My DH really wants to try a Pink's hotdog ;) So here are the questions:

1) Is the food the same at both locations?
2) Is the Pink's at Knott's inside the park? If not can you tell me where it is located?
3) We'll be heading to Hollywood for a day; parking at Hollywood & Highland (to see the Disney Soda Fountain, Grauman's & Walk of Fame). How far would it be to the original Pink's?

TIA for any insight :)

NO!!...i mean the menu is similar but the food isnt good...

2) Is the Pink's at Knott's inside the park? If not can you tell me where it is located?

its right across the st. in the same market place with Mrs. Knotts chicken dinner, TGIF, and Cinnabon

3) We'll be heading to Hollywood for a day; parking at Hollywood & Highland (to see the Disney Soda Fountain, Grauman's & Walk of Fame). How far would it be to the original Pink's?

Graumans is on Hollywood Blvd right next to Highland...you just cross over Hollywood Blvd and go down about 3 blocks or so to Melrose where Pinks is at...

Ok, so Im gonna lay it on you:rotfl:...imo, and this is my opinion but many many people have the same feeling as I do on this...I realize as do many, that Pinks is an LA icon and is synonymous with all of what is Hollywood...BUT...it is not all that. In fact Id rather get a hotdog from a street vendor than buy from Pinks...1st of all...it is true that the line can wrap around the block and easily you can wait in line for 2 hours but the place is old as hades and besides the pictures on the walls of all the celebrities that have graced its presence, with all the money they have made, I cant believe they couldnt refurb it and bring in some more comfy and up to date tables and chairs..2nd..it is EXTREMELY expensive...2 hotdogs, fries, and a soda can set you back close to $30...but the worst part imo is the fact that waiting in that line and paying that kind of money for a mediocre hot dog is what blew my mind..I expected it to be amazing and it wasnt...I even went another time thinking that maybe it was just an off night but nope same same...Knotts Pinks is worse...I cant believe you can make a hot dog that bad but they found a way to do so...and their french fries were cold and greasy and gross....maybe if you just order plain or cheese hot dogs and a soda to split it might not be so bad and you can still say you went there...if its really REALLY important to go then by all means go but I just felt you need to know before you go.

Thanks for the info :) DH is determined to eat there :confused3 I told him I didn't think it would be all that but... I'll have him read your post, maybe 2 of us can convince him it just isn't worth it ;)

Pinks in Hollywood is well worth it.

Sorry, I know you want to convince your DH otherwise but their dogs are great and the service is crazy! So much fun even though the wait can be long. I love their dogs and gladly wait on line for them. Best in Los Angeles.

Word of warning - it’s three blocks but three city blocks and just about 2 miles away. It’s a long round trip walking and if the wait is 30/40 minutes...

We have a Universal day and are staying walking distance to Universal for a few nights. I understand universal city walk has a pinks too. Is there a big difference?

Thanks for the extra info :) DH is definately eating at Pink's, now we just need to find somewhere for me to eat ;) DH pulled out the Thomas Guide so he knows exactly where he's going. Is there parking near Pink's? Thanks again for the info!

As an L.A. native, I'm going to have to agree with this statement! I've never understood the hype around Pink's and have also eaten there more than a few times over the years, hoping to be finally be impressed. Nope! I just don't think they're anything special. My DBF, however, does enjoy them, for reasons unknown to me, haha.

Haven't tried the Knott's location, but the Universal one was just as 'meh' to me, but at least the interior/seating there is new & clean.

He's been warned ;)

I  the food truck idea!!! I think that will be my plan :thumbsup2

I have eaten hot dogs in NYC, Chicago, Baltimore (Zacks), Atlanta, New Orleans, Austin, the amazing dogs at Ben’s in D.C., Pete’s in Birmingham and even great dogs Cincinnati. The best in L.A. is Oki’s but I love Pink’s. One thing I have never done is not try a dog because someone else doesn’t like it. If I allowed others to turn me away from something they didn’t like I would have missed out on some amazing things.

On the other hand when people like something I try it. disneegirl4eva, where should I go for a great hot dog?

wdwmickey, yes, there’s parking at Pink’s. There is an Indian place just east on Melrose. Another block east is California Chicken Cafe which I really like. Just south is Cube Cafe.

lizabu, I can't put my finger on it but there is a big difference between the Pink's at Universal and the real Pink's.

Last time we were at Universal we ate at Pinks inside the park. So maybe consider doing that if Pinks is a MUST do.

Personally, we all thought it was ok. It wasn't bad, but I was really expecting something AH-MAZING & sadly, it fell short. :(
