What do you think of when you hear "Oakland California"?

I don't remember much about Oakland (I was 5 when I last was there in 1966), but Oakland's school board doesn't look very good. They are the ones who decided ebonics was a language and recently brought in groups to lecture against the possible war in Iraq into all high schools.

I heard once, and now I don't even remember where, something about Oakland and gangs so now that's what I think of. I'm sure there are a lot of great things about it though and I'm sorry that's the only thing that comes to mind.
