Thinking of a solo trip, hotel recommendations

What do you think would be a good onsite hotel for a single woman traveling solo?

I've wanted to try a mod and would be willing but those exterior corridors really bother me. Sorry, not trying to sound alarmed, I am sure it's very safe just don't want to risk it. Any comments about that?

I am thinking BWI might be a good option. One reason I want to go alone is that I have never gotten to try any of the thrillers at Epcot or MGM. GF is another place I'd like to try but I feel guilty spending that kind of money on just me ... AKL is another option though it's not new to me and I wanted to try something new.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated!

ETA: Couldn't get a deluxe for my dates so I have booked POFQ and am mulling it over. Anyone have an opinion about it as an option for a solo traveler, a relatively timid inexperienced one?

The POFQ is where I was planning on staying for my first solo trip. I liked the idea of the smaller resort. Not too far of a walk to any place. I also just plain like the resort. We stayed at POR last December and walked over to the FQ. It is really pretty there. Busier than I had thought, but for a solo trip that is a good thing. Lots of people walking around makes me feel safer than walking alone.

I don't recall seeing dates for your travel but have you considered renting DVC points for a studio? I did last year for BWV and had a great time. I would tell you to look into renting DVC points for Epcot area first, BW or BCV as you really want to hang out at Epcot/MGM. This is the perfect location with easy access and nightly entertainment. I still dream of my week sitting out on my courtyard balcony watching the entertainers on the BW - nothing else like it. OKW, SSR are also good in that there is easy access to DTD (boating or walking).

As for the mods, FQ and PORS are both wonderful. I stayed solo 8 days at PORS in Magnolia Bend mansions and loved every minute of it. I was so tired and hungry one night that I order pizza room service and they verified when I ordered that I was solo and when pizza was delivered, two people delivered it (one man, one woman so I believe it was done for security purposes). There was one time that I felt a little weird but I was standing at the last bus stop behind the hotel and was by myself for 20 minutes before my bus arrived (going to Epcot to see fireworks around 8 pm). I could hear things in the woods behind me (squirrels and bunny rabbits) but it was a little creepy. A few grounds CM passed me on their way around the resort and honked their horns and waved which made me feel a little better but it was enough to make me realize that if I left at night, I would catch the main bus out front as there was always some there. Both FQ and PORS are wonderful resort with garden and architectual theming. There is also great access to DTD via boat which is a great trip.

I would also suggest Coronado Springs. I love PO but CSR is my new favorite. The resort is beautiful (moreso IMHO than PO). The rooms may have a slightly funky/funny look to them but I did feel like I was on vacation staying there (the feeling that you truly did leave and go someplace else). Additionally, the resort is the closest moderate to a deluxe in that you can workout in a facility there and order most things from their menu for room service. The pool, slide, hot tub and bar are wonderful as well. I also must admit that I don't like the Mexican theming and didn't think I would like the rooms but I learned differently. IMO the beds are the best here (really high thick mattresses). Not to mention that although the food court is set up differently, the choices are better even though it is a bit pricier (I prefer having choices over usually hamburger, chicken you get in the parks). I was really surprised and impressed with my stay and couldn't have enjoyed it more than I did. I'll be going back here in the future.

Either way, have a great solo trip.

When I traveled solo before I joined DVC, I always stayed at moderates, specifically at POR. The exterior corridor thing never bothered me, but what did was the one time I was assigned a first floor room. I even tried it, but after about an hour, I went back and changed to upper floor. Then I felt fine. Actually, exterior corridors felt fine to me, as long as the part of the building I was in didn't face a secluded area.

I agree with Simba's Mom, haveing an outside corridor isn't so bad as long as you're not facing a secluded area. You might want to share your soncerns with CRO and ask about rooms that face popular areas (like a pool).

I am a huge fan on CSR, such a beautiful resort, so relaxing. This is a conference resort as well, so there are lots of business people walking around. Get a room in the Casitas section near El Centro.

Good luck making your decision, I think a lot of people feel like you do when traveling solo. Enjoy yourself!

Sorry I didn't read where you are from. I am American and have never felt frightened at any of the resorts I have stayed at...but have only stayed at CSR, POFQ and Pop.

CSR is huge and I would not have liked to walk around it at any time of day!

POFQ is really nice and small with nice sidewalks. Mom and I actually went to the hot tub at 2am.

Pop was just plain fun!

I will admit...I love the idea of planning a solo trip and totally indulging myself in the GF. I suppose it depends on how much money you have to spend and what you want to do. I think if I stayed at the GF I would have afternoon tea every day....go to the spa....read a book in the lobby. I guess what I am saying...if I was paying for something like the AKL or GF I would plan on shorter days in the parks and more just soaking up atmosphere in the resort!

I hope to hear where you have decided! As I start saving for that GF treat!

As my sig shows, I've been at a few Mods and one Value, once solo, and have never felt vulnerable at any of them, including CSR. I agree that a room facing more secluded areas would make me uncomfortable, though. When the CM's at ASMu realized I was a solo, they poked around in the system to get me a room right away rather than wait 3 hours for regular check-in, a nice touch. I'm sure that they would try to accommodate you if the room's location made you nervous.

I have stayed at mods solo a couple of times. I have always felt very safe there, even with the exterior doors. I've even felt comfortable walking from the main building at the POFQ to my room at 2:00 a.m. after an evening at Jellyrolls. Building 4 is the closest to the food court and the bus stop, so I recommend trying to get a room there.

If you are going back to your room late and the evening, and are uncomfortable, you could request an escort to your room, and they'd be happy to oblige.

I stayed at AKL when I went solo - I think it's the best place to be solo! Plenty of spots to lounge, view and read. Lots of CMs around to answer questions, chat, educate. You can immerse yourself in the theme!

I dream of having a solo stay at AKL - there's so much detail there that I want to be alone to soak it all in sometime! However, my children would feel completely betrayed if I stayed there without them, so it will have to wait a little while. Gives me something (else) to look forward to in the future!!

My daughter was a little troubled as well, but I just put it on the 'next place to stay' list. It's a tough resort if you have allergies though. If I stayed there again I'd do two days there and the rest of the stay at another favorite.

Hi!

I highly recommend POFQ, since is a small resort and the buildings are close together. All of the paths are well lit, and you won't be wandering around the grounds to get to your room.

Definitely get a top floor room (always a safer bet in a hotel, from a safety and anti-burglary standpoint, no matter if you stay alone or with someone!). I would also recommend a room close to the main lobby.

You might also like the Contemporary, since it is a compact hotel that doesn't really have separate buildings (unlike other deluxe hotels such as the Poly). Hope that helps! :flower:

You could also look into the Downtown Resorts where the rooms do not have an outside door.

When I travel solo and remember to do so, I make room reservations for 2 adults so if anyone has access to my reservations, it looks like there is a couple in the room.

My first solo trip last August, I stayed at CSR. Had an upper floor room in the Rancheos or whatever it's called - seemed like my room was furthest from the Main building. I never felt unsafe at anytime walking around the resort and I had a midnight arrival and a 5am departure.

My nephew and I stayed at PO-FQ last July and we thought it was great! We stayed in building 5. Less than 5 min walk to the food court, less than a minute to the pool/laundry/hot tub. I would stay there again on my next solo trip if it weren't for the great discount I'm getting for the Swan/Dolphin.
