never here at home. We took trains all over on our trip to the Med last year - the most memorable rides being from Paris out to DLP and from Villefrance to Monte Carlo. It's just amazing how easy and efficient train travel is in Europe. We also took a bus tour from Naples to Pompeii.
