This may seem like a dumb question, we have a October UY, we jsut bought resale so we got the 2005 points coming to us, we bought at BCV.
We want to go to HH June 18-23 and then to BCV NEXT Oct 21-28, so should we use our 2005 points for HHI and then our 2006 points for next oct?
thanks
With an October use year:
2005 points can be used for trips Oct 1, 2005 - Sep 30, 2006 *
2006 points can be used for trips Oct 1, 2006 - Sep 30, 2007 *
* You can also bank 2005 points into 2006 but any 2005 banked points must be used by Sep 30, 2007 -- they cannot be rebanked.
So I would use 2005 points for the June 18-23 trip. Any points left over should be banked if you will not need them for any other trips before Sep 30, 2006.
When making your reservation for Oct 21, 2006, start by using those banked points first (since they cannot be rebanked and will expire Sep 30, 2007). Assuming your banked points will not entirely cover the Oct 2006 reservation, use 2006 points for the rest of the "cost" of the reservation.
Any 2006 points remaining can be used for any additional trips you make up to Sep 30, 2007. Any 2006 points you will not be using by that date you will want to bank.
Also, make sure you are aware of the banking deadlines for your points!
Edited to add: Given that your Oct '06 trip is at your home resort, I assume you will be booking that at the 11-month window, i.e., this November. So with the approach I'm suggesting, you will be banking your remaining 2005 points pretty early in your use year. If you later decide that you want to make another trip before Sep 30, 2006, you will have to borrow points from your 2006 use year. The alternative is to use 2006 points for your Oct '06 trip and wait until later in your use year to bank your remaining 2005 points just in case you might want to use some of them before Sep 30, 2006. But to me this seems risky -- 2005 points have a shorter lifetime than your 2006 points, so I would want to use up the 2005 points first for the trips I already know I am going to take.
