The Journeys of Lil Medic

That's quite a set up under the easy up. Do you always set all of that up or is it special because you are staying put for awhile with friends?

I ask only because people's set up rituals are interesting to me. About the only thing I set up is the blackstone, but we are usually weekend warrior to the max, only a few days at a campground before moving on. We're the same way on vacation too. Our upcoming FW trip will be the longest we've ever stayed in one spot in the camper.

This easy up is a new one for us, only set it up twice, takes about fifteen minutes to get the bigger canopy lined up so I can secure to the frame. Also has remote controlled LED lighting built into the canopy arms.

Went for a little drive today to check out another area campground, looked like a nice campground with plenty of shade. Lots of seasonal sand only about 8 regular campsites, some where small and the others would be tight getting into.

My friend leaves out tomorrow, he has to be back at work for Monday. Helped him get his car on his dolly then made some dinner. Just had a little passing shower go through and now I’m sitting outside listening to the river flow.

May run up the road tomorrow and see if I can win some money at the casino playing blackjack.

Wow, haven’t been camping since May. :faint: Well we are camping now. Headed out after work today at 2:00 and pulled into CampTin Box in North Hudson NY. at 4:30. We would have been here earlier but a thunderstorm last night washed out a culvert on the only road that is between use and the next town over. The only 2 ways to get around is 1) through Canada, but the boarder is still closed or 2) drive an 1 1/2 to get to what would have only taken 15 minutes.
So we compromised and drove 40 minutes and took the ferry.

Got camp set up and dinner made, clam chowder soup. ’lil medic is inside watching tv while DW works on her next book and I am sitting outside listening to the rain on the ez-up making this post then heading to bed, been up since 3:00 this morning to be to work at 4.

Pics to come in the morning. Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July.

Well it’s going to be a rainy day here at camp. We are right on the back edge of a system this stalled out, the weekend doesn’t look any better. I hope it moves out so we can get to The Great Escape six flags park tomorrow.

Camp Tin Box use to be Jelly Stone Campground and changed hands last year. It is a nice sized campground with plenty to do for young ones.

Here is a sign up at the check in station, I especially like number 5, should be number 1 though.

The site is on a good incline, had to use the 6 x6’s in the front, the rear jacks are hardly lifted. Side to side wasn’t bad.
Internet is a little wonky so will post more as the day progresses.

Well haven’t posted here since July, so here we go.

Just got back from visiting my parents in Destin Fl. My dad is not doing to bad, ( not to good either ), after being moved into a nursing home in Fort Walton. My mom seems to be doing alright with being by herself. She has her days, falling and ending up at the hospital then rehab until she gets better. It’s a hard decision to make to move down there to be closer to them but my sister is in the area and says she can handle it.

Our trip to Destin was everything we knew it would be, cold but enjoyable. Just look at that smile.

We went to the HarborWalk, its the off season so not very crowded.

We did get a few smiles out of lil medic though.

We took a walk on the nice white beach and enjoyed the fresh air.

Lil medic was disappointed with the lack of shells though.

After a few days in Destin and visiting it was time to head over to our favorite place in Fl.

Yes we made it to the Fort on Sunday morning at 5:50 in the morning and got checked in. We sat in the parking lot until about 11 when we got our text saying our site was ready. ( no site or setup pics this trip )

The pool was not busy and but the water was fantastic. Spent more time in the pool than the hot tub.

Monday we made a trip over to Cocoa for the day for walking on the beach and shopping for lil medics birthday, 15 yrs. old this week. She did a lot better at shelling and filled her bag with all kinds of beautiful shells to add to her collection.

Next it was spending time at the Fort and meeting new people. She did the Tie Dye at the bike barn and did some gem mining also. She was still feeling pretty down, didn‘t want to get out and do much on her own. So I was thinking to myself what could I do to put a smile on my kids face. Then it came to me, you cant be at the Fort without a golf cart, so with a quick call to the reservation line a golf cart was reserved. When we made it up to the Outpost 10 minutes later they had our paper work and our kid had a smile on her face. I would say job well done!

The rest of the trip was uneventful and we left out Friday morning and got home early Sunday morning.

Not as many pics this trip but will make up for it in the year.

I have to chuckle at this, @snowmedic.

Although I was born in Ohio, I've lived in the south for 40+ years. I don't go swimming unless the air temp is consistently over 80F for consecutive days.

But you are made of heartier stuff (being from Vermont) so the temps during our week at the Fort probably felt good for you and with the heated pool the water probably felt great.

It was a pleasure to see you and the family again. Let's not go that long until it happens next time. :thumbsup2

Bama Ed

PS - I tell folks when I was a Yankee I used to have thick strong blood. But living in the south I think it's been watered down. Can't stand the cold much anymore. :cold:

We are on our third of seven trips for the year. I have been busy this spring working on a new city pool project that I got wrapped up this past Thursday. DW had her 3rd book signing Saturday and now we are relaxing for awhile. Oh, I forgot to say where

Although we are not staying at the Fort, (car was to packed to bring all the camping supplies,) we are staying at the Orlando/Kissimmee KOA.

We left VT. Thursday morning and drove all day and night and made it to Cocoa Beach at 7 Friday morning. We walked along the beach until about 10 and then made our way over to the Springs for some drinks. At about 2 it was time to make our way to the hotel in Tampa.
DW had her signing Saturday then dinner with the other authors and Sunday we got up and went to Venice Beach and did some shark tooth hunting. Lil medic found 1. From there we headed over to Orlando and stopped at the Springs again so Lil medic could get one of her Build A Bears restuffed at T-Rex. From there we made our way to the Koa and went swimming and grocery shopping.

We will be here until Wednesday when we head out to Destin to see my parents and then head back home on Friday.

the KOA cabin looks nice. I am from Swanton, went by Hardack while on the interstate today saw the slide for the pool! that is going to be a great facility when finished. do you know when the pool is opening? Have a wonderful vacation!

My boys love staying at that KOA with the trailer! My parents and I moved to Venice in 1989 (started my high school junior year there) and they still live there. Sharks tooth hunting used to be MUCH better back before beach re-nourishment projects back in the 2000-2010 timeframe… we have the containers of GOOD and large unbroken teeth to prove it! Anyway, cool that you were there… enjoy the rest of that trip!

Ahh the teen years....when the moods swing so fast its hard to know when to try to cheer them up or duck. Aging parents are the hardest, even if you just a an hour away vs over a thousand miles. I wish all the best for them and your family as you work out what to do. I hope the visit goes well.

We leave for WDW in 10 days. This time staying in at AKL Kidani Village on our DVC.
